Truckers: A Road Well Traveled (2001 Canada)
Genre: Documentary about Truckers live in Canada and North America
"Day or night, there are about 4 million trucks on North American roads, criss-crossing the continent with an endless flow of goods. It appears to be a simple job, but for those who drive big rigs for a living, life on the road takes its toll. This documentary takes a fascinating look at the lives of several long-haul drivers, mixing behind-the-scenes footage with lively interviews. Sharing their stories are Stu Lorencz and Ed Lockwood, whose route takes them through the Arctic, and Don Lee, who drives a lengthy circuit from Canada through the United States."
Director: Tom Dodd

I am incredibly grateful for the work that the men and women behind the wheel of a truck do every single day. They may not all be pleasant characters, but it's a tough life, and without them our civilisation couldn't exist. I find it sad that they're treated so poorly despite doing such a vital service.

I load trailers for a living. my job to dispatch Drivers once the trailers full. used to have this Lady Quebecer that I named "horse face" nag me for her load. one night she comes in , I sign her off and off her an her team driver went. was the last time I saw her. later that night making their way on the highway, their truck went around a blind curve as another truck an trailer were coming the opposite way...someone fell asleep at the wheel...crossed the line. she died...leaving two daughters behind. the job has it's risks. Wether you drive Long haul or intown. you have my thanks an gratitude.

When I was young I had great respect for truckers - I remember being a little kid and my father (who was a mechanic and tracher) telling me how truckers were usually VERY good drivers. That stuck with me... until recent years when I have seen some of the WORST driving I can imagine - and the realization came that a lot of truckers (at least now) are every bit as bad as all the other idiots out there. When I was young, truckers almost always signalled changing lanes... now I see them swerve over all the time with no signal... high beaming people.....even little things like that.... I’ve personally chased down three truckers and yelled at them for several minutes - one moron from Quebec nearly killed me - I had to drive onto the island bc he merged onto the road from the On ramp and inexplicably in broad daylight could not see me, the onto other vehicle, and just cut right over trying to smash right into me! Insane...I think the standard have deteriorated for truckers just like everyone else. Wish it were still the old-school guys out there....

There are a lot of older school drivers out there, just gotta know where to look. My dad started driving in 92 and now we have 5 trucks, all pre emission and we make sure all of our drivers are well equipped for the northern bc highways, and actually know how to run old iron properly. Driver training these days is in the toilet. Nobody knows how to do things the proper way. There’s still some drivers out there though.

In my 25 years of driving one thing that stands out the most is rules and regulations for trucks are getting harder and harder but for your everyday traveler in cars it’s easier. They it’s for safety if that’s true then why when a car and truck is involved in a accident 75 percent of the time it’s the car’s fault? Anyone who drives should have to know some Safty things for trucks , how the turn, how they stop ec. Cars should have to take a monthly Safty exam just like trucks today

After a week or more on the road, Stu doesn't even hug his wife of 21 years, and Ed..., this dude has more love for his pickup truck than for his wife whom he's not seen in days, if not weeks, kissing it without even a "Hello" for her. Can you hear it? B.B. King singing "The Thrill is Gone." I'm out on the road big-rigging in the U.S. and the first thing I do when I get home is hug and kiss my wife. Surely y'all know what the second thing I do is; and I'll give you a hint, it doesn't involve my pickup. Well, there was that one time on my way home when my Mrs had it and picked me up from the terminal. Needless to say, waiting until we got home wasn't an option. Lol.
