Raul’s hand steadiness with the camera at 11:10 is freakish. It’s encouraging to see complete strangers just take you in as family and help with whatever they can, skimboard, sat phone, fish tacos, in n out, and a driveway to camp in. Not to mention the ranch and showing you all the good places, you really lucked out Mav, they are awesome folks.

Na brotha, let’s be honest mexico has its sketchy areas. Usually on the outskirts of the pueblos/backroad areas. If you’re in the city for the most part you’re okay, especially if it’s a tourist area.

Living in LA all my life, I'm not surprised at all how cool Raul is - Mexicanos es mi gente. I've come across dozens of Rauls where I'm from. He's a special one tho - strikes as a person who can probably hold a meaningful conversation with just about anybody - not to mention how simpatico he is. Oh, and I'd be remised to not mention what an obvious sweetheart his wife Carolyn is as well.

I’ve always found Mexican people are kind and friendly and if they like you your family. As a young kid I grew up with most of my friends being Mexican, their families where hard working and would give you the shirt off their backs. And when you come for dinner they cook enough food to feed an army. I’ve never drove to Mexico 🇲🇽 but it’s on my list to do soon, thanks to Mav and Raul I can’t wait. Mav enjoy!!

I’m sure someone else has already mentioned this but you should be able to use your US phone down in Mexico. Most plans offer free service in Mexico/Canada or it’s a cheap upgrade plan. Same goes for international service. We travelled all through Mexico and went to Asia for 3 weeks on a separate trip and the increase in cost was minimal. Worth checking out rather than using a sat phone.

@@danny-xn1fo could be. I just meant more so in the sense that he’s around people using cell phones. There’s very obviously service and if he’s stuck to only 250 minutes with his sat phone he might as well use his actual phone. No reason he couldn’t have both id guess. You’d be surprised how many rural places in other countries have WiFi also. We spent 3 weeks in Indonesia and we were on smaller island next to an already small island 1 hr away from mainland and the first thing our hosts asks us is if we got the wifi password already. It was wild hah.

@@travisbarba8520 Yea makes complete sense, I figure he called his mom so she can save the number or something but nonetheless you are right people are using cellphones but that's there where he is at. I travel to Mexico frequently and some parts are still pretty rough as far as service is concerned and in an emergency you'd rather be safe than sorry. Besides a SAT phone is global so in my opinion it was a great investment considering how often Mav wanders out into the wild lol

I love Raul!. He’s awesome. Wise friendly. I would definitely take him aboard my shot to survive if needed. I’m 51. It’s nice seeing someone with your knowledge and understanding of the world. Just so you know, about half of all dogs in Mexico are named “Firulais.” So if you see many dogs call them by Firulais and I promise you one will come to you.

@Anthony Galloni It all started with a Rugrats cartoon, I think it’s suppose to mean “Free of Lice” the name of the dog in the cartoon, but in the Spanish version they called it Firulais
