Trips from a Shipwright - Lou goes to Chile Episode 1

Join Tips from a Shipwright and Louis Sauzedde on the trip of a lifetime to Concepcion, Chile to visit and explore several boatyards, meet with local shipwrights and shed some light on the wooden boats being built there.
We would especially like to thank CETMA at the University of Concepcion for inviting and coordinating our visit, it was so satisfying to see such great work going on and to meet so many wonderful hard working people. Hopefully this will help bring some interest and exposure to the areas and people of Chile and their new ideas.

Like so many other viewers all over the world I was hoping he'd be back, was even, dare I say, worried if Louis was OK! Loved all the episodes so far, with the "TotalBoat working skiff" season being my absolute favorite - Godspeed and following seas to Mr. Sauzedde and his film-crew.

i can't believe i'm seeing footage of a shipyard near my home! here in Chile nobody knows about the shipuilding job that's going on in Lebu, after the earthquake and tsunami in 2010 most of the harbor was destroyed (and lots of houses aswell), and with that lots of the fishing boats were lost, so they had to start a rebuilding process. i'm really suprised and glad you had the opportunity to come here and even make videos about it, thx a lot! cheers from Chile :)

That is a really nice adventure you went on. My father is from Chile and i work as a boatbuilder in Sweden i mostly work with yachts and smaller boats no ships. It is nice to see that they still use wooden boats for fishing in Chile.

This visit to Chile is a true eye opener. These shipwrights work their ass off to assure a sound build. These are true work boats. As a commercial fisherman fifty years ago this is a sight to behold.

Lou I just want to said you have a life time of practical knowledge and I believe I speak for many viewers who say we greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us lowly wood butchers. I've spend 50 plus years building, remodeling houses, churches and other buildings. I must say watching your channel has opened my eyes to what a real craftsman is. My hat's off to you sir. I hope you will continue to do what you do.

Reminds me of the great old fisherman song “fiddlers green” where fisherman go when they die if they don’t go to hell. Lou found a “fiddlers green” for wooden boat builders!! I’ve been fascinated with the wooden boat culture that existed and it’s impact on societies. The jobs they produce, the homes the boat builders build, it’s great it there.
