Tropical storm warning issued for parts of Texas

A possible tropical storm is building in the Gulf of Mexico and is already causing powerful winds and strong currents along the South Texas coast. A Tropical Storm Warning was issued for the coast, as far north as the San Luis Pass. CBS News' Dave Malkoff is in Corpus Christi with more.

This goes good with the religious meme of how everyone thanks god for survival. Well, my whole house is gone, but I lived thru the grace of god. Always love hearing that, because while they aren't bright enough to consider it, this basically means that you believe anyone who dies in a storm had it coming. Children too. No prob, as long as you lived, it was probably god.

I came here to post something like this. How unbelievably foolish do you have to be to put an RV park there, and how ASTRONOMICALLY INSANE do you have to be to choose to park an RV there?? It’s bad enough already being incredibly hot and humid all the time, but with the risk of flood and hurricane?? Totally insane.

I've lived in both places and they'll be fine. The storm's expected to go into Mexico, bringing relief to far SW TX and rain will sweep north & east. WA is beautiful & I loved living there, but work calls.

Nope--that actual name is a "hurricane" since it occurs in the Atlantic Ocean (which the Gulf is a part of). "Cyclones" happen in the Indian Ocean.

Tropical cyclone is the scientific name for all of these systems. PTC means it hasn’t developed the low pressure, wind speed, and organization to develop into a tropical storm but it has everything it needs to do so. For instance, a storm system with exactly the same characteristics but moving into cool water wouldn’t be a PTC.
