Hello Ken! We ended up visiting Hakuba last may, we were nearby following Nakasendo, and we really wanted to see Japanese Alps so we kidna picked up spot on map, and it was Hakuba. But we had no idea is so popular, when we were there in may, it was very quiet and not much people around. We unfortunately did not have time to climb up mountain path, and ended up regretting that we did not stay longer but we already had next hotel booked etc. But seeing this video made us decide to go back there during our next trip next year :)

Hello! Oh wow! You have a really good sense to picked up Hakuba as a place to see Japan Alps. It's not easy to see as it seems on the map, and the mountain shape look so beautiful from Hakuba town. May must be the best season to see the snow capped mountains with fresh green. I hope you can enjoy the gondola ride. There is one in Happo-One and another one in Hakuba Iwatake:)

Hello Kenchan. My family (12 adults & 4 kids) are visiting Japan at the end of May 2024. We have enjoyed watching your wonderful videos and have found them very helpful! We plan to leave the Nishi-Nippori area of Tokyo and travel to Omachi where we have hotel reservations for 1 night before we begin the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine route the following morning. We plan to take the Hokuriku-Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano then go to Omachi. What route do you recommend to travel from Nagano to Omachi, through Hakuba or Matsumoto? We plan to leave Tokyo in the morning and we hope to have a few hours to sightsee and have lunch on our way to Omachi. What city do you recommend we spend the time, Nagano, Hakuba or Matsumoto? Looking forward to watching more of your beautiful and informative videos in 2024. Wishing you a very Happy New Year! Lynn & Miiko

Hello Lynn san Miiko san, thank you for your message. I personally recommend to visit Zenkoji temple in Nagano city after you get off Shinkansen, and take direct bus to Omachi from Nagano station. If you have one night in Omachi, you have enough time to spend in Nagano city. Hakuba is also great but you might need more time, and also you will see lots of snow capped mountain in Alpen route too. :) I hope you come up with a great travel planning in Nagano! Wish you a Happy New Year!

Thank you for watching. Yes! It was great to see them. The cloud cleared next day so I could see the snow capped mountains .Haha, you are really good at naming in Japanese. hai, fuyutabi hajimarimashita.🤣. You know Hakuba means white horse (from the shape of snow or mountains), at least I didn't see anyone look like prince.

Hi Kenchan, we were in Hakuba more than 7 years ago. The landscape is like mini Switzerland and the gondolas were constructed with the help of their swiss counterparts. We stayed at a small B&B pension Funny Inn which seems to have closed as they are no longer listing their website. We also stayed at Hotel Sierra and agree the hotsprings are very nice altho the hotel is little far away tho from the main places. There is a very good soba restaurant ZEN and we are glad it’s still there. Perhaps we hope to revisit Hakuba in 2025. Can you share exactly which week of November you visited in this video? The autumn foliage was still very beautiful.

Hi. Thank you for sharing your experience in Hakuba! That’s great you stayed at the Sierra resort. It is very nice for driving and hot springs experience, but it’s not convenient for town activities as you said. I arrived Hakuba in the first week of November. It was a few weeks before they close the lifts for ski season.

Hello. That's great you enjoyed your trip in southern Japan. For Hakuba, I think October is the season snow starts on the top of mountain. I visited here on November 1. I think the snow cleared by summer and starts around October depends on the year. I hope you enjoy trekking there. :)

Hello Ken, thanks so much for informative video of Hakuba. I just found out that the Mountain Harbor with the Cafeteria is closed for May. I've planned to be there on 17 May mainly to enjoy a good view of the mountains. Really need your advice/suggestion for another way to appreciate the view. I don't ski or hike. Thank you very much.
