I was around then. They overplayed the crap out of You Could Be Mine because of the damn Terminator 2 movie. It got sickening. The other stuff from Use Your Illusion just kinda faded away & that was pretty much the end of GnR.

I sort of understand why many disliked him back then or had mixed feelings about him but some seem to be still angry at him which is ridiculous to me. I mean as far as I know he hasn't done anything shitty for ages, like he helped ACDC, got GRS together and always turns up on time now. So seems like a decent guy to me who just went through some real shit and then all the fame when he had a crisis in his life but he didn't die like many other rock stars would have in his situation or do something really stupid and got through it better and stronger even if it took some time for them to come back.

I'm 40 and loved GnR from the moment I heard appetite for destruction when I was 7. By time Use Your Illusions came out when I was eleven they had become the biggest band in the world hands down... I don't remember no hate, jealously maybe... You will never see another band like them again period, they were the last band to live the life style of access with unlimited budgets, that world doesn't exist anymore in the industry... and the talent was a chemistry of pure fluke... I'm thinking the people that hate one have no idea what they're talking about or just weren't around...love seeing new generations appreciate them.

@SuddenReal
@SuddenReal 3 жыл бұрын
I think that's part of the hate. They were the last band of the 80's metal pop (pop in it's original context, meaning popular of course), while other bands, inspired by Nirvana, kept it down to earth. Also, part of the problem was that while most bands have an on-stage persona, the guys from GnR took that persona off stage. They were bigger than life on stage, and acted the same way off stage, which can rub a lot of people the wrong way. And that ego took its toll in the band itself. Guns n' Roses was an amazing band, but could have remained an amazing band if they had toned down their ego's when interacting with each other. Maybe things would have gone better if instead of The Spaghetti Incident as a way to get the band back together, they would have taken some time off to do some solo projects to satisfy their ego's (so Axl could have done his Nine Inch Nails tribute on his own instead of trying to push it on the band). The reason why GnR got so much hate was because they became a parody of themselves. Nearly everyone who hated on them, hated them because they messed up. I remember Axl being pissed at Dexter Holland of the Offspring because Dexter had announced their next album would be called Chinese Democracy. The official statement of Dexter was "hey, he stole my dreads, we're stealing his album title". The unofficial statement was "dude, we've been waiting ten years for that album, get on with it!". It became a running joke that we'd sooner have democracy in China than the album. Everyone knew what talent GnR had, and everyone hated them for wasting that talent.
@MrKriso80
@MrKriso80 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuddenRealI see where you're coming from... I think although none of them were prob used to hearing "no", most think of Axl's ego as being the issue, the others were simply waisted when Axl wasn't (another friction point), but that was them in reality rather than playing a part. Of course Izzy could no longer handle being around it after getting straight, and also hated how big it had become (travelling in own trailer), and it was really the death noll once he left, it was just a matter of time. I think that tour def did them in, the longest in history at that point, and it had gotten too inflated and debauched, only Motley Crue could come close. And you're right, it's everything Cobaine hated of course, like you say gnr really were the last of a generation of rocknroll excess. Thing is, I remember at the time, you were kinda either in the GnR, Metallica or Nirvana camp do to speak, but most people I knew and me included, had a favourite but loved all 3 bands music. I don't think the grunge killed gnr thing is true at all. Spaghetti Incident was put out just as filler in 93 as the tour ended to fill the void till the next album came out after some recoup, alas it never happened and consequently that album became a statement when it was never intended to be. You see for me Chinese Democracy had nothing to do with Gnr, he just bought the name, it was Axl's solo project, once Slash left in 96 and Duff a year later that was a wrap period, because there is no guns n roses without them. Duff had already done his solo album in 93, Izzy had the Ju Ju hounds and Slash never stopped side projects his whole career... So they went by way of the cliche, so I get the hate maybe fir that, but for the music, I don't get it, they were in a league of their own... And never in this lifetime did I think all that could be put aside and a reunion happen, albeit sad Stephen and Izzy not involved, I just wish it had happened late 90s...im praying for some new material, and not just Axl's archives.

Same. I'm 39 going on 40. This was the peak of the era started in the late 60s into the 70s with Jimmy Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd and so on who didn't give two flying shits if you liked what they played they were playing from the heart for themselves, if they were successful that was just a bonus not the goal and were the real deal. What you saw was what you got. But, man, I remember like it was yesterday watching MTV when this was new and watching Guns N Roses and Metallica battling it out for supremacy. You'd get this and then the next video would be Metallica's Where Ever I May Roam and as a young teen it was the coolest stuff I'd ever seen in my life.

@@chaospoet haha this put a smile on my face 🙂 for real it was an amazing time looking back, and also have good memories of mtv back then, headbangers ball etc, and the box also had some cool shit on rotation. Yeah you hit the nail on the head right there about being authentic and genuine, doing it fir the lifestyle and freedom to do their own thing whether it was successful or not. I mean take gnr, they turn up on the LA scene in 85 hitting every dive pay to play till they hit spots. Sure they flyer bombed the strip like every other band to get punters, but they were different, the real deal in a swamp of hair metal glam or soft rock wank, posers... then 5 guys come along who truly don't give a f*@#k... and for whatever reason the stars aligned. Everything was against that happening, by themselves, total zero compromise on which label they sign with, their way or the highway, no boundaries, no rules, drink, drugs, sex and rock roll 😝

I know what you're talking about when you're trying to make sense of the situation where GN'R gets so much hate, yet all of their songs are above average, at the very least. Some bands just have people that love to hate them or their music doesn't speak to them. That's just how is, and no, it doesn't make sense. The trick is to enjoy what you enjoy and let the people who hate it continue to do what they're gonna do. Also: You Could Be Mine - GN'R has to find its way onto your radar.

The guitar solos are absolute godly, and the vocals will rock your world, thats why as a train person locomotive and nighttrain (both have to do with trains imo) are my favorite songs. I came here for Guns -N- Roses, but im leaving a comment to say I am very sorry to hear that you didn't get to walk the stage for graduation. For some reason that hit me really hard and I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you didn't get to do that. Thank you for all the videos, please keep them coming.

You don't have to "break it down" to be a reactor. You just have to react honestly. That's what we viewers are looking for. If a song hits you, you don't have to explain why. You're doing a great job, and I'm enjoying your reactions!

I enjoy your reactions but I have one pet-peeve currently. Though it's fun to see someone discovering GN'R and watching them get lost in the music, that's okay if you're just listening to the audio track....but if you're watching one of their "videos", you have to keep your eyes open. You missed certain elements involved in this video just as you did in Don't Cry where Slash's solo spot in the car was one of the best parts of that video. As I stated, it's just a current pet-peeve, similar to when people comment about reactors pausing during the guitar solos, lol. Just something I've noticed. East Side Detroit sends their love. Take Care and God Bless.

Their live versions are definetly something different. For me Rocket Queen live version in Tokyo 1992 is so much better than studio version. On part where is that girl, in live version Axl raps and he is pretty good at it. I think that makes song even better. 💗

I love how the song has you head banging in parts, and then in others with a look of confusion and focus on what’s happening, it takes you on a roller coaster and that’s why I love guns n roses

Fun fact.. They dropped 2 albums within the same day!! I was there to "hear" them both! Use Your Illusion II is the fourth studio album by the American hard rock band Guns N' Roses. The album was released on September 17, 1991, the same day as its counterpart Use Your Illusion I. Both albums were released in conjunction with the Use Your Illusion Tour.

When you hear something that you genuinely like, the smile reaches your eyes and you giggle like a little kid on christmas morning...and my old heart swells. after being in the music business for 20 years, it is joyous to see a new generation getting to experience some of the best music ever made for their first time.

Don't Cry, November Rain, and Estranged are part of an unofficial Trilogy by the band. And if you're wondering why November Rain is so soulful, it's Axl's magnum opus that he worked on from 1983-1991. It's crazy dude.
