This Trucking Game may not be a view from inside the cab, but it's the most realistic physics that a truck makes where you get to understand how to truck operates in reverse. American Truck Simulator (ATS)and European Trucking Simulator 2 (ETS2) are the best trucking games that you get, and I recommend that you play them, but my game is created for people to just get used to reversing a trailer.
I have heard from so many users that truck schools across the country use my game and use my videos to show their students how to back up.

Thank God for your videos man! I've been out on my own driving solo for about 3 weeks now and every day I watch your videos. I'm getting a little better at backing, but I'm still super nervous every time I park at loves or the shipper/reciever

Just now I'm beginning to realize why so many of us struggle for long periods of time with these movements. The combinations that are possible with the tractor and trailer elude us when it comes to correcting a misplaced trailer in relation to the parking spot.

I struggle so much with simple things like this I find myself over steering constantly. I gave up practicing a while back. 1 go through great things to avoid any backing. 2 get myself in the general area and it either goes okay with me correcting a lot or horribly wrong

This is the one video I've been searching for. As simple as it seems I have eternally struggled with alignment. As I back into the loading dock, the rear of my trailer is not perfectly aligned with the dock. I've been accomodated by the warehouse crew with the plate extensions. Yet, I couldn't make the minor corrections necessary for proper alignment. I will look at this video a thousand times if needed until I mentally understand what is going on.

@@MyTruckingSkills One important point you bring up is the treacherous nature of the mirrors. It appears to be giving drivers like myself the notion that we are perfectly aligned with the dock. Once we get off and check, the uneven nature reveals itself. Depth perception is the culprit. Some of us are perplexed of being unable to correct the problem even after it has been revealed to us or we have seen it for ourselves.

Something bizarre happened to me on my last trip out. I was able to park in tight conditions even though I struggled to but I did. In much simpler parking scenarios I was finding myself struggling horrendously to park the truck. I'm talking about P.O. facilities with no trucks anywhere and enough space to fully straight back with no adjustments. I'm talking about a simple straight back. In the absence of obstacles as guideposts which should make it simple, I was lost as to line up the trailer and the dock. It was as if the wide open space caused my mind to think no maneuvering was necessary. It was quite bizarre. It was embarrassing to be viewed by the warehouse staff watch me struggle for so long in what was the simplest of parking scenarios. In difficult parking scenarios I appeared to be a veteran with decades of experience. It was as if there were two separate drivers within the same body. One with poor skills and another not. Maybe the lack of guideposts? Maybe the wide open spaces created a loss mentality, of being lost what to do? The trailer was swinging widely as I was going front and back trying to find my bearings.

Yes sir, I match that description 🥲 Granted, I’m only in my second week of training OTR with my leader and today I was backing into a Love’s truck stop between two tractor trailers, despite my leader telling me that he wanted me to park in a spot that was free and also either side was also free of any trucks😅 So that way there was no chance of me hitting anyone’s truck. Well… It was sunny out here in Alabama and the yellow parking lines just weren’t working for me. I couldn’t really see them. And because I couldn’t see them I felt embarrassed and didn’t tell him the real reason why I skipped over those 3 lanes and backed right in between two trucks. Because I find it a lot easier since I have my “markers” so to speak. I just told him I forgot what he wanted me to do😅 I really gotta stop doing that.

When we decide to finally align the TRACTOR and the TRAILER to straight back, we have moved the trailer over by more degrees than we need and we scratch our head asking WHY? We have to anticipate when we have gone too far and that is difficult to do as a newbie. I'm analyzing the video and others to determine the micromovements necessary to anticipate the over- correction.

From this one video, you could decompose it and create multiple videos analyzing the micro-movements which make all the difference in the final alignment between the tractor, the trailer and the dock / parking slot.
@failyourwaytothetop

The counterintuitive nature of driving a tractor trailer is manifested clearly in this video. If one wants to move the trailer over to a slot on the left, one would think the logical course of action would be to move the tractor to the left. That is the main problem. I finally realize that moving the tractor to the left will not bring the trailer to the left but to the right. This was a a mistake I would make over and over again. I finally realize what everyone meant by driving the TRAILER. One is driving the TRAILER not the TRACTOR. One Uses the TRACTOR to drive the TRAILER. I would move the TRACTOR to the left thinking solely on the TRACTOR. I feel this is a mistake many of us make. If the tractor is only being driven, then that would be the logical course of action. With a trailer connected, the logical move in order to park the trailer on a slot to the left of the trailer is to move the tractor to the right. . But I have come to an epiphany thanks to you.

So if you are too close to a trailer to the left or right of you, the first movement is to pull forward slightly to the right. That is STEP 1. If I am correct on this, then I am beginning to see my problem. Hopefully, you can answer my question. I reviewed the video several times and that is the prescription for the problem. It is an initial pull-up with a slight movement to the right. Depending on the primary angular positioning between TRACTOR and TRAILER, determines how far to steer the tractor to the RIGHT.

I see the mistakes I would continue to make despite watching and re-watching the video. In the first scenario, I would continue turning the TRACTOR to the right thinking that would position the rear of my TRAILER in the proper place. Yet, what you do which seems so strange to my mind is that after a brief movement to the right, you move it to the left. That left steer movement ensures the rear of the TRAILER is in the proper place to back up and enter the slot. It is the left steer motion after the right steer that my mind rejects in error. I just have to take it at face value why it works and to do it. I'll continue watching until it cements it in my mind. I'm going out again trucking in one week with a CO-driver. He is completely afraid of parking and is bad at it. Good for me. It will give many more parking opportunities to practice what I am seeing here.

Do you have his game? I played it over and over one day before going to a really difficult dock (I read reviews on it) and honestly...I felt extremely confident. I got in there, did my set up and nailed it perfectly. I even got nods and a "you backed it pretty good" from a couple of guys who were already there. I felt so good. The game really does help you understand why you need to make the movements to have control over your trailer. I'm still learning, but I'm grasping the idea better.
@failyourwaytothetop
@failyourwaytothetop 2 жыл бұрын
@@taffetajackson3770 I'm going to try it out. I've been re-watching these videos many times over and writing down the amount of times he turns the steering wheel. I realize I don't turn the steer enough to be able to move the trailer over a couple of feet. As simple as that seems I would never turn the steer at least one full rotation which he does normally. I will pull up and back-up and I wasn't doing any movement other than in and out of the dock. So frustrating. Doing the same movements over and over again.
@failyourwaytothetop
@failyourwaytothetop 2 жыл бұрын
I've written on over correcting but another problem I've faced is under correcting. Many of us unable to anticipate how many degrees to steer over don't turn enough and the trailer is not moving by the necessary amount. Between over and under correcting the problem, we are not solving the problem.

I just got back from a trip and my analysis to the extreme paid off. I still need to improve in certain areas specifically inching over that massive trailer when it is off by fractions from the loading dock. The driver I went out with could not park at all which was perfect for me since it forced me to make decisions I never had to and park in spots I never thought I could.

@failyourwaytothetop

@@MyTruckingSkills I completed Truck School in 2018. The problem is many of these necessary techniques were not taught in school. I've as of late gained the confidence and skill level to be able to drive as a lead driver. The last two trips the co-drivers lacked skills in certain areas. The greatest challenges I have overcome have been parking between two trailers and closing the gap when the trailer is not squared off with the loading dock. I still struggle but at least I can park in less than 10 minutes whereas before it would take 15 to 30 minutes or I would not be able to park it at all. Those that park with ease don't realize how incredibly complex parking is. It involves a knowledge of techniques which are contradictory to common sense. As you have stated before, it is a daunting task to move over a couple of inches such an enormous piece of equipment. I am beginning to finally get a grip on why this has eluded me for so long. Thanks to your videos and my tenacity to understand why I don't understand and what am I missing in my thinking which complicates the process.
@failyourwaytothetop
@failyourwaytothetop 2 жыл бұрын
@@MyTruckingSkills As stated I continue to look at these videos to aid in skills I am lacking. I realized during my last trip I still have trouble moving the truck over the 6 to 12 inch gap I am missing when fully backed up. I am proud of being able to park in a variety of challenging conditions as I have never done before.. I have successfully backed in conditions which varied from extremely busy loading docks to tight slots where both sides were boxed in by containers adjacent on both sides. What continues to elude me is the gaps left from loading dock and rear of trailer. I overshoot and left it as is since the warehouse crew told me it was sufficient to load and unload. It wasn't perfectly aligned but enough to get the job done. I will continue to work in that area. I didn't use the steering count I calculated from your videos as a guide and will do so when next I go out. I have noticed a pattern that occurs when you are backing up. It is formulaic as it involves steering wheel turns and time held. Hopefully, that mathematical mechanical approach will aid in that which I lack namely a raw intuitive feel to the tractor trailer, its dimensions and the loading dock to reverse into.

I realize now this involves OPPOSITE THINKING (my term).. What we think would be the logical procedure in fact is incorrect. For example the first backup in the video demanded moving right yet I would improperly move left. Moving left requires more space and time than is available and/or allowed. As you explained, there is an economy of time and space by moving right. Yet moving right is counterintuitive. I have to rewire my thinking.

It's been four months since my last post. I realize you can't make a rule out of the amount of steering wheel turns which occur in the simulation and project it onto the real world of trucking. At best, it can be used as guide but not a hard and fast rule which would have been perfect for us newbies or those of us who struggle to park the trailer. I spent many hours counting the number of times the steering wheel turns in the simulation and using that info in whatever particular parking situation the simulation demonstrates. I slowed the speed of the KZfaq videos to be able to count the exact number of steering wheel turns in the simulation. IT DIDN"T TRANSLATE over from simulation to actuality. Simply put, it didn't work. I would mostly over-step or over-correct or under-correct the difference between the loading dock and rear of trailer. At times, it was substantial. It was disconcerting to say the least because I thought I had developed an exact ratio of steering wheel turns to rear of trailer positions to be able to calculate based on turns exactly where the rear of the trailer would be at. I believed I had found an algorithm. I did not! On my next drive out, I will adapt to compensate for the differential errors and hopefully come to general proportions of turns to placements. For now it's a wash.
