Even after the dismissal of Bloodraven, this would only prove to be the first of many challenges King Aegon V Targaryen would face at the stark of his rule. A long an bitter winter was ravishing Westeros for years with stravtion and hunger in the north becoming a growing issue with the only soloution taking food from people in the south who too were facing the prospect of starvation. This would only deepen the fears of many of King Aegon's doubters with many lords angered at the King's request. Plus there was the looming threat of Aegor Rivers lunching a 4th Blackfyre Rebellion while Westeros and King Aegon was were week.

One of the biggest warning signs of the fact that his reign would be troubled is how much the nobles feared giving him the crown. His travels with Duncan had definitely made him a better man but they may have made him a less successful king.

and even that is debatable since the reforms he was attempting would have likely benefited the kingdom as a whole. The problem was these came at the expense of the nobility's power, thus they resisted. Egg was not enough of a political chessmaster to manipulate the nobles into going along with it, and lacked the power (dragons) to force them to do so. Remember, Jaehaerys also introduced a bunch of reforms that reduced the power the nobility, church, etc had over the people, and also granted for rights to the commoners. The difference between him and Egg was that Jaehaerys had dragons and thus none of the lords could really refuse.

MAN I hate that Egg went out the way he went out, I know it’s narratively satisfying and makes for a good story but I love his character and it’s so hard to imagine lil Egg losing it all over dragons, just like so many Targaryens before him 😭

summerhall is something i desperately want answers to given how much i love Egg's character. There just seems to be this huge leap from when we last see him in the mystery knight and where lore catches up with him

There must have been those at court and throughout the realm who were concerned about the relationship between Aegon and Duncan. Favourites have a troubled history in the real world, and no doubt in the fictional one, too. There must of been those who thought that Aegon's reign would in reality be Duncan's reign and it wouldn't surprise me if some saw their strong relationship as something more, as it was with Daeron I and his knights.

@@X525Crossfire No, I meant Daeron I. If you look at biographies of him he was very close to several knights and Martin has changed it so he was unmarried and childless when he died. It hasn't been confirmed, but my overall point about kings and their favourites being seen as something more still stands. And royal favourite is a threat especially if they come from lowly stars as all my aristocratic friends tell me.

1st to take the Black for House Blackfyre🗡 Woooo King Daemon Blackfyre the 3rd!!!! I still do think Egg could have worked something out with Prince Aenys Blackfyre could have even prevented King Daemon Blackfyre the 3rd's attempt but Bloodraven ruined it.

I would agree a smart thing to do would have been to restore House Blackfyre and the exiled lords who agreed to peace to some reduced land and titles in Westeros and maybe arrange a match between a woman of the Blackfyre line and Aegon’s heir. Heck maybe even name Aenys to the small council since he seemed to have a decent head on his shoulders.

@kevinneutzling8267 Exactly even if there was a good number who didn't accept, probably rallying around Bittersteel and / or any Blackfyre that refused. It would still weaken the golden company and possibly provide a base of support for Egg.
