Wow amazing tip. I haven't picked light meter yet.. only sekonic available on amazon. How to meter if your subject is moving like toddler does not stay still .. can be used without subject

Just set the child where you want them and put the meter where there face is and point the white dome towards your light. If the child crawls away during this process it's ok as long as the light meter is still in the same spot. After that you only need to meter again if you move your light or your subject moves substantially. This method will keep you in the ballpark of proper exposure because let's face it kids move around a lot. You can't expect every shot to be perfectly exposed and you certainly shouldn't re meter every time the child moves. Just use the meter to get in the first shot perfect and then do subtle corrections in editing after.

I wish I had as much room as you do.. My room is so small I have trouble with a 50mm lens.

Ohhhhh! I love problem solving!!!! TELL ME MORE! How big is your room? What lenses do you own? What size backgrounds do you use? Do you use flash or natural light. There has got to be something we can do.

@@troutmanphoto I recently bought the Cannon R10 and the 150mm, I have a sigma that also works with it. I put white paneling up . I also use sheer curtains that hang down to the floor. So I have a good size wall. I have greyish flooring down but for the cake smash I will be using a vinyl white down so I can clean it easier. I have continuous lighting but it is a least 15 years old. One of the units is blowing out bulbs so I ordered a new set coming this week. As far as the size it is about 6 ft from the wall to my lights. I cannot get back much more than that if I do I see the light legs in the frame. It is a low celling also . I finally got the White balance better when I bought new bulbs it told me the K is 3200 so I just typed that in. Now the lightbulbs I just bought keep blowing out UGH.

@@troutmanphoto approximately yes. I do have a little wiggle room. But with the light stands right there it is hard. ;)
