I travelled from Vienna to Košice aboard the IC 45 InterCity train, connecting Vienna, the capital of Austria, with eastern Slovakia. The IC 45 is a classic loco hauled service, operated by ZSSK - Železníčná spoločnosť Slovensko / Railway Company Slovakia..

I know this might sound a bit peculiar Pete but as I’m 74 you’ll understand, on a long journey like this I wouldn’t mind having a day coach, one like a sleeper but for daytime use so I could stretch out plus they wouldn’t have to provide breakfasts so the attendants would not be overwhelmed as they would on the proper sleeper

Excellent video, Pete! Beautiful scenery; I'm happy for you that the weather was so cooperative. I also like the Vectrons, but thank you for highlighting the class 240 (and 340). The style is *SO* '60s! Not a good period in political history, but wonderful and unique design by Škoda.

Nice video! Slovakia is such a beautiful country and so much underrated in Western Europe 😍 The only thing I don´t like in Slovakia is that many trains have only facing seats in second class.

Thank you :-) Yes, it is! You're right, many trains in Slovakia have facing seats, only Bmpz 2nd class coaches (operated mostly on international services) have airline style seats.

Díky moc! To ano, ono to bylo celkem složité zkombinovat aby se to dalo zvládnout s návratem bez nutnosti ubytování, proto asi ještě nikdo nenatočil celou trasu :-D

The road bed is in good shape with good ballast and concrete ties over flat terrain. I'm surprised maximum speed isn't 125 mph or higher.

In the future, some lines in Slovakia will be modified for a speed of 125 mph (this is also a reason is why the carrier also purchased new Vectron locomotives for a speed of 125 mph). But probably after 2025, when the new European Train Control System (ETCS) begins to operate.

Celkem ano, přijde mi že tato starší série vozů z Vrútek (Ampeer/Bmpeer) je pohodlnější než nové Ampz/Bmpz co jezdí na EuroCity.

I think only some meals are prepared on board, depends on each food.

Such are Central European catering services: much better than the (costly) packaged industrial food you find at DB, SNCF etc.

I don't wanna be a prick, but I didn't get the reason of serving Bratislava main station. The target is connecting Vienna and some regions of Slovakia, but Bratislava - there are regional expresses each hour twice (from Petržalka and main station on different routes). If the train continues from BA Nové mesto to Košice, the time saving would be about 40 minutes. The coaches are the 1st batch (because InterCity train, the EU funded new ones are not allowed - the train operates as competitive service), anyway I like those a bit more. I am curious, if the Bdghmeer 28-70 coach is weither rattling or not (😁) 2nd, how much time takes a ride from Vienna to Košice via Budapest (railjet + EC Hornád)? Well made video as always.👍

Thanks so much! Yes, a round trip around Bratislava and a long stop at Bratislava hlavná stanica only increases the journey time. I think in total the journey time via Budapest is very similar (plus the transfer time): Railjet Express Wien Hbf - Budapest Keleti 2h39m, EC Hornád Budapest Keleti - Košice 3h38m.

Most people use this train on the route Bratislava - Kosice, that's why it stops there. Vienna is just a small bonus.

Are you satisfied with the services of JLV? Is it better Than Utasellátó which is a Hungarian railway catering company?

On this train there was the service provided by Wagon Slovakia. JLV operates only Slovakian bistro carriages on EC Slovenska strela. As for the comparison, I’ve never tried Utaselato service, because lastly I traveled on EC Báthory and unfortunately my train missed dining car.. but I plan to try EC Hungaria, so I’ll visit the dining car 😊

Díky za zhlédnutí! Já jsem spíše zvědav, jestli je Vrútky stihnout dát dohromady v dostatečném počtu, aby se stihl plánovaný prosincový termín, už jednou se to odkládalo.. další věcí je jak budou zvládat ty přepřahy, protože zatím mají jednu laminátku, jednoho šestikoláka a jednu 754. Ale každopádně to bude zvýšení komfortu na té trase.

@@Lkprak No koupili těch vozů 18, tak i kdyby z toho zkompletovali třeba 8, tak mají jeden pár po 4 vozech.. jde o to jestli stihnou do toho prosince vyjet, údajně by měly ještě před ostrým provozem proběhnout nějaké zkušební jízdy, tak se necháme překvapit.

2nd class was almost full already from Vienna. 1st class was more occupied from Bratislava, about 20 passengers. After we left Bratislava, I moved to the other half of the car, where there were fewer people.

Hello Sam. I use the default subtitle size. The size of the subtitles is optimized so that it is possible to watch videos on mobile devices as well (according to the analysis, I have the largest number of views right through mobile devices). Otherwise, I try so that the subtitles cover as few views as possible, if I cover more somewhere, it is due to, for example because of graffiti, etc.

@@PeteBrandy v pohode, kedže som pendler medzi Bratislavou a Košicami a zásedne cestupjem iba v tomto type vozňa tak ho poznám aj za tmy........samozrejme skvelá tvorba a videá :)
