Trout Fishing Oregon's Union Creek

Oregon's Cascade Range is littered with lakes, rivers and streams stocked with trout by the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife. Few, however, are as perfect for family-friendly trout fishing as Union Creek. Nestled in a high use camping area and only feet from the Upper Rogue River, Union is stocked weekly by the ODFW from Memorial Day to Labor Day and provides campers and anglers with excellent public access and ideal water conditions for rainbow trout. Armed with Pautzke's Fire Bait we caught and released dozens of rainbows in two short hours while filming this episode of Pautzke Outdoors.

You appear to be concerned about the health of the fish you release -- good thing! It's best to wet your hand before handling the fish; otherwise you might remove some of their protective slime and make them vulnerable to infection. Thanks for the video!

Salmon will hit really well on the FireBait along the coastal inlets in early spring runs...love the stuff...!!!

Well, most streams/creeks in oregon don't allow use of bait and haven't for years, unless that particular stream/creek allows it for that particular year. Hopefully bait was legal on that creek when yall filmed this. Also ODFW has an interesting definition of what is an artificial fly/lure and what is bait. Under their rules, a hard bead is a lure, a soft bead set up the exact same way is bait, because the soft bead is a "soft Molded plastic, considered bait."

Great video! Thanks for showing some cool spots to take the kids! This is what some need to keep their attention! By the way, fish are not immortal, they eventually die, so if it’s on the end of my rod then it’s dinner time. No shame in eating fish folks.

Garlic wildfire is my favorite fire bait. I'm going to Burney to see family in four days. I'm going to fish Burney Creek. Try it out with the fire bait

Loved the video! Can you purchase a day pass for the campground? Can you share some of the best specific places along union creek for trout? Also are there any flies or nymphs you would recommend for union creek?

Walk in access is free. We are bait guys so we wouldn't be the right ones to ask about flies. Have a good time.

Apologies for the late response, but out there I've found the olive elk hair caddis works wonders in that area! Elk hair's are the rooster tails of flyfishing in my opinion. If nothing is working throw one of them out there and you're guaranteed a bite

I want to catch rainbow and brown trout in a medium sized creek, should I use the natural deluxe, orange deluxe, or yellow jacket eggs. Or should I just use worms

Hilarious - Mark, please do your homework before making statements like this. This is a put and take fishery. And, we aren't sure what Power Bait is?

Pautzke Bait Actually only part of it is put and take. Read your regs- regardless the issue with bait should you hook a juvenile steelhead is it is usual fatal to the fish even when released. Primarily because they take it so deeply. Now I will admit Power Bait only lines the shelves of most stores - BiMart, Cabellas etc, but if you seriously don’t know what is here’s a link. Bait fishing. If you do this keep all you catch cuz they will just die if ya let them go. Do try lures and flies too.

@@TeamPautzke It is also the opinion of the Oregon Department of fish and Wildlife. This dept. discusses the use of bait and the mortality of trout when fished for with bait. This discussion can be found in the State fishing regulations. Guess that is their opinion. Do speak with fisheries biologists and get their opinion as well. My statement was not an opinion, and entitlement is not an issue. I will run your statement by my colleagues.
