I started in trucking back then 1972. Those drivers were very very different from todays drivers. You had to be really dedicated to the trade. Almost all of them were WW2 and Korean vets so uncomfortable living conditions were nothing for them. Thank you for posting this movie.

Was trucking a redneck thing in the old days or was that just a stereotype 😄 ? My dad was a steel cowboy/hillbilly. Thanks.

I started in 1994 and I’m in my truck right now, as a matter of fact. You are correct, trucking has changed DRASTICALLY since the 1970’s, especially the drivers. I do occasionally run into these old timers who drove back then. They’re always entertaining to talk to!

My step dad drove for Milne truck lines in So Cal , in the mid 70's he was 14 th in seniority I drove with him once from LA to Tucson Az in a cab over and i fell asleep with that motor right next to me ! I must have been 13 or 14 at the time it was a cool trip and I got to see his life , after he said I could ride with him any time ...but my older brother . can't, because he wined all the time !

I love those days, things were so much more simple, vinyl records, land lines and pay phones. I had a 1972 Dodge Charger like the one in the movie, I grew up around cabover White Freightliner's. I had a ear-to-ear grin during the whole movie.

Ron Suarez I got some alarming news for ya. David Janssen died in 1980 at just 48 years old. Allegedly he smoked 3 packs a day and drank like a fish for 30 years. That's a lot of self-abuse for anybody to do to themselves. Real shame as David Janssen was a good actor. A very versatile film maker. The best of a good bunch. Same thing with Patrick Swayze. Allegedly he smoked 2 packs a day and drank like a fish for well over 20 years. Poor soul died at just 56 years old. People reading this now, can't we learn anything from these 2 poor souls that were taken from us too early? If we love and miss them as much as we claim, then can't we learn from their bad luck as to how not to end up?

Love these kind of trucker movies, reminds me of my Dad. He drove truck from Washington State From 1974 - 1993, when he died from a brain tumor. My sister , mother and I would go with him every summer until I was 14. We went every where. The only places we didn't go to were Florida and Mexico. It was very fun and we got to see a lot of things, well sorta , some as we drove by fast lol And very few bathroom breaks. Learned how to use a plastic milk jug very well for that , even bouncing around in the sleeper . I think that's pretty good talent lol , Saw a few scary people also. I look back now and think my dad had a little more stress taking us girl's with him in some of the area's. I would still love to truck again.

That's a very cool story. I live in Windsor,Ontario,Canada which is right across from Detroit & both Windsor & Detroit are the automotive capitols of there country. My Grand Father is a very well known trucker here in Canada, at one time he was the oldest trucker in Canada & another amazing thing to that, not one single accident, now that's amazing. He retired at 65 but didn't last a year & said I can't handle this if I'm gonna sit in my recliner at home I'd rather sit in my Kentworth hauling beer for Labatt brewery lol. So he went back to trucking and when all was said & done when he finally retired he drove truck for over 60yrs,now that's impressive. Ken "King" Cole King of the Road.

+Dale Sutherland That is a very long career I am sure my dad would still be trucking if he would not have died He was 46 and died of a brain tumor. Kenworth that is the way to go . :) My dad never had a accident either, but he had seen some real nasty one's. This guy was coming down Stevens pass Washington state lost his brakes fully loaded made it almost to the bottom and one car didn't move out of the way . My dad saw it stopped and heard some one yelling dad finally found him he was smashed between the fifth wheel and the trailer. god knows how that happened my dad saw him and told him to hang on he would get some help my dad actually got sick after he had stepped away from him to call for help. then my dad went back and stayed with the guy talking to him , the guy was having a conversation with my dad , but when they took the trailer off the top of him he died. It is a terrible story but I am glad dad was there to be with the guy until he died. I wouldn't be surprised if your Grandfather and my dad met some where along the way. Dad was very well know too. He actually delivered load's to Detroit all the time . now that I have written a book. lol It is nice to have some one to talk to about old times Not many people pretty much grew up in a truck .every summer . There are so many stories , I was with him in the front seat when a lot of them happened

I am 66 years old now and never drove for a living, but I had a uncle that was the constable in Sarasota Florida and when he retired, he went in the trucking business. My father-in-law owns trucks ran cross country, so I think everyone in the world has some association with truckers in one way or the other you can’t get around it you can’t get away from it because without them, where would we be? everything that we have was on a truck at one time . I love watching these movies. Looking at the cab overs ! Thanks for sharing this movie with us here in south east Alabama USA ☮️❤️

As a 30 year truck driver myself, I love these old trucking movies. I’ve been in that very weigh station were they were told they were overweight. It’s on northbound I-5 near Valencia, CA across from Magic Mountain before you get to the Grapevine. I learned how to descend steep grades on that mountain, which reminds me: if they’re going to Houston, why the hell are they rolling north on I-5?? 😂
