Awesome Review

I might have to get this sim. While it currently doesn't have the variety Railworks has, it IS in very early development, and I can see that this sim has MASSIVE potential for the future. But right now, I can't purchase too much since I am saving for a new, better computer.

I think I might get the Run8 Train Simulator I know is a cool game to run it pretending to be a Engineer and Conductor and dispatcher and maintenance and do railfanning

Not to mention Reefer Cars, Coal/Ballast hoppers, and SD40-2's were released in the past 3 weeks.

Thankfully the Needles Sub and Mojave Sub come default with Run 8, so you no longer have to buy them separately from the game which I think is very nice.

I hope railworks can have merging routes in the future.

the music reminds me of a movie

Man-o-man this looks amazing. I've thought about the differences between Trainz, Railworks, and Run8. Railworks, seems to go more towards eye candy than functionality. Trainz seems to be more driven on content creation and route editing overall (as well as eye candy but does pull it off with the said functionality). Humping and kicking cars in both Trainz and Railworks don't seem to work out all that well. I was watching videos of Run8 when it first came out and thought, "Wow that looks pretty cool." For me, realism and actual simulation of railroad operations is what's important, not just some game that puts "simulator" in its title because it can. Run8 Train Simulator IS A SIMULATOR. With the addition of humping and kicking cars (& being able to do them in a successful and prototypical manner), I think Trainz and Railworks might have their work cut out for them. Especially if Run8 ever gets the much needed attention that it rightly deserves from a wider audience.

STUPENDOUS! And the fact that routes can just automatically merge is incredible! If Run8 continues to expand, one could literally be a part or total hero in driving The Salad Express the full distance! Excellent shots, and nice audio montage work on the player interplay. I think you can hand ill, handal - handle it Nick. LOL

I would love to buy this sim....I'm from Greece but I know many thinks about US railways..Im a big fan..(our favorite lovomotives in Greece are MLW and alcos! )... I'm sure I will do fine in multiplayer!

Quite a bit has been updated for the game since this review, I'm thinking for your next episode you could do a longer review of Run8 V2, Cajon Pass, All of the CSX routes, and the updated trainsets. Since this review they have released: Cajon Pass CSX Selkirk Terminal CSX A Line CSX Mohawk Sub Five SD40-2 packs Two GP40-2 packs Two Caboose packs(SP and ATSF) Ten assorted freight packs And Run8 Train Simulator V2, which includes dynamic lighting, AI trains, improved UI, improved physics, SD70Ace, and SD40T-2. I can't speak for V2 as I haven't purchased it yet, however I would say the trainsets are a little overpriced for the amount of content they provide, as are the routes, if they combined a few of the trainsets into their intended routes, so each route would come with new rolling stock, and the trainsets wouldn't be sold separately, that might make their prices a little more warranted. But really each of the locomotive sets are just reskins of the same template, all of the SD40s are the same with little visual details(such as the SP units having their iconic gyra lights), so you're essentially paying 20 dollars for four skins for the same locomotive, you have to do this five times which comes to 100$ just to get all of the SD40s, which you probably won't even use as they don't have the advanced computers of the GEVOs. That's not counting rolling stock, which comes to 116$ And the routes together come to 160$ All of that on top of the 50$ base game, and 35$ for the Amtrak content. I could buy a new laptop, and raildriver, for the price of this game... and that really is the price of the game, because you basically need the packs to play multiplayer or get any kind of enjoyment out of offline play. Oh and did I mention if even one of these packs, or the game itself get lost due to corruption, you have to re-buy the pack full price, because they don't allow multi-use downloads. This sim has so much potential, but it's being squashed by greed and the general unprofessional attitude of the developers.

Tell me, does this route include Daggett? I live within the vicinity of the town and I am hoping the route has a decent interpretation of it in the virtual world. I can't seem to find it on their website, is it part of the Cajon Subdivision route?

Great review! Your making me want these more, which is good! These bugs which do exist will get fixed at some time, unlike RSC, where it would be completely ignored. Anyway, keep this stuff coming! I also know some of those voices on the radio from DAMS. :P

hm looks pretty good, hopefully if they have not yet, they put in a system that allows you to play on servers y]with DLC but doesn't allow you to use them, so anyone can join, and its not restricted by who has what, and so on . . .

When this program becomes more polished, less beta, and has more routes/liveries, I'm totally in. Not a big fan of DTG, or their train 'game'. Looking forward to seeing Run 8's future.

Looks good, but I won't get these updates for a few reasons. 1. Their customer service was a bit rude, 2. My computer hates to run the game half the time and 3. I barely play it anymore.

Can anyone explain to me why I keep getting a broken knucklehead everytime I start moving the train? I start moving the train then a couple seconds later, the knucklehead breaks and I don't know where and I put the player on the ground to go find the broken knuckle but and can't find it and I can't get back into the locomotive. Is there a quick easy way to not to have the knuckle broken or a quick way to go to the broken knuckle? Any help would be appreciated!

The amount of money Run 8 wants for their software with the shitty paintjobs is ridiculous. I'm sorry to say but the terrible fonts are on just about every locomotive, even the original BNSF paint scheme looks like Times New Roman.

The addons for this game are FUCKING HIGHWAY ROBBERY. They range from $6 to $20, and routes cost $40 EACH. THAT'S TOO EXPENSIVE! Why can't we just pay for the base game, and have everything else be 100% free with optional donations?
