TRUTH: Typically, you get paid more for flatbed because it's a little more work and as result less people want to do it. However, keep in mind there's a reason why you less people want to do it; it can be tricky sometimes strapping and tarping some loads... especially in bed weather. I have have seen experienced drivers fall and hurt themselves while strapping and tarping in the rain. If you are young and/or motivated... look into tankers too.

Look like y'all flatbed was Conestoga trailers, so tarping the load is easy since all you gotta do I walk the tarp down the trailer. Also saves lots of time.

Wow $3,067 for 5,000 miles , Sorry Low pay . I know of flat bed drivers that make that driving with in there state . Here in my state - However there owner operators - getting there own loads too , May have something to do with it . But now I understand why they do what they do for Top dollar . And can stay close to home . Working smarter not harder. To avoid burn out .

Usually flat bed drivers carry heavier weight than van trailer drivers. That also makes a financial difference.

This video doesn't make any sense. A flatbed driver driving 2500 miles per week had to secure 2 or 3 loads with chains and straps, and possibly tarps. The flatbed driver probably put in an extra 10-15 hours of work that week that didn't show up in "miles". That is why they got the extra $350 that week.

The flatbed driver also drove less miles. Lot more work though of course. I did one year with Melton truck lines. Great experience. I’m at ABF now. I’m all about ambition but I enjoy being home everyday with my family, knowing health care is free for all of us as long as we’re paying a simple 63 dollars a month to the union. I like having my weekends off and two paid days off for every holiday that we celebrate. In my second year I’ll have two weeks of paid vacation and in a few years I’ll have up to 3 and even 7 weeks off for paid vacation instead of one week and the pension will pay me until the day I die. Yea life’s good

When you break it down into every day or 2, its not worth all the extra work and responsibilities on flatbed is not worth it with these guys honestly.
@andreas_reyes

When you take it from the perspective of you get a decent workout, it's worth it. Pulling a dry van/ reefer, I was always in pain and getting fat even eating healthy, as a flatbedder, I get a good workout, I'm happy and I'm lean. What is worth it is beyond money. Flatbedders who like their jobs aren't out here for the money, we are out her for the love of it.
@a1driver982
@a1driver982 3 жыл бұрын
@@andreas_reyes I meant its not worth it with ET Transport. I know a driver, now a broker, that did flatbed for them and although the rare of pay was a little higher, overall, he makes way more money and less down time doing van work. I know guys that did flatbed and loved it but after years of tarping it gets to your back, legs, etc. I'd love to get back into flatbed but would probably wanna go with either roll-tite or rack n tarp and probably B-Trains.
@andreas_reyes

@@a1driver982 That makes perfect sense! I agree, when I get older, a roll tight or wagon would probably be the way to go.

I think flatbed is relatively seasonal compared to van/reefer drivers. So I would think that the van/reefer driver pay would even-out or earn slightly more at the end of the year.

The rain adds weight to the tarp. The wind is not your friend. The up and down on the trailer is risky. You will do slot of overnight parking.The load will make you pernoid driving on the road. First aid kit is a must. Spread axle is a little harder to manuver. I hope you like mud. Wd 40 will save hour's.
