Aeoniums are easy to grow succulents that can be effortlessly propagated and grown from cuttings. The best time of the year grow Aeoniums from cuttings is Spring and Autumn as the cooler weather combined with longer daylight hours encourages growth in these plants. Growing Aeoniums from cuttings Is simple if you follow this simple ‘how to’ guide. Aeoniums are very low maintenance plants that survive drought, full sun, partial shade and strong winds. Aeoniums can be grown from cuttings by following these steps:
1- Select a healthy stock Aeonium plant that has plenty of material that can be used for growing cuttings. Ensure that your Aeonium is a species that branches out when pruned.
2- Using a clean pair of secateurs or hand pruners, cut a rosette off of your main plant with some stem attached to It.
3- If you wish to let your Aeonium cutting callous over then leave your cutting on a dry surface to heal for 2-3 days. However, this Is not essential.
4- Mix 1 part sand/perlite/grit with 1 part multi-purpose compost. A free draining potting mix will ensure that your Aeonium will not rot while growing lots of new healthy roots.
5- Stick your Aeonium cutting in to your potting mix and firm the compost well around them stem.
6- Water your cuttings and in 2-4 weeks your should see new signs of growth as a sign that healthy new roots have formed.

Great video. I don't let them callus over either and I've never had a problem. Also, I just use dirt from my backyard lol. It's low quality dirt in my opinion(turns to mud when wet, and rock hard when completely dry, doesn't drain well at all) but I've NEVER had a problem with them. I got that nice California coastal weather, so maybe that has something to do with it. :D

@@ruthy37 I water them right away. You don’t need too much water tho. The water will stimulate the stem part to start sprouting roots. But even if you waited a few days or weeks, it should be ok.

Hello, Thanks so much for the video, very clear and easy to follow instructions. I have an Aeonium that I inherited but it is currently one very long stem with a rosette at the end. I would like to propagate it but how can I tell if it is a branching variety, as you mention in your video? From looking online it appears to be a type of Aeonium arboretum, with a dark purple rosette. Thank you

I'm terrified of giving mine root rot, I was thinking I should water once every 2 weeks at the moment (August, in the UK) - I'm amazed to hear you water yours so much arghh I think the stress of trying not to kill these things is going to drive me insane. /new to keeping plants

Don’t water at a specific number of days. Their needs change throughout the year. Test the soil, with a moisture meter if possible. If not, push your finger deep into the dirt. Only water if it’s dry all the way down.

Not all species branch, so check that the one you have is a branching variety. If it is, just remove the top rosette like in this video and it will produce side branches.
2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you just mentioned the fleshy type of aeoniums, but not the woody ones, like the aeonium haworthii l, for example. They don't grow from a cut stem... I can't find any where information about the woody varieties and how to force branching if a stem is cut. It only grows if the tip is still green, or if it has still any leaves on it. Otherwise, it never grows new shoots. I tried for years many things, but those stems always dry out
