As a former member of the Foreign Legion I have no problem with this dude selling his stories, even deserters have a tale to tell. He can badmouth, belittle and degrade the Legion if he so desires and I still have no problem because he is a deserter, a man who has shown himself to be without honor; a man who cannot be taken at his word. What I DO have a problem with is this dude's reason for his desertion. I heard him say that his youtube videos were saving lives and that the Legion interfered with him doing God's work of saving lives. That's a new reason for desertion.....I did it to do God's work. So, let God work with him on that, but I am shocked at how accepting his fan base is concerning his lack of honor and commitment to his word. If they want to idolize a USNavy SEAL, I would recommend Drago, a man of honor. LPN

I agree with you I also serve in the legion. I was discharge for medical problems after 3 years in service and I got my CBC. I still regret not being able to finish my 5 years contract. and as you say this guy is selling life advice without mentioning his lack of commitment. The Legion is a really challenging place specially in the psychological aspect don't blame him for being a deserter but for trying to capitalize on it. When you're a Legionnaire you don't talk shit about the legion with the public you share it with yours comrades.

I'm glad to see an American who went into the Foreign Legion talk in detail about it. Most of the Time it's Germans, French (of course), Poles, Hungarians, Russians etc. who write Books or in detail talk about it. Especially interesting in this Case because he was a Navy Seal before that, so interesting to hear his Comparisons and Differences. I think Taylor Cavanaugh is one of the most interesting Persons that has been online of late. My only problem with the story is how he left the Legion. He deserted the Legion with almost 8 months of service left. So he is kicked out of the U.S. Navy, Eventually joins the legion and finds what he needs for the time. The Legion helped save him and doesn't get kicked out, but chooses to desert. I understand what it was over, as I listened to one of the other Podcasts where Taylor explained why he went AWOL from the Legion. Had he gotten out of the Legion honorably his story would be absolutely incredible. What the story says now is Taylor found trouble in both of his military services to the U.S. and France.

I’m glad he asked him that question about “closed doors”! Like if he was born that way to never see a closed door as the end or if it came from hard work and determination! I’ve always been like that. At a young age I actually thought it was my charm that opened some of these doors, like no one could deny me requests! Perhaps sometimes it was I guess. But then it was brought to my attention how if and when I’m turned away and out of ideas or answers I would always ask, “what should I do”! Or “then how do I get in there”, “what would you do if you were me”! Thing of that sort! I did this subconsciously too! But I also have the attitude that regardless, things will be alright. I’ll land on my feet and if I don’t then I’ll pick myself up and walk that shit off!

Really great to hear this story, very glad things worked out for you and that you were willing to go the extra mile to achieve your goals, especially since the main one was to serve your country! I would like to say the beginning of your story is very similar to my earlier life, except when I tried to enlist, I too was also on probation! I ended up taking a diversionary deal (which I didn't know would take 5 yrs.) to expunge my record, only to find out that I had to wait until it was over to enlist! Unfortunately, during my wait I got in a little trouble and they took my diversion away, so was unable to enlist, really wish I would have known of going to the FFL! Definitely think that would have changed my life, I'm from a military family and so I got very depressed when I couldn't serve, so I just said screw it and got in more trouble! I have gotten my life mostly back on track now and am doing alright, I just wanted to share that, so you know that meant a lot to me and I hope other young guys like us who have had rough childhoods see this and know there is always a way, don't give up like I did, I still regret it! Thanks for serving and sharing!

I don’t know. I think it’s curious that he continuously got in trouble with the law by doing really dumb things. He practically threw away his career in the seals by getting into a dumb bar fight. This guy is making the youtube rounds having done several interviews lately. I was very disappointed that he ended up deserting from the Legion in the end. He tells the story on another video on Soft White Underbelly. What really bothered me is that he had no remorse deserting. He just laughed it off by saying France wasn't his country anyway, and he didn't want to face his punishment for not complying with an order. He will still clearly justify doing whatever he wants, whenever he wants. The interviewer didn't even press him on it either.

Taylor is a very controversial figure to me. I’ve watched numerous podcasts with him and on him. He seems to have accomplished a lot but at the same time he never finishes what he starts. Even at this point in his life he refused to finish out his FFL contract because they wanted him to stop posting on social media. He couldn’t just hold for a few months. But instead he gave them the finger and left. He seems like the guy that goes after what he wants but when things don’t go his way he’s nothing but excuses and justifications and now he’s making a living from that. My PERSONAL, conclusion is he’s the person/example of what not to become. Alright everyone, shit away on me.

I was told that my grandfather was in the French foreign legion before coming to the states in the 50 s. I was around him several years before he died. I have looked everywhere for information. Only to run into dead ins.

Simply write the BALE in Aubagne and include his matriculation number. The Legion maintains extensive records.

I don’t think that anyone has asked, “Did’e see any action” when with the teams & with the Legion; Just because you’re deployed doesn’t mean you see action.

I listened to most of an interview with him on another podcast, and I don’t remember him mentioning much about combat. His whole life story seems to be petty crimes and then eventually getting into the seals and more dumb bar fights and then leaving for the French foreign Legion, and then getting out of that too.

I dropped put of high school at age 17 left my parents home because cause I thought my homies where gonna help I feel into drugs for the next 2 years it became an everyday thing I was living in side my truck for 4 months and when I ran out of drugs money that's when everything hit me I realized how much I actually fucked up the homies I called homies turned there back on me and after I realized all that I quit my drug addiction it wasn't easy but I did it helped my self out and felt way better than before and on 2/19/2024 I went into a US Navy recruiters office and took a practice asvab test I wasn't far from the score I wanted but I know I could do better ima be back in 2 months a get that score. If you truly believe in yourself you can do nothing is impossible.

Used to hear stories about recruitment practices when the Vietnam war was going on, you either go to jail or go into the military! This guy was the modern day poster boy for shit like this, he has trouble written all over his face, but when you head straight on into combat, you definitely want a Cavanaugh right theee with you…!
