Troubleshooting Toyota Highlander Tailgate, Hatch not working.

Having trouble getting your power tailgate, power hatch to open on your Toyota Highlander? Try these tips before calling your local dealer.
Check to ensure the rear tailgate window has not been unlocked and is open.
The power hatch is disabled when the window is unlocked.
Also, there is a button to disable the power hatch tailgate function inside the glove box to the left side.
Maple Toyota is located in Vaughan next to Canada's Wonderland.

You are a good man!! You’re the ONLY person who mentioned the trunk button in the glove compartment area. I had just replaced the cabin air filter and must have inadvertently pressed the trunk button! I literally was just going to call the local Toyota service dealer for an appointment. You saved me time and money. Thank you!!!

My God man! You just saved me a trip to the dealer. And I hate going to my dealer. That funny little button in the glove compartment area was completely unknown to me. I changed my cabin filter the other day, and I must’ve bumped it. Once again thank you.

You are the best I resolved the lift gate problem just by turning on button on glove compartment and work back.what really happened was that I was replacing cabin filter and by accident I touched the button and got off.Thanks👍🏽

I did the same thing, changed cabin filter and didn’t realize I hit the button. Also I changed my battery the next day and issue with the Memory Savor and thought it was the problem. Saved me a trip to the dealership!

I have a 2019 Highlander. To haul my Paddleboard I opened the back window, and using a screwdriver, clicked over the lock into locked position to stop the hazard beeping while driving. Worked like a charm! Problem is, now I can’t get it to go back to unlock to be able to close the window, and manually clicking lock/unlock doesn’t seem to work either. Any ideas?

There is a way to reset it to factory default, it can be set to not open all the way up for shorter operators who cannot reach the truck close button

My highlander only has the window opener on the remote. There is no button in the glove box. There also is no button to the left of the steering wheel on the control panel. Any ideas how I can get it opened. I can open the window but not the rear door.
