I had a burgundy TR7 for 18 months. So CUTE a car. FUN to drive. Was in the shop almost every month for something. Mostly electrical (LUCAS)... ugh! Several starter relays. Dissimilar metal contacts! Stupid engineering. Only one mechanical problem. shifter stick popped out of socket. Mechanic got drunk and wrapped the car around a tree. He had to buy the car from me. I was as happy that day as I had been the day I bought the car!!! I always wondered two things when I got into the car: 1. Will it crank? and 2. Will it get me back home? I never had that experience with any other car. I miss the fun of driving it, just the same.

I rebuilt mine 13-14 years ago when they were generally classed as worthless by many and parts were generally cheap and available. Don't envy any poor sod who is rebuilding one now especially with the cost and limited parts availability. Good luck.

Back working at a BM dealership in the 70s, we had to try to find used heads that were not porous. There were always the leaking sunroofs here. Maybe there were other problems in other parts of the country.

Great car the TR7, fantastic on long drives but for certain issues. I owned one for 9 years, fond memories too. I became used to knocking on people's doors, "Can I use your phone please"?!!!!!!!

Steven, greetings and a very good morning to you from `sunny' North Wales. I'm sure if you persist in your search you'll come across one in Americaland. Just be aware that the U.S. versions were stifled with Emission parts, 105BHP (UK) to around 80BHP (US). Could you let me know how you get on? Take care. Chris Robinson

What can i expect for maintence on these cars? Does it need constant repairs and replacement parts? Im thinking of buying one but I dont want to have to have it in the shop after each use. Id just be using it to go a couple miles (10 max) a couple times a week maybe longer on occassion.
@chrisrobinson614 ай бұрын
Michael, if you're after a TR7 then my advice is to look at the upper end of the price range. That way most of the Mechanical and bodywork issues will have been resolved. Take care. Chris Robinson

Wow that's a lot of work needed on that yellow TR7, that posses quite a bit of "weight reduction". But if you know how to do this type of work, then I hope it goes well for you. I'll watch and learn from your vids. Or perhaps you know someone with this expertise? Either way, good luck with this little yellow TR7. Hopefully it will be returned to its former glory ! 👍
