We would all love to stay at SJP but give these Saudi boys a place to build and they’ll create the best stadium in the world for sure and SJP will be nothing more than a pleasant memory.

It’s not just capacity, it’s the corporate offering, facilities etc. SJP needs modernising as much as expanding if we’re serious about reaching revenue levels approaching that of the elite clubs.

Very true, plenty to develop within the stadium at the moment, especially the East Stand

@@tfnufcspurs have huge income - albeit I take the caveat that it’s a London venue - with a capacity of 62k. It’s considered a world leading stadium. I don’t think we need an 80k stadium to hit that level of prestige, it’s more about the facilities.

I've got 2 boys who I can't easily get in because I've got a season ticket and they need memberships for a ballot and then how do we sit together? Well the answer is find an adult friend with a membership, they apply together and then we faff on swapping phones. Or a mate can't make it so one lad wins this time and the other has to wait. How many other dads with lads (and lasses) could be taking an extra 2 people, or mam's with lasses (or lads) in the same boat. Have you seen all the housing developments around the outskirts of the city, the population is growing meaning more potential local fans before you even start to factor in tourists, overseas and corporate etc has the club even thought of generating a waiting list which would give you an idea of interest for potential session tickets and hence capacity need? We pulled in 50k when we were dog shit and young uns probably had no interest. The interest is there now and if we go with the mentality of "but what happens if we're shit again" I'd ask what the whole point of the takeover was then? We're not here to be popular, we're here to compete. It's like getting to Wembley and being grateful we got there when actually the whole point is to win and not trudge home deflated yet again. So 60-65k may be realistic short term but in another 10-15 years if we achieve regular European football we would need more based on the points above in my opinion. If you build it they will come 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤

Put a 70k stadium complex on the Town Moor, near Exhibition Park. That's still right next to the city centre, and it would alleviate the horrible traffic problems outside Newcastle's major hospital and A&E department on match days. The Town Moor isn't an area of beauty - it's a giant muddy field. Plus, the land St James Park is currently on could be turned into an extension of Leazes Park to improve the city centre. If the Freemen don't like it, then chuck 'em in jail and sell the cows to McDonalds.

A lot of work and disturbance has to be done to gain 10k seats. Then we have a stadium that can never be extended further. I think we have to be brave and do what Tottenham did; twist and build around the current stadium. Yes, it would extend into the park, however, we can offer some of the current plot as an entrance to the park, running right into the town centre. PIF could also extend the park in other directions and build other green spaces around the city. They have deep enough pockets to keep the council/aldermen of the park happy.

The solution is building a new stadium 200meters up Barrack Rd into Leazes Park, then turn st James's into park land with the upkeep managed by the club.
@pesty4

Agreed. And have the approach to the stadium through the park land (which in fairness, could be called St James' Park)

100% also things like move the bandstand to where the St.James centre circle is and the Victoria promenade into the new park, plus Leazes terrace woukd be on full view too, it would be a win win for everyone in the city.

St James terrace is right next to the stadium and restricts a new East stand, and a larger Corner section. Was hoping you would give us some insight. Agree grade 1 Leazes Terrace will need to be kept but I don't see any compelling reason why St James terrace is a Grade 2. Also Leazes Terrace could be bought and converted to luxury fan zone or hotel.

The past owner said in early ownership the expansion would cost them some 40mil and he could not fill the stadia. Two edged sword.. owner limiting reinvestment and thus perpetuating less reasons to buy a ticket.

When they talk about 65k being enough they totally neglect to factor the under 20 year old market that would flock to safe standing and form the basis of the fan base going forward .. the groups of lads in their 20’s and younger was always the core of the mad sections of the ground and the atmosphere that came with it .. we need a 70k plus stadium IF we are to give a foot on the ladder to this vital demographic. By the way, once you realise that Si is the image of Peter Sutcliffe looking into the back of a shiny spoon you can never un see it.

Excellent pod all. Very interesting. My tuppence for a new ground, in that word; new. With that could offer a shed load more commercial opportunities (thinking of future wedge for us), and selfishly as a disabled fan better accessibility in a word too. E.g. I was at the Emirates for that 7-3 which was sad of course, but. I found was it offered in simple things like access, and the bogs class. Toilet facilities way way better than the Leazes, where I sit anyway. That shows the age of SJP that I do love BTW!

All these people saying we need 80k are living in dream land. 4/5 years ago Ashley had to give 10k away for free. We need to accept our core fan base is 40/50k. Success will bring another 15k max. So something around 65k is fine which can be achieved with expansion.

If you develop St James’s Park get ready for loads of current ST holders locked oot for a substantial time while Gallowgate gets redeveloped. Will this affect wor team? Also to add an extra what 8/10,000 seats and maybe only 6,000 cos the rest goes to corporate. It will take at least 2 years, it’s a mega project…maybe £300 million. And that’s not even starting on the nightmare East Stand? Which is a conundrum😮 Leazes Park new 80,000 seater…Booomb, sod the students😂move Leazes to where St. James’s is and it will look beautiful 😍

If you watch the blogs Eddy from Tyneside life posted a couple of months ago then there was only ever one option from the outset which was to stay. Arena site for instance was never big enough so never suitable. Eddy’s videos were better than our local journalists. Personally glad we are staying and we only need 60-65k capacity.
@davidarthur6200

Arena Site - shout to Eddie Hope (Tyneside Life) who’s done an excellent video on this potential site. Basically not big enough plus it’s adjacent to a Heliport and owner isn’t for selling. So you can cross that option off the list for starters.

Lets face it, we just need a new stadium. Commercial opportunities and stadium capacity are needed that cant be gained at SJP. If you have a season ticket you wont want to move stadiums but not everyone can get tickets for games. If we want to catch up to the bigger teams we need to move.

Extend the Gallowgate as a wrap around like Liverpool did and like we did with the Milburn, move East Stand season ticket holders into the extension and build a newEast Stand (the current one is 70s brutalist and is dog ugly). See if we can move Leazes Terrace towards Richardson Road brick by brick losing the tennis courts. If not,build as much capacity as planning allows into the East Stand. We need a design that keeps the noise in the stadium insted of letting it drift out over the East Dtand - then we'll frighten the living sh!t out of the southerners!😂

Here's my mad solution, firstly using the Leazes park area, we can build an equivalent sized park area somewhere else in the city. But create a second stadium which would host the men's team when built & keep St James' for the ladies team. Whenever we expend either, both side can share one stadium. I would encourage PIF to build a whole complex, infrastructure , transport links, hotels, even airport with Sauida air international routes. Establish yourselves as the big boys. I've also thought as long trips for the team to Southampton/ Bournemouth is not ideal for the players, to have some sort of second base for the team further south to stay & train to improve away performances

The capacity isn’t the most important element really, though it does need to be bigger. It’s the facilities and general quality of the venue which holds it back. spurs stadium is ‘only’ 62k and it’s viewed as one of the best in the world.

@ilcorvo9559 it is the capacity or lack of it, that stadium would sell out 100k easy week in week out. Obviously architecturally it would be quality with the investment we have on tap. It just needs a bold move.

Can understand local fans wanting priority to an extent, but sick of hearing about international fans. There is internationsl fans like myself travelling over from ireland years through relegations etc. costs alot to do it. Spend money on hotels,food and drink in the city. As passionate as any Newcastle fan and live and breath the club. Unfortunately irs the same for us trying to get tickets in ballots. The poxy 3rd party sires are the problem getting their hands on loads of tickets and ripping fans off . Club need to clamp down om these
