That's an interesting technique I look forward to trying. I'd like to learn more about the part "where magic happens" (my words, not yours LOL); specifically, luminosity blending the three images together. Do you have such a video?

Thanks Frank. I got a video coming out this week that will show you how to do that and I'll pin it at the top of the comments.

I have to say, that is an interesting approach to RAW files. Instead of trying to take multiple shots of the same scene with your camera, technically your RAW image captures so much data that it can be used in multiple ways. I look forward to your video where the magic happens, but I imagine you can also save it as 3 different images and then use Bridge to combine them as well.

Yes it’s a good alternative if you didn’t actually bracket your images and yes you could certainly do that with the three images and then hdr merge for sure in bridge or lightroom 👌🏻

@@Photies75 Honestly, this is revolutionary thinking. Seeing a RAW image not as a single image, but the potential of many different images in one. I'm not going to look at RAW the same way again.

Thank you for the cool video. Did you merge the visible layers in the end to blend them together? I'm a bit lost on that final step. Thank you in advance

No once you got your three different layers of your exposure you then use luminosity masks to blend the top two into the bottom one and that will make your exposure look balanced. The photo for the highlights is just for a bit of detail on the right hand side and the under exposed is just to bring back some detail in the areas where the highlights are just too bright and that can be done with the brush tool on a layer mask. I’ll do a tutorial on how to blend like that and have it out soon. 🙂

This is a really good technique for when there is movement. Exposure bracketing is useful for static scenes is that the correct reasoning?.
@thegroove2000

Would you then over expose or shoot in the centre of the exposure meter?.
@Photies75

Yes correct or if you find an area in your image challenging when it comes to recapturing detail or opening up dark areas.

Seeing your only using one image I would just shoot it normally... ie exposing to the right in terms of your histogram.
