In zoos, wildlife rehabilitation and falconry, birds beaks must routinely be trimmed and sharpened. This is called coping. The beak is made out of the same chemical compound as fingernails and the birds feel no pain from this necessary routine procedure.

Generally, wild birds dont need their beak to be trimmed as they forage and hunt but when a bird is in captivity then the beak may not wear down like normal, and will need to be trimmed to allow the bird to continue to use its beak. For pet birds, most use Cuttlefish bones to help the beak wear down on its own, but for predatory species I dont really know what you would use.

I love birds of prey. My favorite bird particular is the Peregrine Falcon. I saved a castral Falcon that was dehydrated and weak. That was one of the best moments in my life. Is absolutely amazing how the bald is so calm.

We need to remember that this creature is now technically domestic even if still wild by Nature, so it doesn't experience its usual rites like the natural wear to its beak and other normal things it experiences during its daily life in the wild. Captive exotic animals require special treatments to account for things that are natural in the wild, and they of course Will suffer certain issues as a result. And even do i understand this, that's freedom You are using sandpaper on, careful with the beak our you'll be hearing from at least a dozen american shotguns in your area.

Even without reading the video description it should be obvious that this is a captive bird. Pet birds also require this. Ask yourself, "why would someone do this to wild birds capable of coping their own beaks?" The handlers are simulating what would naturally happen since the bird is incapable of taking care of itself properly in captivity.

@MZRFaith Not all of their abilities, but if this bird wasn't injured, didn't have a disability, didn't become lazy, etc. it'd probably be able to cope it's own beak with provided trees & rocks in the enclosure. Something is up. On the other hand, pet birds also need humans to help them with this. Eventually even ones sadly captured from the wild and sold into the pet trade. The reason I posted this is because there's a lot of people in the comments that think this is a wild and not a captive eagle. Some are irate about humans helping this bird. I think another part of this is people don't know this is a necessary thing birds need. Done on their own, or with human help. Now, I don't know if this is a wildlife rescue group (I hope). There are other vids of falconry here with smaller raptors.

If it doesnt need to do something when in the company of humans it wont do it and thats why there are signs saying dont feed the wild alligators because they will stop hunting and see people as a source and one day someones not gonna feed it and the food source will become the food
