Will the New Haybine Work? Cutting/Raking/Wrapping Hay Continues

We're dodging rain showers to get our next field of hay baled and wrapped. Alan uses the 820 John Deere and the new-to-us New Holland 489 Haybine to cut. Will it work? The hay got raked and was ready to be rolled up with the New Holland 853 Round Baler behind the International 1256. Lastly, the hay needs to be wrapped up. Some of the hay was on river bottom ground that has a pond between it and the farm, so the Case 530 is needed to load the round bales up. To do that, we use an Anderson RB 200 Individual Bale Wrapper. The Case 830 spins the bales while plastic gets layered on each bale to seal them and allow them to ferment. Wrapping hay like this is a great way to preserve hay to keep it from molding, heating, and burning.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

The man who does my mechanic work who worked at our local NH dealer for 15 years. He told me the 489 has one weakness, if that roller chain in there goes bad it will ruin the wobble box. He has one and replaces that chain regularly to prevent that.

Kinda nice hearing Alan using familiar terms. Farmers all over refer to their smaller fields as a piece. I got a piece of this here and another piece of that over there.

Ah! This one warmed my heart. Love seeing all of the neighborhood kids having a ball out in the field where the work of the nation is being accomplished. Justin, you're doing a fantastic job. I'm sure you're a real encouragement to your parents. The hay looks beautiful. I'm taking a refresher course in patience as I wait for a weather window to finish up second crop which is now getting a bit ripe. We are in a pattern of every-other-day rain. About 3"/wk. Oh well, I'm getting many little jobs done around the shop as I wait. God is blessing all of us richly. Keep up the good work! Keith-

Hi Alan and family, I had a similar issue with my haybine once, both top and bottom rollers must run in time with each other, when I ran into real thick hay one roller would slow and make a banging noise, turns out one of the keys fell out of the keyway on the bottom roller. It is hard to see and maybe a 50 cent part. My machine was an older version of yours. Take care👍🇨🇦🚜❤️

I said to the wife that you were going to buy that 489, and I was right! I was as happy as you were ! I love the old haybines! I started on a 467, I believe it was a 7ft cut, traded it for a 469, 9ft! Run it with a 620 JD, and a 770 Oliver diesel! Loved both tractors! I'v run into a lot of things cutting hay, even naked people, finally they had nowhere to hide and they were about 8 streakers going across the hay field!🤣! Wait until you get a skunk caught in the rollers and have to pry it out!🤣! Justin, you the man! I was helping my Dad running equipment at your age!

I had a 469 and never seen another one. Bought it about 15 miles away, used it for 15 years and only changed the sickle. Granted only cut 40 acres a year.
@strong40
@strong40 Ай бұрын
I grew up with a 489. I remember replacing the wobble box more than once. The pan that the guards bolt on to was also bent since the machine was new and would bind the sickle bar. It was a struggle many years. A discbine is a big improvement but you'll likely need a bigger tractor than that John Deere

I know all about that belt. After 4 years of dry summers. 18-21. I had a terrible time cutting the first field in 22. Finally occurred to me that the belt was loose. My adjustment is getting short. I should probably get a spare belt.

Another good video, Alan! Noticed you kept a bale on your 3-point for a counterbalance when loading bales on the wagon. Always enjoy your videos (although, at one point there I was seein' a lot more "green" than "red." But that is a sweet little (and no doubt economical) Johnny. Why use "more tractor" than the job requires? Also: Farm Kidz! Ain't they GREAT? If all that energy can be properly "channeled" and encouraged, our Nation has reason to hope. God bless America (as, no doubt He has in the past)! btw, still no Thank$ option.....

Always nice to have enough feed for the cattle or any other livestock that we as farmers keep. Sure sometimes the feed can get a little mature then we like for the dairy cattle but at least second crop will be a little younger. I can remember one year we had the weather was rainy and first crop was a little maturer then we liked but strange thing was the cattle milked very well with that feed. Awesome video always cool to see older equipment still being used. Sometimes I wish companies still made equipment like that.

Those 489 haybines extremely popular machine. We use a John Deere 1209 and we are the oddity. Good to know about the belt, Our John Deere also has a belt that runs the reel, it seems like ours is easier to get at. Good see your 530 in action, our 630 was cheering it on!! Great video, wish I could smell the hay. Looks like the kids are having fun. The fawn story made me remember. We were in a doctors parking lot last year almost in the middle of where Lansing and East Lansing meet and two young deer (still had their spots) came out of the trees at the edge of the parking lot and started drinking water out of a puddle close to the edge of the pavement. Almost couldn't believe it. Got pictures too. Hope you didn't find the fawn. Thanks for showing them hauling the hay. Justin just keeps getting more experience all of the time and learning well how to measure with his eyes.

Try a piece of window screen in front of your radiator. You can just blow the stuff off, and it doesn't get stuck in the radiator. You just have to do it more often, but you stay on top of maintenance. Great video!

How many wraps you put on a bale? Tried to count but got a bit lost. That little jd is an amazing little tool, she has to be the hardest working one left in the world, she’s well able for that haybine even with the good conditioner rollers and they take a bit of driving. Regards from Ireland you guys are getting way better weather than we are our stuff has stopped growing it’s that cold and harsh.
