Today we are on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. August and the late summer time frame is often a time of year for fishing deep, nomadic walleyes. Today we are utilizing lead core to troll crank baits for these late summer walleyes. In this video I talk about the rod and reel I like to use for trolling lead core. I also talk about why fishing this way is so effective. If you have not tried trolling lead core for walleyes hopefully this video gives you the confidence to do so. Thanks for watching!

I think I've learned more about walleye fishing in the last month from watching your videos than I have in the last year from watching all other channels. Thanks for what you do. I live in eastern Nebraska, and we don't have a ton of walleyes around, but you've helped me in targeting them since I picked up fishing again in the last couple of years.

Great job ! Just did some lead core trolling earlier in the week in Western NE. Trolling in 30' range, worked just like you covered in video, you can really target the depth, unfortunately, we didn't catch any wally's doing it, but we caught alot of smallies. We did end up with a 31" and 32" wally one day, wasn't trolling but jigging. Biggest I've ever seen or caught. Keep up the great work!

I think Tom runs Cannon rod holders. I use HITORHIKE paid $36.98/pair (2), bought them on Amazon also rod holder extenders by HITORHIKE $14.95/pair (2) I really like these, and I have a lot of experience rigging boats and fishing. My Aluminum down rigger holders are Cannon, I didn't see the plastic ones when I searched. I don't believe that they're better though, these are really nice and strong. I hope this helps, good luck!

What are your thoughts on leadcore and a small rapala vs say a 30' Tail Dancer, Salmo Freediver 12, etc that can get down to 30+ feet without diving aids? Are the fish maybe turned off by the size of the tail dancers or would the results be somewhat similar? Also, it looks like you upgraded your rod holders to the stealth tackle rod holders. How are you liking them? I got 1 for my kayak and I like it but haven't been out a lot to truly test it.
