I love how you had to pull another trick out of the bag to find a pattern! Seeing you use the lead core put a smile on my face. Lead core has saved the day for me a bunch over the years!

I’ve enjoyed watching Tom’s videos all spring/ summer on wisconsin lakes and it was cool to see him fish what I consider to be my “home” lake which is mille lacs. Definitely a stronger bite in May and June but he still put fish in the boat to no surprise. As a kid my dad and I never used to bother with Mille lacs in August. That 19-21” class is real strong right now. Lake seems to be struggling with enough supply of bait fish between trophy smallmouth, Muskie, and walleye.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not worthy to even carry Tom's tackle box, but this video does miss out on explaining some of the details that go into leadcore fishing. Perhaps some of you who know about it can fill in the gaps here in the comment section for those of us who have much to learn. It may be wrong, but here's how I do it. Reels: I use line counter reels. Shimano Tekota, a Daiwa Sealine, and some Cabelas Depthmaster reels. Looks like Tom has an Okuma Cold Water(?). I wish mine were all Tekotas but I'd be happy with Sealines and I've heard good things about the Okuma's also. I wish I used the money that I spent on the Depthmaster reels to buy another Daiwa or Shimano which are much better. The Depthmaster is okay at best. Rods: I don't know much about trolling rods, I've been told they don't matter as much when trolling. I have one that is a heavy, it's way to stiff, I can't read the tip at all. I like the rods where you can read the tips so you know if your bait is running right, or if you are on bottom etc. I have a couple Ugly Sticks that work surprisingly well (I mean Elliots, only Elliot's will work for catching fish) Line: I use 18lb leadcore. I usually put on whatever fits on my reel 7-10 colors Leader: I use 10 lb mono and tie on a 30' lead. That way if you break off a lure or two or three you still have enough line to tie back on. I usually put on a new lead when I get below 10' Lures: Flicker Shads, Flicker Minows and Flicker Shads Depth: I usually try to run just above where I am seeing fish on the graph. I've been told they are more likely to go up for bait then they are to go down. I have no idea if it's true. Speed: 2.0-3.0 mph. Play around in that range and see what the fish go for. App: I use the app 'Troll Master Depth Calculator'. It's a great little app where you enter line, leader, lure, target depth, speed etc. and it will tell you exactly how much line you need to let out to achieve your desired depth. A big thanks to Tom for all the info he has shared with all of us.

Dude! Lake Erie walleye and Lake Ontario salmon fisherman. This was my first video of yours (I thinlk). Doug Wampler reccomended your videos on KZfaq in a post on facebook. I have watched hundreds and possibly thousands of videos on you tube. You have a natural talent and hardwork ethic to put together a great video. I will be watching more even if they do not apply all that much to my fishing region. Great job for making watch-able content and pointing out a few things (or many things I just did not figure that out yet) I can learn along the way. Also I like Alumacraft and Humminbird guys.

People in the comment section. This isn’t a how to, it’s a video of him and his experience pulling lead core on the big pond. It’s a lot of information for put into one video if you start getting into the nitty gritty of lead core. Also who’s to complain with him uploading quality content on a very regular basis. Appreciate his commitment to fishing as much as his commitment to this channel and us, his fans. Im not meaning this in any sort of negative way to people who are genuinely curious about this way if fishing, please ask as many questions. It’s to the experienced fishermen who are trying to make it seem like his video came up short.

Thats why i love trolling rivers. Kick it in neutral and cuts the fight in half drifting back. Lose far less fish.

Tom: I've not been fishing for a number of years due to life issues so I don't have direct experience to draw on. So please bear with me. I don't understand the use of lead core line. What I mean is, why use lead core? Why not use wire line? Yes, I understand the goal of getting the lure/bait down to the level of the fish but you have to use so much lead core behind the boat to do that it seems inefficient to me. If you could get the same lure to the same depth with less line out, using wire maybe, wouldn't that be easier to put the lure right where you want it, and have it track the boat's path better? Or, how about adding a heavy snap weight to the lead core so instead of letting out 120 feet of lead core you only have let out maybe 80 feet of lead core line? Maybe use a Dipsy Diver? Does this make sense to you? I'm not sure if I'm asking my question correctly. So why use lead core?
