BTS actually swear in their songs sometimes, although not much, but suga swear quite a lot in his solo stuff because that's how he prefers to express what he wants to get across and since they're so successful I'm pretty sure their company doesn't mind.

Suga is actually a direct descendant of the Yeoheung Min clan (MIN yoongi) which is a royal powerful clan from the Joseon era. So he IS a royal descendant (four of his ancestral grandmothers were queens/empresses). The two people fighting at the back at the start of Daechwita MV is actually 2 members of BTS- Jin (the eldest) and Jungkook (the youngest) 😂

Facts, and if Korea still had Emperors/Empresses ruling over them he would be next in line for the throne after his father. So he is indeed a King & a boss, even the other BTS members refer to him as King Min Yoongi (Jimin in particular has said this numerous times in clips over the years).

We call him a genius because he is so damn creative in his rapping, raw and honest in a way few artists really get, and he can create some fo the most unusual unique beats and complex songs. He’s so aggressive it’s ridiculous, I’d never want to piss him off and have him call me out because he absolutely will. RM mentions how long Suga holds a grudge over things done to BTS in the past. Also he takes complete control he is the producer, composer, does the keyboards, writes the lyrics, and writes the storyboards for his music videos. Having him, RM and JHope in a group isn’t fair they are 3 absolute top tier rappers that complement each other. They all are so over talented and hard working it’s no surprise where they are and they keep pushing the boundaries of creativity. These 3 show his skills off well and also his swag is unparalleled, king and boss. Who else in kpop will challenge the system by swearing smoking killing people violently and calling out the evils in society and using traditional Korean classical instruments. The MVs are loaded with symbolism and historical Easter eggs.

Agust D is the persona that Suga created where he could voice what could not be said in BTS music. Although BTS addressed many issues that are more or less taboo in their society, Agust D is raw and real and not afraid to say what needs to be said. His tongue technology is what many people fall in love with. Agust D was written in response to all the hate he and RM got for leaving underground rap and becoming idols.

I'd more say that the music does not fit the concept work BTS has done since the beginning and that became only more elaborate over time. This is why they have mixtapes and solo songs on soundcloud (later also on Spotify). The music is very good but it does not fit the story BTS was "currently" telling: school, youth under hardship (HYYH), "coming of age" in literature (Wings is based on Hermann Hesse's Damian to be seen under the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the psychologist Carl Jung work), Self-Love and to "Love Yourself" you have to "Know Yourself": psychology aka "Map of the Soul" (standard book about Carl Jung's theories) + the pandemic album These stories went over multiple albums and had a natural flow into each other especially in the later years. There are more than just albums to a theme but a story that explains it. The songs ceased to stand purly on their own. It's a group project which is why certain members could not just drop as many songs as they wanted on those albums - but still perform some of the songs at concerts. You nice! Keep going! 💜

They were breaking the rules of taboo on the stuff they spoke about way before they were big. I remember when the first Agust D mixtape came out and I listened to The Last, I was absolutedly gutted and stunned because it's one of the most raw songs on an artists personal stuggles with mental health I'd ever heard and they hadn't even won their first daesang (grand prize) in Korean yet let alone made it into the Western music scene. One of the reasons they became so deeply loved by fans, accumunalting a big international following, while still not being recognized for a long time within the Korean music awards scene was BECAUSE of what they were willing to speak about and the size of their company. Joke (the first RM song you reacted to) and Agust D were songs that were a risk but they were underground rappers being true to themselves regardless of whether they were an Idol or not. They were throwing their SKILLS in the faces of haters rather than a long list of achievements because that's what they'd done before and they just didn't have that list yet. I think one of the reasons they were able to keep true to themselves and not forget where they came from when they were succeful is because they risked so much refusing to give that up when it could have cost them their shot at success.

I liked your reaction. You really pay attention and know when to pause to make sure you understood something and when to go ahead and let the song ride out and then discuss later. I think you'll also be surprised with JHope's songs 'Arson' and 'More'. He typically has a 'happier' vibe in his solo music (even when dissing someone) but those two songs are from his album release last year and are much more intense. I really can't decide my favorite rapper of BTS since they are all so different in their flow and approach, but that's one of the many things that makes BTS the best band in the world.

Suga is definitely no beating around the bush guy. I love his raw music , straightforward , direct , his bluntness , the lyrics hit hard speaki the raw truth( ex.his THE LAST so powerful and Suga's exposing his vulnerability yet so honest!) . Back in the days when BTS was just underdog and so many haters particularly those some underground rappers like B-free( oh my those demeaning interview of them for my boys was blood boling) who looked down Suga and RM , that's how Agust D was born . They deserved this kind of disstrack for them. Suga making his own beat in every song he has is awesome! Not only he is one of the best and fastest rapper in the industry but He is such a genius in making music. The only main producer among the 7 members and produces music not only for BTS but also to other arrists, songwriter, composer, lyricist, dancer, actor--the guy definitely can act based on his performance on his m/v. Whether what kind of songs he has , a topic of deppression , sad, relationship, dissing haters, spitting about tge real issue of tge society or whats going on in the world today ( ex. HAEGEUM) his liyrics is consistent and always deliver it with his feelings and emotions. THE LAST , FIRST LOVE of course DARCHWITA and AGUST D too , so raw and showing his pure emotion and and you can feel he is pouring his heart out these songs . And there's also his another masterpiece SHADOW. I just love his music , the reason he is my super and ultimate bias in rapline and Jungkook for tge vocal line. That's my preference. BUT EACH OF THE MEMBER HAS A LOT TO OFFER, EACH OF THEM HAVE THEIR OWN CHARM .THEY ARE ALL MULTI -TALENTED, MOST OF ALL THEY ARE ALL HUMBLE, GENEROUS AND VERY CHARITABLE GROUP , THEY NEVER CHANE AND REMAINED UNCHANGED EVEN THWY ARE NOW THE BIGGEST BAND IN TGE PLANET! I LOVE THEM - BTS X ARMY 💜FOREVER!

Even as an army, I'm not going to claim that Suga will for sure be your favorite Kpop rapper, especially because expectations of idol rappers have really risen in the past few years. Even some solo Kpop rappers are really impressive and have that more aggressive older style you seem to gravitate towards. But I could totally see Suga being in your top three because him and RM are an essential reason why the rap standard in Kpop is so much higher now and Suga is just. that. good. He's an artist really. BTW the two guys fighting in the background of Daechwita are two other members; Jungkook and Jin haha

About the ending, he killed the man with the same red chopsticks, fighting the capitalism, and now he uses the same chopstick to sustain himself... In other words, yeah he opppses the system, but he acknowledges he is still inevitably a part of it. He is a massively successful rapper/idol, he made o lot of money and he profits from the system all the while being very much aware of its pitfalls.

Thanks for your thoughts on K-pop, BTS and hip-hop… I am 50 years old and have been listening to all types of music all my life, mostly rock and metal. BTS made me listen to hip hop as well. Yes, there are a lot of rappers in standard K-pop groups, but I've only seen such a connection to the history and ideas of hip-hop as a genre in BTS's art. RM, Suga and J Hope all rap differently and that's the good thing...everyone affects me in a different way. They are amazing!

This is just a recommendation but if you wanted something recent and personality related, Suga was interviewed by RM about his album 'D-day' on Suchwita. Its essentially Suga's show where he interviews guests over some drinks and food but since Suga can't really interview himself, he brought on RM to host the show for that episode. He (Suga) has interviewed other idols and BTS members too along with some other famous Korean celebrities on the show. Link- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j76iaZCnveC3on0.html

To. finishing the trilogy! Just one more video and you would have had the full Agust D storyline! 😂😂😂 Even if it wasnt connected to the story I would have wished you to see Amygdala. It's such a different vibe from the ones you picked, but still so so ao Agust D. Just Raw. Everything he does is Raw. I love him so much 😢
@ihniwiad
@ihniwiad 11 ай бұрын
The simplest way I've viewed the dual AugustDs in the videos is him killing off the older, problematic person to keep growing as a human. Be it anger, greed, he is constantly trying to self-improve. And Suga/AgustD is known to discuss capitalism issues the most out of the guys, but you'll find them more on b-sides, including a great collab with RM called "Strange". The trilogy ends with Amygdala, but it is a complex story that is much larger than those 3 MVs, and you'd need to understand some of the other songs, especially "The Last" and even "Give it to Me" (where you'll see part 2 of 2016 Angry AgustD who is the pre-cursor to the Daechwita angry King) to truly start to understand the whole mix of Yoongi, SUGA and AgustD, and his growth from an angry and hurt 21-22 year old who first decided he wanted to create AgustD to get out some of his anger and frustration to becoming a pretty calm 30 year old who has used these albums to overcome some of his trauma. Because at the center of this is a young guy working through what is going on in his head.

Very well said 💯! We indeed could just enjoy the music(the rap) without diving deep into the lyrics, the story of the song, and the MVs. But to understand the whole story behind the making of it and the messages he tries to get across telling his journey and growth as a Person as well as talking about societal issues is something too good to miss out on.

as you said 'sticking to roots' yes facts after they debut the best thing about being from a small unknown company was that they had freedom with how they make their music they experimented as much as they wanted to and poured out everythingin their minds into lyrics of their songs the company or them either of em didn't relly have that reputation that they could loose even if they talked about sensitive stuff which has never been common in industry as they went by it they got enough hate and criticism but a lot of ppl actually liked it they liked the rawness of their music they could relate to it....this is what made bts diffirent and one of the main reasons why so many ppl love bts and feel a diffirent kind of connection with them but the best part is that as they grew in popularity and expanded globally they only improved never did they ever forgot where they came from and what they were initially they don't feel embarassed by it specially suga and they still are the same with their music even if they have made their company one of the most profitable and well known companies in south korea......that's something rare coz most musician change their music style as per preferences....

One thing I'll say, when it comes to BTS you can just do yourself a HUGE favor and throw out everything you think you know out the window when it comes to these unspoken rules regarding their music and actions. BTS are true artists, every single one of them. Sure, they are kpop idols, but they don't follow standards, they never have, they set the standards for themselves. They have a true passion for their art, songs like Ddaeng Am I Wrong Spring Day (with the MV) MIC DROP All the BTS cyphers (1-4) Idol are all VERY charged with deep meanings (honestly I could just sit here and type out basically their entire discography, but these were the ones that popped into my mind rn) , Idol specially gives me chills whenever they perform live...in award shows....on the stage of the industry that rejected them for YEARS opening with the lyrics "You can call me artist You can call me idol Or you can call me anything else I don’t care I’m proud of it I’m free No more irony Because I’ve been me (myself) all the time". Also, welcome to the neverending debate of "is BTS music = kpop?" debate.

Spring Day is arguably their most well known song within Korea, and has been charting for 6 years. It's not obviously addressing anything controversial, and there are also great explain vids, but it confronts government corruption and a ferry tragedy that happened where over 300 (mostly school children) drowned in an accident that gov attempted to hush up. BTS has never outright said this is what it's about, the gov even went as far as to black list artists who spoke out the families involved.

The comparison thing... yes, most groups fanbases get a tad overly protective a lot of the time... for me, the underlying main point between the groups is that they are actually all friends or at least acquaintances... they help each other out and collaborate a fair bit ... you only have to look at some of the dance challenges around the net, in my opinion, none of the groups would be the slightest bit happy if the fandoms were going at each other .... there will always be 'favourites'.. but you will never hear any of your favourites putting another artist down... they all came up through similar hardships (BTS I agree copped it worse than most being with such a small company and having the rap line )... so they're nothing but supportive of each other.. and so should the fanbases be.... Just my opinion of course...Also, your take on the rapline being Hip Hop who just happen to be in a Kpop group...that is exactly what they were attempting to explain back in the beginning.. they wanted to bring the hiphop feel into whatever music they wrote.. and they did... now, the haters (most of them) get it... but it took a lot of grief for RM and Yoongi to get that point across when they first debuted... Thank heaven they just stuck at it and remained true to themselves... we now have 10 yrs worth of classics that spread across all genres...

Thanks for the reaction! Actually there are many things that can be said xD. Something that is very interesting regarding Daechwita is that actually, SUGA does come from the royal lineage of Korea, I mean, literally the Min surname corresponds to that special lineage, there are many Parks and so on because the nobles "sold" their surnames to the people of the village, but the Min surname is unique. That only makes more interesting the whole debate of that song and the symbolism of the video, which can have many meanings as he himself said. On the side of Haegeum, it is important to know that even though in the English translation in the sub it is not so well understood, Haegeum has two meanings, it is an instrument by itself and at the same time "to liberate the forbidden" or "to lift bans". This is what the video and the lyrics talk about, emphasizing that freedom is one thing and debauchery (or self-indulgence) is another, and that it is very important to understand this. Actually, all BTS since their first songs were distinguished for talking about taboo topics or topics ignored by society, youth issues and especially about what happens in Korea and Asia (like No More Dream, N.O., Baepsae/Silver spoon, etc), but SUGA especially was very open and always talked about his disagreement with many things, from the pressure to get grades and study to be considered "someone", to meet standards, social pressure, emotional problems, etc. A track where you can see how he talk about this, is an Agust D solo like "So far away" or "Strange" ft RM. Yoongi always talks about situations or things he has experienced (and yes he has been through a lot in his life, really, really a lot). His music and lyrics are sincere, real, and always, even though they may seem a bit strong, they always make you feel stronger, more capable to face everything that comes your way and never give up.

Another comment, BTS does have some more poppy songs, even songs that might feel more 'kpop', but that's something I like about them, one moment they're rapping over hard beats about cancel culture and baseless hate, the next they are crooning about dimples in pure pop, and then V is singing RnB mixed with symbolic poetry. They have become bigger than any genre, which allows them to create sounds I've never heard before and shake things up constantly, but they are still such talented artists that the mix of genres doesn't hinder them. They'll never lose their love for hiphop but their influences have become broader over time.

There's an interview he did recently with IU on her YT channel Palette where he said after Daechwita he received scripts but doesn't think his looks are actor worthy and turned them down and only plans to focus on music. I mean yes! Continue with your music olease...but give us that drama too. The world deserves to see this man act!

if you want a song by him that gets really deep about mental health and breaks that kpop stereotype of not talking about sensitive topics, I can not recommend Amygdala enough. (It does have a tw/cw on it due to self harm/suicidal themes pre warning). It’s also the third part of his mv trilogy of daechwita, haegum, and amygdala!

BTW a lot of ppl like to use the terms bias and bias wrecker, to avoid these exact type of petty fights abt who is better. So you'd say that Suga is prob your BTS bias and RM maybe your bias wrecker. Ofc none of it is like set in stone or anything like that and the more you learn abt members and their sounds the more likely your bias will gonna change over time. I'll forever keep switch bias wreckers, I've prob gonna through all of them at this point. RM remains my bias though, his lyrics are poems in its purest form, he can very well do fast and aggressive rap (his song "joke" was a response to those who claimed he couldn't, and the entire thing is brilliant and hilarious) but a lot of times he prefers to explores different styles, his latest album Indigo is an absolute masterpiece. J-Hope is also SICK You should def check out the conclusion to the Suga trilogy ("Daechwita" & "Haegeum" & ***"Amygdala"***) And BTS it self has countless hiphop tracks that stray (no pun intended) from the norm of k-pop hiphop ig....it's a weird way of saying it but you get the point. I think you'd really like "hiphop lover"

I really enjoyed your reaction! Actually, BTS has always talked about systemic issues, in fact, their debut song "No More Dream" talks about the societal expectations of adolescents and how adults force "dreams" upon them. Another of their first songs, N.O, criticizes the harsh Korean educational system and questions it. Them being from such a small company talking about such taboo topics (specially in South Korea) since the very beginning, was quite a risky move. But they did it anyways Some of the more "political" or "taboo" songs they've made, Am I Wrong and Spring Day, got a lot of backlash from the South Korean Government. I've heard that at the time these songs were released, they were put on a Government Blacklist along with other artists that criticized the government (not 100% sure on this or the source, but it wouldn't surprise me) The reason why they were able to speak about such uncommon topics in the kpop industry is because they came from a small label. The CEO, Hitman Bang, always told the boys that whatever they did their music had to be real to them, their stories and experiences. As you have said, now that they are the biggest group in the world, they don't receive that type of backlash anymore. But the fact that they were like this from the very beginning will always make me so proud to be their fan.

This young man is my ult in kpop, scratch that,in everything person-wise 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 Also do not mind anyone angry at you for that, it's natural to do that. You're not comparing per se at least not for pitting one against the other but because Straykids is your reference. Now with me it was the other way around, I've been Army for about 7 years didn't even look at any other groups for almost 4 years, so when I did I found that I always refer back to what I know (BTS). It's natural, don't feel bad about it 💜

i think a lot of the hiphop vibe you feel has to do with the fact that they came from the underground scene and actually took the time and effort to completely understand and immerse themselves in the culture rather than treating it as just another genre at their disposal. bts has also been swearing in their songs from the very beginning (even more so back then than they do now) once you go through all the rappers i'd heavily recommend the cyphers 1-4 they did together (there's a lyric by suga in pt. 3 i think you might like 😏) as well as UGH and TEAR. i completely understand your need to compare artists and people get sensitive about it because a lot of the times it's done very disrespectfully or it's comparing western artists to kpop artists who aren't even on the same level. however, the way you compare them is literally just your observations and it's obviously not done to be malicious so i've no idea why people get angry with you. the two guys fighting in daechwita are actually jin and jungkook 😭 all of the things you've mentioned about their creativity and the way their music sounds is 100% correct. there's a reason why a lot of armys don't consider bts as kpop and feel like they completely rose above it all. they're artists first, everything else second. they've never been scared to talk about taboo topics in kpop (both as a group and solo), they say what they mean and they don't hold back. i've been listening to kpop since 2014 and have yet to see a mainstream kpop group actively talk about the topics they do at that consistency. him killing himself is most easily described as him killing or accepting parts of himself (as you've said) he doesn't necessarily like or parts of himself and his past that are hard to accept. maybe you'd like to listen to his song SHADOW (interlude to MOTS:7 album) where he talks more about this distinction on a more psychological level (guided by the theories set by a psychologist Carl Jung) anyways, have fun with this journey and ignore the haters. enjoy it!

Suga use this name when he sing with group BTS. Suga comes from shooting guard, the position he played in high school basketball. Agust-D (alter ego) is use when he does his mixtape or solo song because it's too explicit he don't want to connect that with BTS. Agust-D is Suga spelled backwards and the "TD" stand for his home town "Town Daegu"

I would say this are lighter songs bc they have MVs but songs on his albums are so much more hitting into people, industry, media, world, capitalizm, etc. Plus a lot of songs are heavy on mental health topic, I would say he choose songs for promotion/album titles more friendly but still hitting haha and rest is for people that go and listen to rest of his music, bc they really want to know him. Bc He is a person that you get to know really well bc of hisusic, he is always honest and open about every topic. He is my favorite rapper in 🌍 With nuddle shop I would say cyrcle of live, one time You kill someone with chopstick and next you eat using them. Yoongi always hold himself very high, to stay with his feets on ground and not to fly in fis head... Hmm Lives for this songs are really something.

You watched Taylor's introduction, so you should know that RM and Suga both came from underground Hiphop before they joined Bighit company. Suga is the BTS stage name for Min Yoongi, Agust D is the name he uses for his solo activities outside BTS. Swearing is for real, but this isn't BTS it's his personal stuff, self produced, self financed. You are really going to be amazed at the finance he laid out on the second track, Daechwita, which he then gifted to his fans. People can get upset about you comparing BTS artists to other Kpop artists because in many cases those other people are trying to be BTS. Fight in the background is actually Jin and Jungkook, bandmates. When BTS was started by their founder Bang Si Hyuk he wanted a group that would sing about all those issues, mental health, problems in society etc. He encouraged the group to write about those issues and their own experiences. The Big Hit motto at that time was Music and Artists for Healing. Likewise their name Bangtan Sonyeongtan means Bulletproof Boyscouts, he wanted to let them sing about the issues that hammer down the youth of Korea.

BTS ia actually talk about things like this since their debut. In their debut song No More Dream, they challenge their generation against the Korean traditions/cultures way of thinking. Their song N.O also in 2013, their talk against the Korean education system. And remember. they were still teens at that time except Jin was 20 years old at that time. Different from how other Kpop industry run, BTS came from a very small industry that was struggle financially and almost bankrupt. Bang PD (the boss of BigHit) also had a different mindset and he gave freedom to BTS members in their art. They were all involve in their art since beginning until now. About Haegeum, haegeum has 2 meanings. 1. as traditional music instrument which you get from google. 2. freeing what is forbidden (at 1:36 in MV). The last scene where he is back to the noodle shop, you see he eats using the same chopsticks. The same chopsticks, he/we can use it for destruction or nourishment, to destroy or to build,... 💜

In the 3rd one to me this is the story i get from the video. This is the king and Agust D from Daechwita reincarnated to the present. The king is again gained power being a high ranking corrupt police officer (as he is leaving the police station the other cops solute him indicating high rank) But at the end Agust D once again out smarted the cop by laying a trap by getting the king's men to turn on him/by replacing them with his own men. It could also be that he was an undercover/rogue cop because he got a lift in a cop car in the end. So it could be a metaphor for the continued fight against his inner self or maybe social problems.

RM (Rap Monster) and Suga were both rising Korean underground rappers before being hired as trainees as BigHit. RM was selected first, and the intention was to create a hip-hop idol boy band around him. Suga was originally hired at BigHit with the intention of him writing and producing songs! But they lied and told him to join RM as a trainee, since both were great at writing lyrics, and that he wouldn't have to dance 😂😂😂😂 JHope was a renowned street dancer, and learned to rap as a trainee!!! That's the rap line of BTS. The rest is history!!!!!
