I loaded out of Hospers, Iowa on Friday evening and had to dodge a tornado. When I left, it was raining so hard that I could barely see the road.

Thanks to the video I see the flooding is turning into a mel of a hess. Folks here in Norfolk NE are enjoying 95+ degrees. Out for a while to attend a meeting at the Vet's Home, the sunlight was starting to burn my 85 year old skin. Out of the sunlight, with very low humidity, it's not that bad. I have nothing to complain about, but my heart is aching for what's happening in western Iowa. Have a care in your travels, be well.

Wow. Spencer looks like Cedar Rapids/Iowa City/Coralville after the 2008 floods. It took a long time to recover and many businesses never came back.

My mom lives in Lake Park Iowa. Highway 9 has been closed for days because of the Little Sioux river flooding. I grew up in Spirit Lake.

My brother got ten feet of water in his yard this past may. It's really hard to grasp how much water that is unless you experience it, and still you get left awestruck after the damage. Thanks for the video. My prayers be with all involved.

As a bridge construction and maintenance supervisor of all the bridges in my county of Richland in South Carolina, large debris like one you showed here is one of the most destructive forces to a bridge. No, this small amount will not harm the substructure of the bridge, it can cause scour or channel water around piers and banks causing washing of the bank. When the rive goes back down and the debris gets trapped against the piers, then you have a fire hazard. Smoking people ride by, chunk out the lit cigarette and here we go. Fire can cause extensive damage to any bridge. One of my jobs with the SCDOT was to clear debris from bridges through out the year. Many times I would have to use large cranes to remove trees that weigh as much as 20,000 pounds. It is an on going job to keep the motoring public happy and moving.

Prayers to all of you in the Midwest. Between tornadoes and other bad storms, you now have flooding! I live in Washington State on the eastern side and we are finally getting warm. Did have a severe thunderstorm last Tuesday with dime-sized hail and a lot of rain, then yesterday we had 50+ mile an hour winds all day and I drove home from a family reunion in the wind storm. Thought I was going to blow off the road a few times! The 2011 Toyota Venza handled better than my old Rendezvous did in the wind.

Every time I see this happen my instructor's words from an Ag class echo over and over in my mind "Do not build on flood plains" and it saddens me that cities and towns continue to allow people to build on flood plains, and our federal government continues to provide flood insurance for those that do - as if that minimizes the loss. There is nothing worth building on a flood plain. There is nothing worth losing to a flood. It's so disappointing. *SMH* Thanks for the informative video. Prayers to all those affected.

We had major flooding in '93 in Kansas City,KS. Both the Kansas and Missouri rivers breached their banks pretty bad.

What a crazy year in weather it's been for us in Iowa. Remember when we had 70 degrees in February?! Lol

I came down 29 in Sioux City yesterday from Sioux Falls and they were putting up the signs as I was driving by, the river was very high, I live in Salem SD, and we got flooded too, I'm still not done cleaning up but had to take a load to Oklahoma. Also heard on the news that the army corps of engineers is trying to hold back on dumping water from the 5 damns we have in South Dakota on the Missouri river, if they do Sioux City will be a major mess, Happy Anniversary to you and your wife and look forward to some more videos on the floods. I live in SW Minnesota and the rivers in my area are the Redwood, Cottonwood and the Desmoines(sp). We haven't had any rain for a few days but cross the Redwood every day. A lot of field water still draining in it yet and this river is still going up. The same with the other rivers. All of that water will be moving south and now it's supposed to start raining here in about an hour with heavy rains tonight. This mess is far from over

In southern Minnesota some of our roads are re-opening but we still have the headache of detours along with road construction that might have been better delayed a year or a few months.

It's been flooding in Iowa for years. I remember when The Cedar River use to flood 4th Street in Waterloo Iowa. Still can't believe people are playing in that nasty water.

I hate that there's so much flooding and and tragedy, but I wanted to wish you and Warden a Happy Anniversary very stay safe

Many sympathies from Calgary AB. We had major floods in 2005 and 2013. Takes years to recover. Surprised this isn't bigger on the news.

In October 2015, Richland county South Carolina where I live had the 100 year flood. It rained so hard in such a short time it destroyed a large number of our bridges. One of our employees checking his area after midnight ran into black water running across the road and he ran into the water he did not see. The rushing water took his life that night. Water is a very powerful force and it is not to be played with.

Dang I miss riding. On another note, used to live in St. Louis and 1993 was a mess. We had some floods since then as well. One the water was up in the park, made from the flood of ‘93, across the street from us. We lived near the Mississippi then and in May of 207 almost didn’t make it out of the St.Louis area when we moved here as 44 was closed as wet highways down south in Arkansas which is the way we went. Had to take detours at that. Stay safe up there.

I'm near Lincoln, NE and manage farm land along the missouri for people. Luckily all the ground I manage is up on high ground that is along the river, however, the west Omaha area also has the Elkhorn River. There was flooding a few years ago that affected a number of homesteads. In the last couple years everyone is finally gotten everything fixed back up that is until late April. 4.26.2024 those home took a direct hit from the tornado that night. If they survived the flooding, many now have nothing but a burn pile. Unlucky for them 2 days ago the river was bank full again.

It's been dry in york pa this year. We haven't cut grass in 3 weeks

I'm from Cherokee, IA. This flood was a record breaker for most up here at least. The Little Sioux in Cherokee crested at ~33-35 feet (no exact numbers were given because the flood messed up the sensor that measures the water level) beating the previous record of ~28 feet from the 1993 flood.

Midwest taking a beating lately. Used to be mostly tornado threats. Hurricane season just started this month with eight named storms predicted to make landfall. Worst thing about it is even here in Florida the frequency of tornadic activity has increased. Used to run otr thru both tornado belts and it was always my biggest concern especially at night.
