I don't know if anyone else has said it but Behind Murphys face is solid steel shooting his face would do nothing his brain is heavily protected in steel so shooting his face does nothing the directors did an interview awhile ago explaining that. Also good reaction and I love this movie my favorite childhood movie!

Stylistically Robocop is quite different to Terminator. Terminator is straight sci-fi time travel movie. Robocop is a dark satire of commercial interests. It is much more "extreme" in terms of content. Another satire by this director is "Starship Troopers" (I think it was from 1997).

I loved when Blue was confused that Murphy wasn't dead with a hole in his head. It's completely possible, if not rare, for people to survive head injuries. Even if they were shot in the head, it's still a real thing people can survive from. There was someone a long time ago tried shooting himself in the head with a Volcanic Arms lever action handgun and survived. Another man was shot in the head by his wife in his sleep, only to wake up later and complaining about a headache. Then you have Manfred Von Richthofen (pilot of the Red Baron) shot in the head by a .30 caliber most likely, and survived only to get shot down again months later. Lastly for the stories I can recall, you have Franz Stigler who was one of the main characters in the book A Higher Call. The book is the collective accounts of an American and German pilot from WWII when the German pilot save the American pilot and his crew. Franz Stigler was eventually shot in the head by a .50 caliber going through his canopy. Not only did he survive that head injury, but he survived the war and spent the next 50 years trying to find who the American was he saved. He wanted so desperately to know if he survived too, they eventually met each other in the 1990's and became friends. I know this was a long series of stories for a comment, but I just found these to be too interesting and not a lot of people know how resilient the human body can potentially be.

Robocop was the first true “sleeper” blockbuster. When I was a kid, we saw trailers for it, but literally no one knew what it was about. I and my brother were 8 when we saw it…our dad had no idea what kind of movie it was or he would have never taken us 😂 It was a huge hit out of no where!

Your reactions are so genuine and sincere and I’ve cried along with you at some of the real emotional scenes in some of these movies. My favourite of all time is Highlander from 1986 staring Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert. It’s an action/thriller/love story based on a man who is immortal. "This is the values we want to teach?" *in reference to the "nuke'em" game* Actually, the movie was describing a dystopian future where society becomes like that. Back in the '80s it was a future society. Today, that is the world we live in now, very different from the more care-free '80s.

There's a documentary on Netflix about the making of Robocop. Apparently the special effects of him being killed were so realistic, even the crew got upset about it.

That part where the toxic waste guy gets splattered on the car... I saw that at a friend's house when I was way too young to see something like that & it kinda scarred me for life. So gross!

80's gore at its finest blended with a great Robocop costume and superb physical acting from Peter Weller, who made the motion of the Robocop real. Most people probably just wanted to see you react to the toxic waste scene :)

Besides being a sci-fi action film, this is a satire of American society in the late 1980's. Other films by director Paul Verhoeven similar to this are Total Recall and Starship Troopers. This was released the same year as Predator, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Full Metal Jacket and The Running Man. This was followed by three sequels, an animated series, two live action shows, a reboot, comics, graphic novels and videogames

"What if they hit his chin". His chin and face arent human. According to the writers and FX guys, the only parts of Murphy left are his brain and some of his digestive tract. The face was made of a cast of his face (aka a deathmask), so its rubber... over a metal / plastic / carbon fiber skull. It was made to look like Murphy so that, in the event he regained some memory, he wouldn't ho insane if he looked in the mirror and didnt have a face (see part 2 for examples). And as is stated in Robocop 2, the false face was made "to honor him".

Peter Weller, who played Murphy, also played the title character in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, which I think you would enjoy.

Robocop's face is a prosthetic it's metal underneath. They gave him a face so that if he looked in a mirror and saw something different he might go insane.

Robocop is basically a documentary about the 80s, but with a little less cocaine.

FUN FACT: Kurtwood Smith and Joan Pirkle, the secretary at 31:03, were married a year after this movie's release and are still together to this day. This was the scene were they met.

Robocop and The Terminator have met before. Back in the early 90's there was a video game on Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis called " Robocop vs The Terminator. Both of them are also playable characters in Mortal Kombat 11.

The medical unit in the movie trying to save Murphy is a real trauma unit in the US. The Doctors told the director they get people shot up like that the time. They said of course they don't live, but as long as there is a heartbeat they have to try. I think Robocop 2 is awesome. Even darker, one of the bad-guys is a 12 year old. It was written by comic-book icon Frank Miller and directed by Irvin Kershner who directed The Empire Strikes Back. Paul Verhoeven made the first Robocop. He went on to make 2 more Science-fiction movies that are classics and a must see! Total Recall(1990) and Starship Troopers(1997) both are like Robocop very satirical and very violent. Starship Troopers is my favorite. The special effects in Starship Troopers are still amazing and hold up after 25 years.

It's a story about regaining your humanity.. As the movie progresses, Murphy becomes less machine and more man. Even his voice at the end when he says his name is more human than electronic.

Murphy fit the criteria for the RoboCop programme, which is why at the start OCP moves him to a more dangerous precinct and why backup was always delayed/unavailable. Lewis would have just been collateral damage.

Great reaction, Trixy. I remember asking my parents to record this on a VHS from the local TV station because it was on really late. And yes, they did record it for me. Watched it and absolutely loved it. Now, many would say that their parents would allow their kid within 100 m of a TV broadcasting a movie like this. Well, I have to say that not only did I love this movie from the get-go but my mother is also a huge fan of this movie. - A little fun fact for you, you know Dick Jones' secretary that Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) hits on and she simply replies "He's expecting you, Mr. Boddicker"? Well, that is Kurtwood Smith's real life then-partner now-wife. Also, Paul Verhoeven originally didn't want to make this movie at all and threw the script in the trash but his wife picked it up, read it, and convinced him to make this movie. Verhoeven went on to make Total Recall and Starship Troopers and these three movies are sort of seen a trilogy even though they really only share the director (some other people too* but mainly the director). So yes, glad to see that you liked the movie, it's really great. *: examples: Ronny Cox (Dick Jones) was in both RoboCop and Total Recall, and Michael Ironside who was in both TR and Starship Troopers.

There are a lot of elements in Robocop that can easily slip your attention. Robocop is basically the corporate, dystopian, hyper-capitalistic nightmare. Every ad is basically a representation of this. OCP cares as little about anything else than profits. Morton had Murphy transferred to the most dangerous district in Detroit before he got permission to continue, or even knew if he would. This is a sign of him carrying nothing about Murphy, Murphy is just a suitable person for his Robocop project. If he gets the go-ahead, good. If no, then Murphy is just a nobody who can die for all he cares. As Lord Farquaad says in Shrek, "some of you will die and that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make." There are so many players in this movie and you never really notice them all the first time you watch it.

YES, My favorite movie from 1987! Before Peter Weller was cast as the titular character, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Armand Assante, Michael Ironside, Rutger Hauer, Sylvester Stallone, and Tom Berenger were considered. Weller lost 3 lbs a day from wearing the suit and couldn't eat any solid food except for PBJ Sandwiches, Ice cream, oatmeal and a protein shake that he would drink. The stop motion animation effects were done by Oscar Winning VFX company Phil Tippett, whom did VFX for Star Wars JURASSIC PARK and Starship Troopers. The film was a box office and critical success making $60 million dollars against a $13 million dollar budget. It won the Oscar for Best Sound Editing.

Saw this in the theater as a kid, was crying when he got shot up and kept getting confused with the commercials. A few weeks later saw Predator in theater. Yep, that was the 80s. Blockbuster after blockbuster virtually every weekend every year. Hey you seem to really like 80's action movies here is one to check out if you haven't already: Die Hard

to answer your question as why the left his face is actually backed by real psychology. if you erase a person memory and they see their reflection and it dosent resemble being a human being it will cause them to have a psychological break and go insane questioning who and what they are. As for Robo, the only human parts left of him are really just his face put on a metal skull, his brain (which has some robotic chip implants to interface with the robotics and to program/controll him so not even his full brain and the most basic organs like lungs, heart (which i think is replaced with a robotic fake heart) and basic digestive system to supply nutrients and oxygen to his brain and keep that alive to drive the robotic body. so he is like 98% robot with Alex Murphy's consciousness put in it .

FYI the movie takes place in a more corporatist dystopian future in Detroit. I don't know if you noticed, but the Police in the movie are actually a company not a government agency. Of course, Detroit is known as one of the most crime ridden cities in America. after a bunch of industries left, tons of people were left destitute. The movie hams this up to the extreme with how it portrays crime in the city and is a massive satirical critique of the corporations that hold heavy saw over the city and how they "give back to the community".

If you liked that, you have to check out the other 2 films of the Paul Verhoeven trilogy, Total Recall (1990, with Arnold) and Starship Troupers (1997). These 3 are all extremely graphic, but ultimately fun satire films of his.

You might have noticed at times in the movie that there is a very subtle rainbow oxidation effect visible in the reflection of Robo's armor. Perhaps you are familiar with this oxidation effect which may be most commonly seen to exist on titanium exhuast header pipe in performance or racing applications. Plus, this kind of matches ya har.

Ah the 80s, when movies like this had cartoons and toy lines for kids. RoboCop is my interchangeable #1 and #2 movie of all time with Jurassic Park. I was 5 in 1987, and saw it at 6 on VHS, it was the movie that opened my eyes to cinema outside of Superman movies and Disney cartoons and made me a cineaste.

Commercials in this ones are gold. In the second one the're also good :)

Waiting for hours for an ambulance, followed by another wait *inside* the ambulance for up to 8 hours (sometimes more) waiting for a bed to become available in A&E.

-You can survive bullet to the head, there are people who has survived even when rebar (strengthens concrete in buildings.) has gone throug their skull. I have read an article where a man had the left lobe of his brain removed. If the cerebellum unharmed you have a chance. Then there always the possibility that a blood vessel in the brain pops for no reason, it doesn't matter if you are young or old. -In the movie OCP owns Detroit cops, so who knows what is written in the contract in small print. -Robocop has human brains, because OCP uses his brain a part of socalled wetware computer. Even it´s still conseptual idea.

this was the first reaction video i watched from your channel and now that i got used to your personal style of content i watched it again and it was actually more entertaining. reaslly great reaction. i love this movie and actually still remember some of the feelings i had when i first watched it. the excitement, the amazement, the dramatic stuff and the brutal special effects. i was about six or seven years old and still want to make a movie with such awesome effects, such an awesome story and so much great satire myself.

the scene when Robocop/murphy was bretrayed is the best scene, with him and rediscovered his home... tata tin, tatatin And Lewis.

A lot of Robocop’s one liners are lifted from British comic book character Judge Dredd and there are other Dredd influences through out the film. In fact the original design for Robocop was very Judge Dredd like

The city they filmed it on was Dallas Texas because of the very futuristic modern architecture. The OCP building is just Dallas City Hall. The beginning chase scene you can see Reunion Tower coming and going in the background. Local children's show celebrity, Mr Peppermint had a cameo as one of the robot operators when they brought out ED 209. Mr Peppermint was similar to Mr Roger's show.

I still remember people flipping out in the theater over the NUKEM game, and when Murphy went back to his family's This old home. commercials were a commentary on Ronnei Reagan economy plan in America, free market economy.

I actually enjoyed Robocop 2 as well. But I would also recommend watching Starship Troopers before Robocop 2. Same director, lotsa visual...ness. Simple but effective storyline. Loaded with action.

FUN FACT- Realizing that the film was running behind schedule and over budget, director Paul Verhoeven and producer Jon Davison purposely did not film one crucial scene: Officer Murphy's death. When production wrapped, they went back to Los Angeles and grimly informed the execs that Murphy's death had not been filmed. After a test screening they were given more money & time to shoot one. They dressed up a new warehouse to look the same & shot the EPIC scene.

Schwarzenegger was actually going to be the lead in this movie, but then once they got a suit on to him they realized that he was so huge with the armor that no one would believe that even the Ed 209 would be a danger to him, so they looked for a much skinnier actor, another requirement of the actor of course was having a good chin and lower face structure as that's all that you would be seeing most of the time. :-) Loved your reaction!!

I’ve seen a few reactions for this one and it seems that some of the younger people didn’t realize that while the film was released in 1987 it’s supposed to take place in what was supposed to be the future.

Second one definitely has that "make a sequel" feel to it. It's not really bad, but isn't even close to having the satire of society the first one has. I don't even remember anything about the third one other than that there's a jetpack and the 2014 is just a PG-13 waste of time. You'd be much better off watching the other two of Paul Verhoeven's trifecta: Total Recall and Starship Troopers. 6:55 That's the definition of a glitch. The problem is they loaded the thing with live ammo for a demonstration. 35:12 He weighs like half a ton, course he's gonna be a bit slower. This M-rated movie was totally marketed towards kids. There was a cartoon, video games, and toys. They did the same with Rambo, Aliens and Terminator. That's how things were.

Verhoeven trilogy as some call it, is: Robocop, Total Recall and Starship troopers. Beneath all the gore, one liners they have excellent satire, social commentary and criticism facism / militarism / corporatism. Or you can just turn your brains off and enjoy some of the best action films done in that period.

Hey, Blue - another couple of suggestions for action films that have probably dropped under the radar for you to watch: The Long Kiss Goodnight with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson, and Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts - both from the late '90's. Not sci-fi, but plenty of action!

Yes, you should watch Robocop 2. In terms of why it's important to put a human face on the machine so the human brain can have some sort of connection to its former self, you'll see why in the next movie. I won't spoil the scene.

Terminator, RoboCop and Blade Runner pretty much started the Cyberpunk genre together with the SF novels by William Gibson (Neuromancer & Johnny Mnemonic). They even inspired a lot of Manga & Anime, like Bubblegum Crisis and Ghost in the Shell, which later became full circe with The Matrix.
