It was sad to watch his injury plagued years though, and one always had the feeling that he was only performing at half his potential because of the accumulated damage to his body. The ankle injury was a heart breaker.

As a Toronto resident and big Jays fan , when I first heard we got him I was so excited and knew that if he could stay healthy he would help us bring that World Series title back . Then the moment came when he got injured and i knew it was over for him immediately . I'm a die hard Rockies fan through and through. Tulo was truly a unique and special player. Going to games and watching him play was amazing. It was sad to see him leave to the Jays the way he did. But injury after injury really was his downfall. If it wasn't for the injuries, he would be the best shortstop in baseball history without a doubt. He would be talked about in the circle of greats like Derek Jeter. If Rockies knew how to get some pitchers and a solid bullpen, players like Tulo would get the recognition they deserve. Extremely talented player for a subpar organization that has made bad move after bad move. I hope this isn't the same foreshadow future for Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon...

When Tulo came To Toronto, we all seen him as the star he was, and knew that trade was the catalyst to send the jays into serious contention, and it did. Although he was only here for a short time he was beloved, and forever will be, and is now part of the fabric of the history of the team. Toronto loved, loves and will always love Troy Tulowitzki!!!!!

Injuries from stepping on another player's foot are fairly common. To help prevent injruy to players either being stepped on (spiked) or players turning ankles by stepping on the 1st baseman's foot, the league needs to either adopt the little league odea of 2 bags, one for the runner and one for the 1st baseman OR elongate the 1st base bag horizontally somewhat to keep the 1st baseman's foot out of the running lane. It can be done and will prevent unnecessary injuries without greatly impacting the game.

Unfortunately the guy just couldn't stay healthy. He was a fantasy gold mine when he was good.

I know this is old but Tulo will always be a star to me. During a hitting slump in high school I watched breakdowns on how Tulo fixed his swing and it helped immensely. Wish we could’ve seen more from him.

Shawon Dunston and Troy Tulowitzki had the strongest arms I've ever seen at the shortstop position. As a Rockie fan, I'm grateful for Tulo as he helped the Rockies make their only World Series so far in 2007.

Dawson - I want to share a story that impressed me about Tulo. In 2007, Tulo's first full season in the majors, when the Rockies were battling the Dodgers trying to tie the Padres for the wildcard spot, Tulo was up to bat late in the game. He quickly went down 0-2 in the count, but stayed cool enough to earn a walk. I believe he went on to score. For a rookie to battle like he did in an at-bat as important as that was phenomenal. That was the moment it was clear he would be a star.

Tulo is the GOAT. Hopefully he makes it. The guy deserves it for all the hard work he put into the game.

As a Jays fan it was such a delight to see him come to Toronto. Unfortunately it didn't work out but, I loved seeing him in the Jersey regardless.

As someone that watched the Jays a ton in 2015 and 2016, it was a revelation to have Tulo play shortstop after Jose Reyes and his awful defense that season. He wasn't as great as he once was, but he could still make the difficult plays and more importantly for that team, made all the routine plays that you should make that Reyes would screw up. It sucks that he couldn't stay healthy. That 2014 season would have been one for the ages had he not gotten hurt.

He seemed to always be dealing with something when he was on the Jays. So frustrating. You know he had bad luck but part of it has to be how he takes care of his body.

IMO Troy Tulowitzki should be given serious consideration for the hall of Fame. He was one of the best overall shortstops in MLB history. Statistics back that up, but also just form watching him play for all of those years, he was amazing on defense (2 gold gloves @ shortstop) and on offense. He has 225 homers and .290 career BA is really good for a shortstop. His best years were obviously in Colorado, but he helped Toronto get to the postseason 2015 and 2016. He hit clutch homers in both of those postseasons for Toronto as well. I’m not saying he is “first ballot” by any means, but I don’t think he should be dismissed without serious conversation and consideration. I thought the same about Nomar. He was only on the ballot for 2 years before falling off, and I don’t think that is correct. Regardless, Tulo was the shit! Thanks for all the memories.

It's a good reminder that careers that span 15 to 20 years in the big leagues are actually rare. From injuries to declines most players never make it to even 10 years.

I'm a Phillies fan and I remember that 2007 season well. Jimmy Rollins won the MVP and it was between him and Matt Holliday. The Phils ended up losing to the Rockies in the NLDS and I remember thinking very highly of Tulo. Tons of careers have been derailed by injuries and his is among the most regrettable if you ask me.

My favorite tulo moment was in September 2010. He had 15 home runs that month and was on an absolute tear. The Rockies were also on another hot steak to make playoffs. He came up in the ninth with runners on base; a home run would win the game. Unfortunately, he struck out and the game was over. He slammed his bat onto the plate and it split in two, then he took the split handle and whipped it into the dirt right next to home plate. The bat stuck into the ground just like how a javelin sticks into the ground.
