BEFORE YOU BECOME AN OWNER-OPERATOR WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OWNER-OPERATOR VS COMPANY DRIVER IN TRUCKING?
The Pros and Cons of Being a Company Driver vs Owner Operator,
The UGLY Truth Of Company Driver vs Owner Operator.
Company Drivers Pros:
No start-up costs besides getting your CDL.
The money you make is yours. You don't have to reinvest in your truck.
No commitment. If trucking isn't for you, you aren't out of any money.
Better access to benefits and insurance.
Cons:
You make less money. Because the trucking company is taking on the risk, you make less as a company driver.
You have less home time. When you are a company driver you have a little less control of your schedule, meaning you have to be on the road more.
You drive the truck you are given. Now, some companies give you a few options, but you can't do much of anything to customize the truck. Often these company trucks have fewer bells and whistles.
Owner Operators
Pros:
You make more money. Because you are taking on the risk and insurance, you make more than a company driver.
You can make your schedule. When you are a company driver you have a little less control of your schedule. As an owner-operator, you can make your schedule, but you still have to pay the bills, so don't be fooled into thinking you get a lot more time off because in the end, if the truck isn't running, you aren't making money. Unfortunately, bills don't decrease just because the truck is parked.
Cons:
Start-up costs are pretty steep. Often companies will help you get started by leasing you a truck until you can purchase one outright.
You have to find the loads. If you lease onto a trucking company this is not the case, but if you operate completely solo you have to find and book your loads, which can be a full-time job!
The money you make needs to cover all your driving expenses and your take-home pay. No one is writing you a paycheck that is all yours. You have to consider upkeep and running costs when you factor in your pay.
Big commitment. If you decide to get out of trucking and own your truck you could very well lose money getting out of the truck because of their quick depreciation.
More limited access to benefits and insurance. Some trucking companies like K&J Trucking provide options for their owner-operators, but many, if not most, leave you to figure this out for yourself.

Good video again bredda, schooling the people. My 2 cents; Freedom comes with a huge price tag. I made more money as a company driver and the bag was stacking quickly but since an owner operator its more responsibility gross is high net- expenses is lower and the bag has holes lol. Single man with no kids or wife = easy life. Married with kids = struggle My conclusion: Company driver= baby sitting and slave to the system. Local driver= not in this discussion they get to go home every day. Owner operator = slow turning wheel (stop and go) but the vision is that it will level out eventually. Did my research when i started trucking as a company driver with Stevens transport and found out that Landstar was the better trucking comp. out there and i made them my goal. You have to love trucking and UNDERSTAND how things work and take risk as any business to really survive out here as an OTR driver. If i got to do it again it will be OWNER OPERATOR. KEEP TRUCKING

Yes , yes you are sooo correct , its the same way I been a owner/over operator in charter coach bus interstates from 2003 to 2017 was up 3 56 passengers coaches (MONTEGO TOURS & MOTOR COACH LLC ) i can. Relate to all the pain and the corrupt people ,, had fight to get pay fuck up drivers promise to come in leaving 45 passengers on pickup have to farm out work to other individuals faceup bus company that take your $$ and give your costumer bad service, or no show. FUCK UP Machanic service had learn fast to repairing I feel the pain my friend , I always enjoyed operating a Motor Coach through US & Canada since I was 26 years old ,Now I back doing what I enjoy ( operating a Motor Coach))for a company I was A Rental for Hampton Jitney Bus company , Southampton long Island N.Y.,,,,!,,,,!Be safe my friends and May the Holy Sprit continue to guide you....

It’s not easy and everyone takes money from you. The life is not the best and you are just a traveler. You give way more than you receive in trucking.

You’re spot on about the brokers brother. I bought my 2014 670 and a brand new trailer. I’m going step deck to start, I might buy a dry van or a reefer later. Me and a friend of mine are going to get some of that $4-$6 a mile stuff when we can. He’s been trucking since the 90s. We are going to get around those brokers and go directly to the source ;)

Yes you can gross $200k not net lol. As i said a lot of factors are involved. In your case, A good company to lease unto or if you decide to do your own authority, a reliable truck and you willing to put in the work and time on the roads. I dont push for 200k but it is attainable. I have to remember I'm in it for the long haul and my truck is the tool to get me there. I have kids and have to be home everyother weekend (you get the picture) so it cuts in on my revenue. Yes u can bro.

I hear you brother, thats what they told me when i started that there is a lot of money involved but they could not break down actual figures. Troy Starz speak facts so thats the reason i share. As i said there are a lot of factors involved, (New truck, teams, own authority, dedicated route, location, to name a few) for me i live south Florida which is a dead zone so my situation is different. Its a numbers game so do your homework and choose wisely. Bless.
