I drive a 9 axle combination unit in New Zealand and would never never of passed that caravan so close to a roundabout. I would of simply followed it through the roundabout allowing both of us plenty of room. Then only then I would of passed if circumstances allowed.

However, the caravan went into the semi trailers lane. So it doesn't matter if the semi went for the roundabout or not. Also, the roundabout is bigger enough for 2 semi trailers to use each lane. I drive trucks and buses. Like you, I would have been cautious about using the roundabout in the inner lane, but I understand why the truckie was upset in the first place. Last night, I had 3 semis trying a stupid stunt in the merge lane, and I held my ground in the car. Also I had a professional semi driver in my car and he wasn't happy with them. I was going to let them pass me by getting into the other lane to get their rego number, but they all slowed down and wouldn't pass me. Idiots.

@@Mav_F I ride a motorcycle. If I was where that truck was and the caravan driver cut the round about like that, I'd be dead. @@Mav_F I absolutely understand your position in this matter and was offering my support of your appraisal. As much as I will hate having to obtain a license to tow a trailer, training, testing and licensing can't come soon enough. Most of these clowns that you see towing 3.5+++ tonnes behind their woefully inadequate vehicles haven't towed a thing since they were 5 and had "my little red cart". Its clear your a wobble box driver and did the truck crush him..no because he had the forstight to not continue through the roundabout. Have you driven through that roundabout? I have, many times. You can safely get 2 b doubles around it without climbing kerbs. Old age and a lack of skill to drive wobble boxes in that manner is no excuse. As far has the truck driver being aggressive, i dont think he was, until he came across this moron. It still amazes me that anyone can hook up a caravan and tow it, there should be legislation put in place that every one who purchases a caravan must undertake a course on how to drive one, not only in a straight line but manoeuvring, turning and reversing just like truck drivers have to. Lets face it there are only a few meters short of a single truck and trailer so a truck licence is warranted.

It's the attitude of truck drivers like these that give the industry a bad name. There is absolutely no need to be so aggressive in a situation like this. The truck driver should have been aware of the roundabout coming up and drove according to the conditions and not be in the inside lane and forced his way through.....and then to say he should have take the other drivers mirror off. It's not as if it was out in the open but in built up area needing a bit more care and attention by the trucking industry. How can they expect respect, when they couldn't care less about other road users.

I understand the difference between a interstater line haulage and local drivers. Local drivers may not deal with a lot of caravans but we deal with road users who don't understand that heavy vehicles need sufficient distance to stop or when turning at a intersection they try to sneak in on the inside and how much room we require to manoeuvre . When we are on motor ways and it gets frustrating at times when there's idiots that enter motorways at 60 kms cant switch lanes it pisses you off.Yeah it gets under your skin at times that's part of the job, but to react like that. Is that the best you clowns can come up with? Spose with your neanderthal mentality, it is and you think it's a compelling argument. Why am I not surprised? By your reckoning, we should just ignore the piss poor and self centered behavior of truck wits and put them on a pedestal because they deliver shit? I think we should pay homage to the miners who get the ore that goes to the steel mill that is used by the guys who build trucks the truckwits use to deliver stuff. If there were no trucks, there would be no truckwits right? And it wasn't some fat gutted, blue singlet wearing moron uneducated whinger that designed your truck either. It was someone who had a brain, worked their arse off studying at university and figured out how to build it to make it as simple and fool proof as possible so it wouldn't be beyond the ability of ignorant clowns like you. How about the geologist who went to university that works for the oil company that discovered the oil hidden in the ground that provides the fuel the demi god truckwits put in their vehicles they flout the law with and use as weapons against other road users and think the world owes them everything? Without them, no fuel, no truckwits. Then again, most things were delivered by horse and wagon just over 100 years ago and the people still got everything delivered and in the stores didn't they? You are too narrow minded and concieted to see anything outside your own tunnel visioned self absorbed world. Maybe you should be thankful for the kid that went to university and makes the drugs that a high percentage of truckwits are PROVEN to abuse? I can see why you are so beligerant against anyone with an education, it's clearly something you are sadly lacking. I am in fact a high school dropout and largely self educated. My mother was killed when I was 10, I moved out of home when I was almost 13 and lived with my grandmother and was at work at 15 . I bought and owned my own house when I was 27 and bought my 2nd one with 50% deposit when I was 30. Never been near a university in my life and certainly haven't had any handouts from my parents. Don't give me your silver spoon shit excuses you neanderthal moronic cretin. It's easy to make shit up and concoct excuses that put the blame on others rather than face up to the cold hard truth you are completely responsible for your own lot in life. You don't need to go to university or have a silver spoon to make something of your yourself. You either get off your arse and do it or you sit round like you obviously have blaming everyone else. Some people may aim higher than a brain dead occupation than being a truck wit. You might be able to kid yourself and even others some like you, but the majority of the world know the truth that you are just one of the sad pathetic loosers in life. The fact you have a chip on your shoulder about others that have made something of themselves and that you haven't achieved what you wanted is just your own frustration at your own miserable failings. If you had half a brain and some sense of responsibility you wouldn't be putting shit on others for being smarter and having achieved so much more than you have or ever will. Your crap and carry on would be laughable if it weren't so far from the truth and made you look so stupid for talking shit you have no idea about. Instead of taking your own lack of achievement out on others here, look up something on the net to educate yourself and expand what ever brain cells you haven't killed with your cheap beer binges with your looser redneck mates. It would do you the world of good as well as sparing everyone else your jealous whining thats really about your frustration with yourself more than anyone else.

Generally speaking the skills amongst caravan drivers is very poor. Obviously there are people that know how to drive whilst towing but they’d definitely be in the minority. I spent several years travelling around Australia towing a caravan & I saw some very ordinary things. After spending my entire working life hosing body parts off our roads I can’t say I find it amusing at all. To be completely fair, driving skills amongst Australian drivers is very low, most drivers here are merely “moving” their vehicle when driving & when an incident happens too often than not a merely passengers in their own vehicles. Sad but true.

As a tradie on the road every day on Australian country highways caravanners piss me off frequently, mostly the ones who sit on 90kph in the hundred zone just so they can save fuel with no regard for the long line of traffic behind them. Frustration builds up. The good ones move over and let everyone else pass, when they can. The assholes don't. And we punish them accordingly. But these truckies took it a bit too far.

It's written in the road code or it was,, i ain't checked last couple decades . It was written that the first vehicle to enter,,, that is get it's bumper bar first into a roundabout,,, has all the rights of way, giving way to the right was also not needed to be observed at roundabouts. Australian drivers however evolved their own unwritten road code of giving way to the vehicles entering from the right and not yielding to vehicles that were first to enter the roundabout .I don't recall that it was written for Aussie code that you had to yield to vehicles on the innermost lane of a roundabout but that's how it was in North America. In Australia however that vehicle is on our right but wouldn't figure into things still anyway. I realise my experience is mainly victoria ,, maybe in other states the roundabout code was observed as originally written .

Why would the Police laugh at him for reporting it? There has been an impact between the vehicles, it qualifies as a motor vehicle collision & the Caravan driver left the scene even after the truckies asked him if he was stopping. All drivers must exchange details after such an incident, failing to do so is an offence. An experienced Police Officer would breach the caravan driver and also put a question of fitness on the driver of the heavy vehicle. The audio/dash cam footage is all that’s needed for the Questions of fitness. Too easy 🤷🏼‍♂️

From the conversation and the fact they started recording it sounds like the caravan driver cut off one of the trucks off previously. Which is no surprise considering the caravan driver thinks it is OK to take 2 lanes through such a large diameter dual lane roundabout. At no time whilst NEXT to the caravan did the truck cross the lane markings. The truck didn't bully him or squeeze him for room, the caravan driver clearly drove into the truck's lane and the truck. Yes, the truck was a little off on the approach to the roundabout. But both trucks proved you can make the roundabout within 1 lane, so what is the caravan's excuse? "Do not overtake turning vehicle" rules do not apply to the caravan as neither the car or the van exceed 7.5 metres. That is why 3 tonne trucks also don't have these signs on them, it is the larger trucks from medium rigid and up.

This incident is also shown from the overtaking trucks dashcam. This clearly shows that the caravan veered out of his lane whilst on the roundabout. However, the truck driver did himself no favours in overtaking just before a clearly marked roundabout. Some truck drivers think of nothing in overtaking other trucks when approaching roundabouts knowing full well that they will leave no room for the other truck and knowing that their truck will also cut in.I tow a caravan and have been driving arctics for 40 years. Note the caravan using 2 lanes through the large roundabout, whereas the truck could both take the inside lane and stick within 1 lane. Caravan took 1.5 lanes. "Do not overtake turning vehicle" rules don't apply to the caravan otherwise it would be legally required to have the signs on it. They are effectively going straight and the roundabout is very large and designed for large vehicles to keep in 1 lane anyway. If it was a B-double, then I'd see why a truck might need both lanes. On smaller dual lane roundabouts and 90 degree or greater turns, then it is necessary to obey the do not overtake turning vehicle laws.

This is what gets me about ppl with a drivers license that they some how think that the rules don't apply to them then they go out and get a caravan. The people who drive pulling a Caravan seem to always believe they have the right of way. It's clear and it's that simple. If a truck can drive a few klms faster than a car (and they do) then why don't people just let them. Why be as insolent as to believe that a truck driver doesn't have the right to be on the road. I've seen this behaviour right in front of me on a trip to Sydney. The driver of the caravan believed that she only needed to put her blinker on and change lanes in the middle of a turning intersection without even checking her peripherals she ran into the truck and got out of her car with the excuse that she put her blinker on. It's tiring to see that there are people on the road that don't check over their shoulder (which is law) for a car travelling right along side of you. You learn it in driver training. And if you drive like that man with that caravan then you need more driver training. I'm not making excuses for the trucks and their drivers I'm just pointing out that those truck drivers bring every one of us our equipment and supplies shouldn't they be the ones that we show common courtesy to. I like being able to go to the shop to buy my things and I reckon there should be recognition to the trucks for being operated by men and women as our heroes because they put up with this kind of bad bad behaviour. I find it strange that the car driver had a radio and was hearing all the chatter and still did the very unsafe, thus 100% illegal, lane change. The tow car did not stay in the left lane therefore the car driver attempted to use he's caravan to run the truck off the road or cause a collision. The BS car driver even thought he had the legal right to do it. If the car stayed in the left lane and still hit the truck then it would be a completely different story.
@davexb6595

I'm going to assume that the driver towing the caravan was pulling ahead of these trucks at each light and then slowing down well below the speed limit, once the trucks got up to speed. Plus also blocking the trucks from passing. Just like he tried to use both lanes around the roundabout thus blocking the trucks behind. This must have been going on on for some time before the video starts. Thus making the overall duration for the trucks longer. No doubt also resulting in a long line of other traffic backed up behind them. I notice that this is on the A1 in Queensland so probably all vehicles involved were on very long drives. Then the video starts. At this point one truck driver has enough and so decides to enforce his right to travel through the right hand lane through the round about. That was perfectly legal. Not only was the vehicle towing the caravan legally in the wrong. It was also most inconsiderate to all the other road users - including those 2 trucks.

The video here, if used as evidence, should see the truck driver ticketed for driving without due-care, illegal use of horn. Nothing but bully-boy behavior. Does the truck driving industry absolutely no good whatsoever.

I'm not sure about other states (this video was taken in Queensland), but in NSW trailers (including caravans) and tow vehicles with a combine length of ? metres must have 'DO NOT OVERTAKE TRUNING VEHICLE" signs displayed on the rear. This legally allows them to use more than one lane to negotiate a turn. Surely the "professional" truck driver would have known that. Still, the caravanner could've done a better job to try and stay as much in his lane as possible, especially with a semi next to him. Both drivers partly to blame.
@XaviRonaldo0
@XaviRonaldo0 3 жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter. It's still that vehicle's driver's responsibility to cross lanes safely. For the record I'm pretty sure any vehicle longer than 7.5m may display a 'do not overtake turning vehicle' and is legally allowed to lane share. Either way though you should avoid lane sharing if it is clearly unnecessary. This is a huge radius roundabout and there should be absolutely no reason for the caravan driver to use 2 lanes. Having said all that the truckie was way too aggressive but legally did nothing that caused the collision. He never strayed from his lane whilst in the roundabout.
@coover65
@coover65 3 жыл бұрын
@@XaviRonaldo0 Are you stalking me? Haha. That caravanner could've negotiated that roundabout better, nay a LOT better. Some MAY argue that the truck shouldn't have "overtaken a turning vehicle", but those lanes were wide enough for both to get through and stay in their own lanes.

Caravan Driver Crosses lane line and fails to stop after an accident. Minor traffic infringements, fine, no demerits or charges. Could argue on the video/ audio evidence he was in fear of physical violence or harm from truck driver and be on good grounds for removal of failure to stop penality. Truck driver: Shown speeding and admits it to other driver on radio. Fine, demerit points. Crosses lane line. Fine. Satisfys several criteria of a road rage/ aggressive driving charge: Automatic Court apparance, Heavy fine, heavy demerit points, excellent likleyhood of licence suspention on top of possible accumulation of demerit points suspention. Heavy fine for more than likley repeated loss of licence. Min 6 months suspention if that is the case. Now, who would come off worse for their indiscresions out of that altercation and who is going to look more stupid and be worse off? Who here thinks this moron in the truck really followed through with the complaint to the cops and provided them with the self incriminating evidence shown here? If he did, just goes to show what comeplete brain dead, drugged up self serving imbeciles truck drivers of this mindset really are. And the worst part is, people can see all this here and still try and defend these moron truck drivers. Nothing like the stupid trying to defend the indefensible.

And a few fellow truckers with zero patience and/or brain, when they were merging, and you pull out, to give them the left lane so they don't have to let go of the gas, that then didn't feel like letting you back in again, because their, or your rig, could do 0,2 kph more... Carvaner needs to learn how to navigate roundabouts & towing a large trailer. If a motorbike or car was on the inside it would most certainly, caused an accident. Truckie needs to back off as he could see that driver is inexperienced in towing. Entering the roundabout on the inside lane at that speed...maybe truckie needs to go back to school.
