Truck Bed Fuel Can Holder 2.0: A Better Way to Transport Fuel Cans! (

I hastily built my 1.0 version of the fuel can holder to keep my fuel cans in one place, so they wouldn’t slide all around my trunk bed while I took them to and from the gas station. The holder was only secured with some bungee cords which wasn’t very secure at all. Also, it only had room for my three Diesel cans and no gas cans. It worked, but it wasn’t my ideal design by any means. Version 2.0 is a lot closer to the ideal design for me.

Now that is the best and cheapest fuel can holder I've seen so far. Great job Martin. I got some scrap wood here so I can make one for all my cans to bring to the jobs with the tractors. Thank you! Have a good week! See ya!

That sure beats my fuel can holder which consists of placing the cans all the way to the front of the truck box so they can't slide forward if I have to make a quick stop. Great job Martin.

Hello Martin. I watch and learn from each of your videos. I am up to my whatever in tractors, both diesel and gas. No good method of fuel transport. Been winging it for decades, however now having so many units to play with I will utilize your design. I have no need for a bulk system. Closer to 80 and as of today I can still manage the 5 gal containers. Fuel transfers are becoming more challenging however. Thanks again for the well thought out videos.

Hi Stanley! Glad you find my design helpful to you. Almost 80 and still slinging 5 gallon cans around? I want to be like you when I grow up! For fuel transfer I have been setting the cans between my loader arms and hood and using a siphon hose, but I’m considering getting a battery powered transfer pump with a 10ft hose so I can keep the can on the ground. I’ll do a review video of the one I choose. Thanks for watching!

@@DIYMyWay I bought an inexpensive battery powered pump from Harbor Freight for my wife to gas up the mower (she mowed one time, and that's when I lost "my"mower - lol!), and it's worked great now for many years! (So you may want to look into that one, when you decide to go that route.) We just use the hose that came with it, as we have no need for a 10-footer at this point. For transferring the diesel into my tractor, I use a (again, Harbor Freight) dual direction diesel barrel pump, as I adapted a 55 gallon barrel (that I got free from a friend) to take to the station, instead of using multiple 5 gallon cans. (I understand that diesel can be stored unused for longer than gas can.) I even built a base for it out of a pallet, some scrap lumber, and 4 casters, so I can load and unload it to/from my truck with my pallet forks. That's working great as well!

Martin, I like your improved version, especially after you modified it a bit to lighten the frame weight. I like that good looking Ford F150. Built Ford Tuff! We're still having hot temperatures up here but now the rain is much more frequent (daily). Have a fine week, my friend. Don 👍🏽🤠 8/29/22

Hi Don! Glad you like it. Ah, you’re a Ford guy too! It’s a 2010 and still in perfect condition so it’s hard for me to justify trading it in for a new one. Yep, still hot down here but not as hot as it was a couple of weeks ago. At least now I can work outside without risking heat stroke. 🥵 Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great week too!

That's some really nifty engineering there, Martin! I just run a ratchet strap across the top of my cans, but your system sure is neat! :)
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
Thanks, David! My concern with just using a ratchet strap is the can slipping out from under the strap due to a sudden stop, so the holder plus a ratchet strap gives me peace of mind. Thanks for watching!

Thank you, Joe! You could still make one with different sized compartments for each can. Just size the frame to accommodate the largest one and space and fill in the others with wood scraps to fit the smaller ones. You could make yours out of steel or wood. 😀 Thanks for watching!

My F250 has notches built into the side of the bed that fits 2X dimensional lumber perfectly. I just carry one 2X6 with me that fits between the notches and then install it when i carry my fuel cans. If I have less than a full load of cans I simply run a bungee or short rope thru the can or cans back to the tie down point in the bed. Not as fancy as yours but it works for me plus allows me to use my round safety cans as well as my plastic cans. Thanks for another great video!

Great design, hope you don't mind if I plagiarize with a small modification. I normally only need one or two gas cans, but I also need to transport smaller 2-1/2 gallon containers of chlorine. I'll just tweak the sizes to fit my specific containers. Saw your other responses to a bulk tank and understand, I didn't think it was practical when I started out. As my fleet has grown and I am using more fuel I made a bulk fuel system with an IBC tote and two 55 gallon drums, yellow for off-road diesel and red for ethanol-free gas. But, do what works for you.
@DIYMyWay
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Jim! By all means, modify as needed. I have a fleet of one Diesel tractor and a gasoline mower and tiller, so a bulk tank isn’t warranted yet for me. Sounds like you have a nice solution for your needs. Thanks for watching!

I agree with the comment to get transfer tanks. Ditch those 5 gallon cans. Get a dedicated 58 gallon diesel transfer tank and dedicated non-ethanol gas tank. They sale complete self contain poly tanks on Amazon with the pump. Completely worth the money. I HATE 5 gallon tanks…

I’ve never had algae or water problem with the 5 gallons cans probably because I put an ounce of Howe’s Diesel Treatment in each empty can before I head to the gas station. It gets mixed in really well while I am filling them. Thanks for watching!
