Yammie, how does it compare to the engine characteristics of the Honda CRF 1100 manual (AT standard). I completely appreciate your remarks about the overkill on ADV technology (not necessarily for most street focused riders). BTW I resemble the “Dad bike” remark 😂😅-good humor sir!

I love the ADV bikes bc 1st Im a dad lol and 2nd, they make the most sense especially if commuting. Tour bikes are too big and heavy, cruisers aka harleys are too heavy and expensive. Sport tour bikes have a lil too much lean forward on them but ADV bikes allow lots of storage, allow you to sit straight up and allow cornering without dragging and are surprisingly nimble. Maybe its just my opinion but they just seem the best for commuting and long distant riding. Who care if theyre called "dad" bikes. I have a tiger 800 xcx and love it!

Ok so yeah... I kinda fit your stated demographic on this bike. But having said that, I’ll also say that, from a pragmatic standpoint, my new 850 Sport not only fits me perfectly, it just makes sense! What you said about all the rider modes and doo-dads is totally true: 98% of an average rider’s time on a bike would never even remotely need all that. I very much appreciate the rain mode though; I still get wigged out by throttle response etc. but yes, I’ve come to understand that the 850 made total sense to me. So I bought one and am planning chomping down major miles. This bike was a brilliant creation in my view . Love it! And I thank you for your review ex post facto! Already bought a tail pack in anticipation of our first adventure!

I am a biker since 2002 and i never heard nobody describing a bike like you do Man !! You got all the points described very well starting of specs numbers purpose and what is ideal for etc etc ..... i owned the old Tiger 800xr which didn't have whistle and bells but i loved soo much i would definitely go for the at least for the GT900 for the bigger TFT adjustable suspension cruise control 5 riding mode and adding options of the quick shifter but the purpose is exact same as you just described with a little bit of luxury 😉 Good job buddy 👏👍

Excellent review. If I wasn't in the UK and so under a full lockdown... plus the rain and snow... I'd have ridden an 850 Sport by now. I AM that older rider you keep talking about, but I've been riding over 40 years and I really don't need a super fast bike anymore, just something I can do local days out on, or ride 500 miles in a day, depending on what takes my fancy. Being an older sport touring kind of guy I find myself looking at adventure bikes a lot more now. When it comes to what I like and find most appealing I tend to really gravitate toward the Suzuki V-Strom 1050. Something like that with removable luggage could be perfect for an older guy. That Triumph is pretty darn nice too. I wish you and Spite could do a comparison between the two.

@The Insufferable Tool i don't think a bit of fork adjustment is going to help you out on the height front. Preload is about weight. And damping never changes the height.
@chrishart8548
@chrishart8548 3 жыл бұрын
@The Insufferable Tool it's actually worse if you're to light for a bike but luckily if you're around 75kg it's made for you. I'm 12 1/2 stone and 5'10 1/2. The European bikes are set up for more weight than Japanese models as there all 5'5" and 60kg
@chrishart8548
@chrishart8548 3 жыл бұрын
@The Insufferable Tool i use the pre load when my girlfriend is on the back I can get the height to where it is with just me on it. I think for a lot of people buying motorcycles a set of springs to suit the riders weight is required. No bike could work with people both 6 stone and 20 stone. And also the compromise between a plush ride vs bottoming out the suspension.

@@asanrushid4981 they are completely different bikes, it would depend on my riding. I've toured on a Street Triple but it has somewhat limited storage, is dangerously impractical 2-up and you can't stand on the pegs, also for the long haul the seat isn't very comfortable. That said I love the Street Triple for day trips and even solo overnights. I didn't need to decide so I bought both 😃 The Street Triple is also around $3000 cheaper but, as I said, totally different bikes.

I fell in love with Triumph back in the 1970's, as a kid... great memories... but, having trouble warming up to them knowing that they are manufactured now in Bangkok, Thailand. Triumph should consider building their bikes in the USA, that are sold in the USA, with parts availability in the USA. It'd be interesting to know how much more expensive they would be, as a result.

The Triumph 850 sounds good for an all around bike. One question for us older people who like to bring stuff. Are bags available that look ok with this Transformer style look? I should be asking for a good cheap bike suggestion if possible. A 2-3k average price? Had a Hayabusa and yeah they're nuts!!! I'm thinking mid control's sit up style, not a totally top sitting style like a dirt bike but rather more relaxing like described of the Triumph 850. So the question really is, are the heated seats, grips, hand guards, engine protection and additional rider modes worth the extra $5k? I can also confirm that the Tiger turns heads of random middle age dudes (being one myself). Can also confirm the SUV comparison but I'd say its a lot like a Tahoe or Expedition in that its a larger, not as nimble off road SUV compared to say a Jeep Wrangler. Yeah the rally pro will get through the same stuff my buddy's KLX250 does, but it is NOT happy about some of it.

Was there engine heat at certain point of times? Strong/ felt it but manageable/ very mild? How was the fuel consumption based on your combo highway, twisties, etc ride?

I've heard of the triples only from Yamaha's tracers9. Unfortunately the tracers9 is bulky and strangely ergonomics put me off. The KTM has some gremlins inside their bikes, Honda's makes lumpy twins, so far Kawasaki had won my heart, but I sat on a triumph Tiger xr last year and it's soo comfy , not bulky design,and fits like a glove ergonomics really caught my interest. Then this year triumph introduced a "T" crank to their engines, I was curious maybe it'll be lumpy because all uneven crank, firing order engine bikes becomes bad & lumpy. Smooth and linear is the way to go. So how's the engine on this?

I enjoy my sport bike for all the opposite reasons I enjoy my ADV / Touring bike. They are what they are.

I rode that same bike (literally) at Emma Long on the trail. Motor feels great but I was pretty upset that I couldn’t turn off the ABS. Probably should’ve apologized to triumph for bashing the skid plate as hard as I did.

Been looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this bike. Looking for my next bike, capable commuter, it needs good power to weight ratio and has to be able to hit the highway with some power left in reserve. My bikes are more sport orientated but rode a KTM790 last year and found that position appealing. Looking forward to your follow-up video.

It’s kinda wierd. Triumph targets the buyers that are mainly road adventurers for this 850 Sport, but on a bike like this, why isnt cruise control optional?🤔 i really miss that accessory for the 850. The "budget" 750GS does come with it

Gotta ask as EU bro... why in US in recent years are always on new bikes bulb indicators? Literally no LEDs as stock... on this model in EU, we have LED indicators, stock. I'm just curious - why is that?
