I love the atmospheric look and feel of filming around golden hour. The knowledge shared and the humour along the way. This Aussie Army Veteran appreciates you sharing it all Josh.

Thank the good Lord for bamboo, one of nature's finest building materials. I think our young'uns will give tripod suspension a whirl with the bamboo in GrandMa's backyard. We have done quick emergency lean-to shelters, including an old plastic swimming pool liner for a cover and re-purposed foam floor tiles. This was part of a school disaster preparedness project. Now it is time to move up to adult-size projects. Thank you for the superior demonstration video.

In construction, i have used a similar technique to cut wood except i would use just my feet/boots in a vise type grip. Still works well and safe if youve practice enough.

I live in the Ozarks, thank you for putting out information in this neck of the woods. anybody can live in the northern territories above frost line we’re nothing wants to live other than mosquitoes… but come down here to Oklahoma Arkansas territory and the land is unforgiving. Chiggers, ticks and everything that stings. A man unfamiliar with the environment here won’t last long. Love the videos! Keep’em coming!

I appreciate your effort in putting this together and learned a lot. One nit, however: you need to add lighting. It's very difficult to see some of the things you're doing. I know - bushcrafters don't want light pollution, but it really is difficult to see some of what you're foing.

Not for me but hopefully it'll serve someone's purpose. Appreciate the tripod construction but I'd def have to hitch the bed. I'm too damn old to be falling trying the get up quickly in case of rustling nearby in the night. Que three stooges music.

Do the newer ‘Outback’ series of silky saws have the same ‘martensitic’ (spelling?) stainless blades for percussion sparking into char? They seem to have a darkened coated blade, the outback Pocketboy has a different length blade to the regular Pocketboy too so may not be able to interchange the blades later?

Hey Josh, as always another great video, I do have to 2 questions, 1, I notice that you start your shelter before your fire, I would think getting the fire going first would be a good idea to deal with mosquitoes, animals (bears), warmth and cooking; your thoughts on this; 2, If you had to choose 1 shelter, which shelter would you choose over the others.

Hi Sir, Can I ask if you prefer twisted or braided bankline? Also what thickness do you carry and how much? Thanks!!
@GrayBeardedGreenBeret
@GrayBeardedGreenBeret Жыл бұрын
I usually carry 1/4lb of #36, always twisted so I can separate it into three smaller strands easily. It’s the only kind I have on my website graybeardedgreenberet.com

Josh, Love your videos and your style of instruction/narration. I've often wondered when I see this setup if it is possible or worthwhile, in cold weather, to stuff the tarp with debris? Would it retain body heat the way an under quilt might in a hammock setup?
@GrayBeardedGreenBeret

Yes, the bed sleeve is meant to be filled with insulation during cold weather

Did primitive cultures ever use the handle/butt end of their axes or tomahawks as a digging stick? I have internal debate between a small trench shovel which is more for digging than as a good sharp chopper (gets blunt from digging), or a tomahawk which isn’t a digging tool at all…but most cultures digging sticks look a similar size as a tomahawk handle, so if the butt of the handle was carved to a more ‘spade’ like shape to till up the hole you want to dig eg ‘dakota fire pit’ you could then use your canteen cup to scoop the loosened soil out and accomplish a lot of what the shovel would do? Not as good for literally digging trenches to take military positions, but if your just out in the woods and trying to get more from less weight, is it a practical idea?
@impermanenthuman8427
@impermanenthuman8427 Жыл бұрын
Or would you just use the tomahawk to shape up the end of a stick you find around the hole you want to dig into a a ‘digging stick’ rather than damage your tomahawk handle 😆 There must be a reason why everyone carried a tomahawk rather than a shovel? I mean they could make small shovels if you can make axes and tomahawk heads 🤔

@@GrayBeardedGreenBeret It's real cool to watch you both, as sometimes I can get points of clarification on some skill from one of you that I couldn't get from the other. In a couple years when my son is a little older I want to come out and actually pay for some courses instead of just poaching skills off of KZfaq. Until then I'm gonna learn all I can this way and through yours and Dave's books.
