The trucker's hitch is a great camping knot that you can use to add a great deal of tension to a line. The truckers hitch is most commonly used to secure your camping gear in a truck, trailer or cargo basket.
I mentioned in the video that you can double the force applied to a line, if fact, you actually triple the force.
The method demonstrated in the video use a simple slip knot to form the loop this is the quickest and easiest way to form (and to untie) the trucker's hitch and will be adequate for most uses. When a more secure knot is needed I recommend forming your loop with a bowline on a bight or an alpine butterfly knot I will be doing a tutorial video on both of these knots in an upcoming video.
Other use for this knot are adding tension to a line to be used as a clothes line or the ridge line for a tarp.

Additionally you can do a trucker's hitch on a trucker's hitch indefinitely if needed and produce more force than a rope could possibly handle (like a multi-pulley system).

The top line hitch here makes me kind of squimish in practice. Don’t like getting my fingers in a loop that can cinch up if the load moves. Is there an alternative?
@roseymalino9855
@roseymalino9855 10 ай бұрын
Curious comment. The loop doesn't tighten. If the load shifts before the rope is taught, the loop stays a loop and goes with the rope and load. If the load shifts while you're pulling the rope taught, it will contain the load. It is important to do the loop properly. If the loop is done backwards, it will tighten and is a failure as a hitch.

Please learn the correct way to tie this hitch You have tied a knot in the rope which will just pull tight lock up and possibly break the rope The correct way is to twist the rope into a single and then a double loop for a stronger hitch. The rope will just fall out when released. Plenty of Video here to show that correctly

@LetsGoNowAdventures
@LetsGoNowAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam. Thanks for watching. You may want to try using an Alpine Butterfly for your loop. With that much tension any knot will be difficult to untie. The Alpine Butterfly would still be very tight but if you take the "wings" and bend them back you can loosen it enough to get it untied. We did a tutorial video on the Alpine Butterfly, check it out here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gcB2pLllxKuniok.html

Lets Go Now Adventures I tried that too but still difficult. I find the best knot for a hammock to be a truckies hitch / sheepshank hitch
@kurtschmidt5746
@kurtschmidt5746 2 жыл бұрын
Well, to start, you can give the initial loop a few more turns, before pulling the bight through. Or, look up the Bell Ringer's Knot (it's 1/2 a Sheepshank). Will stay as long as there's tension on the bight, and the working end. Hold the knot w/the bight in your hand, take the working end 'round your near anchor point, then back up and through the bight. Pull down, tight as you please, make it fast. Similar to the Bell Ringer's Knot, make the initial loop out of a Lark's Head, then pull a bight of the working end up through, tighten. Also needs to stay tensioned.

Why don't you show how trucker's knot is done? Why do you make people go looking for another of your videos? If the trucker's knot had 5 knots, would you make KZfaq viewers look for your KZfaq videos of every knot? We all know you need KZfaq revenue, but please don't do this at the expense of users. For some of us bandwidth is not cheap. Besides, the one you want us to go looking is much simpler knot. It takes much less time, so why did you speed up doing it? I would rather see how proper knot is done instead of wasting time watching your intro. Instead of putting a link to your entire paylist in the description, it would be much better user experience to have a direct link to the knot you are sped up through. You are also monetizing the exact the same video on two separate channels, which got to be against KZfaq terms. As a side note, I recommend using higher contrast colors for the rope and background.
@LetsGoNowAdventures
@LetsGoNowAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nic. We are always trying to make things simpler, but I guess we didn't. You really can tie the truckers hitch off with any knot that will hold. Half hitches are the most popular. I'm not sure what you are referring to when speaking of another channel. Nic we really appreciate the feedback and will look to add line with better contrast in the future. I look forward to your thoughts going forward.
