Pink appearing on skin’s surface colouring does not equal cool skin undertone, if toned colours do not add to your sparkle, you can easily rule out the toned and soft colour analysis palettes.
Lots of people in this client’s palette have been granting permission of late… as stated in the colour analysis FAQ post on this page… I can only post what I have client permission to post… which means you may see more or less or a certain colouring in my posts (saying this before you may be thinking she types everyone a certain palette 😉💕).
I am filled with appreciation for this client sending in her colour analysis update after approximately a year trying out her colours! 💕⭐️🎨

Carol, I know in another video you said muteds each make up only like 2.4% of your results, but I wish we could see more examples of what they actually look like! I did a House of Color in-person color analysis last year and got “Brown Summer,” which overlaps with muted summer in other systems. I do believe it fits me, but I keep waiting to see another muted summer pop up on your channel-I’ve watched every other video you have with them, but I want to hear more of your thoughts around that subtype. 😊

She looks wonderful in her True Spring colours! Any redness/pink in the surface colouring of the face throws a lot of people off. I have that plus bluish lip colour but I was typed as a True Autumn in the same colour analysis system that Carol uses. Makeup people and others kept saying I was cool toned. Now that I know I have a warm undertone and have adjusted clothing and makeup colours I can really see how warm colours are better. Plus my face redness with no makeup is less noticeable when I wear warm colours . Keep up the awesome work Carol!

That is what happened with me!! I hopefully one day can get an analysis from you to confirm it but I used to drag myself down with such overly cool and/or soft muted autumn colors that when I started wearing BW and BS it was life changing for me lol. I went from vampire to alive again and I could see that in this person too, the BS yellows and reds are how I knew I was in the right ball park and its cool to see someone else who doesn’t exactly fit the gold standard stereotype for a season ending up being that in the end. Usually you only see light blondes in the spring examples on websites so i understand how they must have felt so lost at first. As a neutral slightly warmer for a cool person i had that limbo feeling unsure i was warm or cool, i hear that is more common in some of the BW’s and BS’s i’ve talked to.

Wow, so interesting! In the first picture I didn’t think she was a soft palette, but definitely thinking about true summer because of the pink in her skin. What a difference do colours make! In her brighter and warmer colours the pink seems to have disappeared completely!

Here's my question/dilemma. I've been type a warm Spring by you Carol, and a blue autumn by House of Color. I can clearly see my skin does look better with "warmer" colors, but I have never had golden or reddish hair of any kind. Maybe in my youth I did, but that was from the sun highlighting my hair, which will make anybody's hair "golden or reddish" but what has come out of my head before any type of natural "sun bleaching" is, at the most, neutral in tone. BTW my hair is a natural level 6 and I've also started going gray (40%). I'm referring to before I even started going gray. Every example shown and described for warm seasons say you'll naturally have red or gold tones to your hair and that's what'll look best. So I'm confused. Do I not look good with my natural hair? There's a flaw in some of these color analysis theories, IMO. I personally think the hair that comes out of your head is important to consider in what colors get recommended for people. I can see this lovely lady’s hair isn’t mousy in the first place. It doesn't make sense to suggest people wear golden brown as a neutral if literally nothing on their body mirrors that color. So are some color analysis theories about warming people up and cooling people down? I’m not trying to be negative, I’m just confused.

I know you covered this in another video, I think I’m just trying to understand whose line of thinking is “correct”. Honestly a lot of the information out there is contradictory.

@@CuriousJS I agree, it definitely is. I think Carol is of the school of thought that only undertone in skin really matters, you can disregard hair or eye color. Then again, she also says that autumns can't have blonde hair after puberty...so I'm not sure ;)

See the hair colour video you were sent… it says in there that your natural hair colour at age 20 will always be best. The colour analysis system I use focus on the 7 checks we do of skin, jawline, power to eyes in colour comparisons along with reviewing your colouring progression over time to confirm alignment with science factors … hope this helps! 💕🎨⭐️

@@carolbrailey as an esthetician, I'm a little confused by the color analysis stance that your hair color at 20 will always be your best. Skin loses pigment (melanin) as we age, just like hair does. So if we dye our hair the color it was at 20, it will not look the same on us at 50, because our skin no longer has the same amount of pigment, nor do our eyes. This is why some people will look harsh even when they're just trying to recapture or "maintain" their former natural color. Undertone, of course, does not change, but our overall balance does.

Dramatic before and after! That tomato red brings out her best! Some books type me as a summer but the muted shades look like death on me. I’ve often borrowed from the Spring palette. Mostly settling into Light Summer. Now I’m wondering if I’m even Summer at all.

I have to tell you that muted colors can dull out one's skin, especially if in the wrong hue. I witnessed that on myself and thought for the longest time I had soft chroma coloring which I really don't have. When I wear a bright reddish orange I look super vibrant, the gold in my skin comes out, my teeth look brighter, my eyes really come to show and my skin just looks healthy - but when I wear a soft sage green, soft grey-blue or a mauve I look dull, pale, dusty and lifeless and any imperfection in the skin will stand out. This is a case of "if it fits it fits, if it doesn't it doesn't". Whatever color makes your skin look dull, patchy, less nice, older or just makes you look like you didn't sleep enough or haven't fully recovered from being sick, isn't your color. One thing to mention though: If you are in soft, dull or darker lighting, your skin can look softer because the light isn't able to make your skin reflect its true color. Which is why during some seasons (with softer, more dull lighting) and some light settings we definitely won't be able to judge what our skin actually looks like.

I am actually getting quite fed up myself with analysts who dictate a persons colour group from how they look - i.e. do they have this colour hair and that colour skin or eyes? The true test is whether they look good draped in certain colours or not, that determines their season surely? As a trained textile designer, I could figure out colour combinations in my head all day, but until getting paint down on paper at design stage, could not tell for sure what worked. The former would be the equivalent of guessing someones colour group from their looks, as opposed to actually trying things out! Sorry, I am getting a bit pedantic in old age!

Totally agree! It looks like a cool Summer palette colour to me. For this client, the True Spring feels right. but that purple seems disconnected vs the red which has her glowing!
