It -is- a very political song, a very powerful message, and just as true today as when it was written. You touched on it a bit in your reaction, but really dig into the lyrics on another listen and you’ll feel it even more.

GNR = Everything that’s important in music!!!!! They were all about everything that was/and is important in life till today. GNR was an extremely important voice of the generation to explain what was important in the world news, at the time! It is extremely important that the younger generation learn from the generations before. As Motley Crue did the same, GNR took it to a whole never level. That’s why, today, their songs are still important!! But all of GNR’s music meant something important. Axel wrote all their most popular hits from things he went through as a child. Anytime they had a big hit, it was Axel who was the 1 who wrote the songs. Any breakup, f’n new hit song. Just for a brief backstory, Axel did have a VERY hard life. He was a child prodigy on the piano at the age of 3. He had sexual abuse as a very, very young child, and obviously never got over it. Would you?? That’s why all of their “greatest hits” were from Axel’s experiences as a child. In the industry, Axel was considered a diva, but no, it was from his experiences of life. Axel had a 6 octave voice (for a man, unheard of), and could play the piano and other instruments to the point of ridiculousness. Sad story, but made him a legend. Love ❤️❣️💕💓💖💘, love, love me some Axel Rose, and of course the rest of GNR (ah, Slash!!!). Slash is on the list of the TOP 5 guitarists of ALL TIME, OF ALL TIME people!!!!. When most musical groups and or just musicians write their music, most bands get together and create the whole ensemble together. It's a progression. The lyrics may be written already, or they come as its being composed! Either way they all come up with the way the finished product is assembled! They don't have a beat or music necessarily to just throw lyrics over the top! True musicianship is ebbing and flowing with your bandmates to create something beautiful or something that hits home like this song!

I love that young people are listening to this music. GnR will always be relevant, most of their songs have a message, tbis one in particular. I'm a guitar player. Solos do have a mathematical element to them, knowing which note to start and stop on and how it coincides with the chord changes. Once you learn these roadmaps, it takes a great deal of time and hitting the wrong notes to make them sound this good. Id highly recommend reading up on Slash in your spare time, he's got a story to tell.

Bro, check out either 'locomotive' or 'You could be mine' by guns n roses or, if you want a real treat for the ears, 'double talking jive' but find a live version! Reccomend either Chicago 92 or Tokyo 92! All long but totally worth it!

I was 16 when this was released in 91, used to listen to these two albums every day. the same year my uncle was over in Iraq with the British army, tanks. I've not made that connection before now. I think this song helped form my opinion of war, I was and still am proud of my uncle but never want to see him in anything like that again.

Being able to remember an 8 minute song note for note is quite easy if you practice the song and when playing live, Slash would not always play the exact same solo, and would improvise often and change things up.

I’m so glad you heard this song. It was instrumental to Gen X and sadly still defining today.

This is the last song that original drummer Steven Adler recorded with the band before being removed from the group due to his drug issues. The story goes, he needed like fourteen takes and then Duff (the bass player) and one of the engineers spent like an entire day in the studio to splice the drum tracks together to get one track that they could use for the song. It's a sad story how Steven got kicked out of the band and what happened to him afterwards. He was already a heavy drug user but it got worse because he was depressed after being kicked out of GnR. But if you've seen any recent videos of Steven today, he's actually one of the most humble and down-to-earth and amazing people out of the original five members. I met him at one of his band's shows a few years back and he's a great person. He's totally sober and clean today, just has a few lingering health issues from so many years of drug abuse. He's not the most technical or best or fastest drummer you'll ever hear, but his sound is so iconic (Appetite for Destruction) and his style so groovy, he plays with a nice swing in his playing. Even his band's new songs, you just know it's him playing. GnR still had some banging tracks without him behind the drums, but I would love to see him behind the kit with them again. He was that iconic sound to me.

The intro is from the 1967 Paul Newman movie Cool Hand Luke! It is the warden speaking after Luke Jackson (Newman) was captured after a failed prison escape.

Solos usually come from practicing & improving riffs, broken into pieces, layered, then played thru. It’s a very very difficult thing to make it memorable, and Slash is one of the best. You picked a great song to think about this.

the solo's are telling the same story as the word parallels to the lyrics, the genius is there in the touch of the guitar player and their sound engineering abilities . but mostly based on the guitar player's emotions and skills to tune them into the flow of the song.

Guns N Roses have one helluva catalog to dive into. I could make an argument that this is their best song they ever wrote. They did a killer job on this song live. I saw them support Use Your Illusion albums and Soundgarden opened for them. Killer show that didn't end until like 1-1:30 in the morning.

Writing solos isn't easy if you ask me. It's kind of a feeling more than writing something specific to fit the song. That's what real musicians do. Rappers are musicians in a sense but it's completely different if you're playing an instrument and creating a song from scratch from start to finish.

This song will stand true to the end of time.
