Ha ! YT didn't accept my title of "Smokestack Lightnin'" ... figure ...
Already posted (!) as a "complete" show. Here, I broke down the show into individual song/uploads (with some slight visual changes).
Proshot : Low gen video (thanks Brokedown House Productions).
Show comments : This last show of the 1990 spring/summer tour gets very mixed reviews. Beyond its being Brent's last (RIP), some find the show particularly strong, others poor or simply standard (evoking the end of a grinding tour : 38 shows, March to July with only brief breaks in parts of April & May). Bobby Weir seems, nonetheless, to be in good spirits as well as the two drummers and even Brent (despite the probable despair) seems truly on target. Ok, Jerry and Phil don't have their best "sway" or "smiles" of other shows...
Also, most Heads convene that this venue (World Music Theatre) was less than gracious nor even welcoming (no wonder the band never returned there as The Dead had been banded from their "preferred" Alpine Valley Music Theatre venue) AND that "bad vibes" were immediately felt upon arrival. Was that with hind-sight, with the passing of Brent just two days later ? Or just the end of another Tour ? Others also evoke the arrival of punky "non-Heads" polluting the scene. Well, for YOU to judge.
PS : You'll notice Jerry's using his "Wolf" (guitar)
PS : I used my pictures/images to mask SOME of the original & cheesy computer fillers (start of "Foolish Heart", "Women are Starter", "Terrapin" ...
PS : However, I'm NOT responsible for the other, original, cheesy visuals added here & there and notably during drums & space !
PS : Yes, Brent was probably the most complete pianist for the GD !, musically, vocally and inspirationally.

In the late sixties I sat up front during a Greatful Dead show at a small club in Boston sitting ten feet away .Jerry and the Dead looked and sounded exactly like they did twenty years later. Thumbs up man

I got to see the Dead with Jerry just 8 shows. Thankfully, I got to see Brent's last 3 shows which my were my only outdoor shows. We were in very back row of pavilion for this show. Tweaked my brains out and wanted to hug all 35,000 people in attendance! I settled for dancing, dancing, dancing...

I got new headphones today and listening to the boys really took me back. The band was on a tear late 80s up until Brent's departure. But I really wanted to say that I forgot how strong the band sounded. Phil just rocked my world again after all these years and it was very satisfying. Thanks for putting the videos up

Fun times, you got to do some of those camping tours. I remember camping out in the strangest of places. I am a west coast head. Not all shows can be Ventura I realized. Remember when the boys sent out all those pamphlets about the scene being in jeopardy. If you don't chill out we will not be welcomed back. Camping at show could go away. The big articles in Dead Relix mag. Nothing like seeing your sisters and brothers on the road. I remember a sea of tie dye inside Vegas casinos. Such a clash of styles. I want to say to my sisters and brothers. Keep the faith.

Excellent, and, in fact, Truckin' -> Nobody's Fault jam -> Smokestack. Always chased a Smokestack, never got one....(got a tease once, but Jerry abruptly steered into Terrapin....)

I have never been to this venue but all the comments I've read remind me of the other venue from this area. In '83 to end summer tour the band played 2 shows at Poplar Creek. I only caught the first night -my first help-slip- franklins to open set 2. Weird vibe and too many eager cops & feds to finish up tour with a bang. Northwest and west Chicago suburbs wanted the $$ from the shows but not the fans. They never returned there either....

This is a soundboard and thus it sounds great. This venue however did not sound so great. I recall commenting to people "You know why this place is named Tinley Park? Because it sounds like we're in a tin can. The Deer Creek shows were meh too, but at least the sound was good.

I had pavillion seats all three nights. In my honest opinion, that place, which was specifically built for concerts, gets an F for sound quality. When you can barely hear the Dead, who at the time had the most powerful and pristine sounding system in the world, it's safe to say the architect completely blew it. The Dead never returned for a reason. I'm sure it sounded fine around the stage. The band's performance was fine, the venue was the problem. The place sounds like you're in a tin can. That's the main thing I remember about that place, I hated it. The scene after shows was downright dangerous. There were roaming bands of hooligans mugging anyone they caught alone at knifepoint. This was funny because as you can imagine, after a show everyone is pretty much broke and hippies don't wear a lot of jewelry. Even the hooligans was like, "Bunch of broke-ass hippies."

I disagree about Deer Creek being meh. The first night was ok, but the second night in 90 was a really great show. I was there and I have listened to that show many many times. It has great versions of Row Jimmy and Althea from the first set, and a really nice second set- great versions of China Doll, UJB, and an outstanding NFA to end the show. Just my opinion- but worth checking out to form one's own opinion.

Notice at the end how it kind of just peter's-out. Not very enthusiastic.

I was there in a sky box seat with a private bathroom and VIP parking. I took a dump during space in a private clean bathroom. We had shelter from the rain and fancy food and champagne to drink. The people on the lawn were in mud and rain the fence went down and the place was chaos. I sat there eating steak and potatoes with strawberries and champagne to drink. Watching people fall in the mud and getting wet and soaked, it was a surreal trip.
