Today we're gonna be speculating on the origins of how Simon Petrikov became The Winter King in the alternate reality. We'll be going over Marceline, how she possibly died, how Simon could have gone about conquering the crown, his connection to Princess Bubblegum, the difference of this reality compared to the original all in the span of about 5 minutes. I think that marceline still lived to adult hood in that timeline cause of the axe. Hunson abadeer said marceline turn the family axe into a guitar and she wouldn't have gotten that axe until Simon brought back hunson.

Most likely but she certainly must’ve died probably while fighting the Vampires and Simon would’ve remembered that cause he was under the Empress’s influence

@@ironicweeb4111I honestly think that Marceline figured out about Ice King's plan and tried to stop him but didn't go full out due to her memories of Simon but Ice King had no memories of him as Simon and lil Marcy, so he wouldn't have held back. And only when he got his memories and sanity back did he realise what he's done and tried to make a ice Marceline in the form he best remembered her.

Something i'll never stop pointing out is that Prismo pointed out that a lot of universes are created as a result of his wishes, and how he sometimes likes to "give sick twists" with people's wishes kind of like a "monkey's paw" so it could've perfectly been the Ice King (or a loved one like Marceline) wishing for Simon's madness to go away but Prismo doing a "Monkey's paw twist" and going "okay granted, but that madness is going to someone else" and thus resulting in a brand new universe for Prismo to take care of

Only issue is that said person who made the wish would be transported to that universe. So I wouldn’t be sure if it’s Marcy or princess bubblegum, maybe Betty I wouldn’t be surprised if she had the power to travel through dimensions as she pleases.

That's a really fair point, tho i'm thinking about the Litch's wish. He wished for ending all life, then he got "teleported" to that universe, but then Finn wished for the litch to never exist, so HE got "teleported" and then the litch's witch was "changed" (but the universe still exists, with the "original" litch still in it) but the litch is still present in all 3 universes, so maybe the wishes also makes a copy of the individual who makes the wish, so that they can exist in both universes (OG and the one created by the wish)

Lich made his wish, he got transported to the dead universe, we know he never left, INSTEAD, Jake's wish made a sort of clone of the OG, this goes the same with Finn, so the OOO we have currently is just a complete copy of one without the lich's wish with the only original being jake... which is kind of dark if you think about it, though it should make sense why Finn should have another wish, given its technically a different Finn, one who of which didn't make a wish. (but, I guess Prismo has his rules ig)

@@TheKeppler22 also, the lich didn't really 'exsist' per se or was teleported, it was that the lich is a reincarnation of evil, and that cycle was stopped for a time, only for Finn to screw it all up and create a new lich.

I think Ice King inadvertently cast his insanity on PB, but intentionally kept the spell on her. As Simon says "He did it for 100 years". That implies that it was an ongoing thing he had to do. And Ice King never really considered himself insane, insane people rarely do. As for Marcy, I think maybe she just never gained immortality, and once Simon became sane and found out about Marcy having died centuries ago, decided to recreate her, or attempt to reanimate her in some way. It's still crazy that the Winter King timeline isn't even the darkest one. It just gets far darker the more the series progresses. Dead world was insanely heartbreaking, as B-Mo had a childish view of it, almost to protect themselves from the harsh reality that everyone they knew was dead.

@Adam-326 Nah, it's very much a child psychology thing. Look up Sesame Street Mr. Hooper death. They explain to big bird, who I think canonically is like 5, that Mr. Hooper died. He just doesn't get it. Children aren't really equipped to handle death in the same way an adult is. Normally this would be solved by having it explained by an adult, but B-Mo is alone.

It's also possible that Princess Bubblegum tried helping Simon and caused herself to go mad, and then Simon kept it that way. I mean, she has tried helping Simon fix his crown before, so maybe iceking had tried fixing it, failed, and then Princess Bubblegum tried and made herself go crazy and Simon left it that way.

Or maybe this ice king didn’t have a relationship Betty, so his motivation when he was corrupted by the crown wasn’t capturing princesses but some other thing.

I remember in the episode WK said Simon could make a ice version of Betty once he got the crown but laughed it off saying that would be weird probably to deflect that he did the exact same thing with Marceline

there is a theory that in this alternate universe, simon still loved betty. but the obsession over having a partner manifested in the madness-part of the ice king. the winter king regained his sanity, but not his personality. he is still under the influence of the crown and isn´t fully simon. the lover-obsession got projected onto the candy queen with the rest of the madness. as portrayed in her obsession over the winterking

Yep. How I see it is that he went even more crazy than our Simon, so much that he looped back into "sanity". I believe the spell was intentional but the action it caused wasn't, it probably was one of Ice King's last attempts at getting at PB, the only "bond" he had left (something that'd reinforce his obsession) the spell was probably trying to make her like him the same way he did with her, once he realized the real effect and that he could have everything he wanted it was clear as day. A kingdom full of servants, PB's intellect and empiric research about magic, ice versions of the people he once cared about (with that being the solution to everything, just make fake Ice People to cope, he even tells Simon to make an Ice Betty), AND the utter and boundless "love" of the now crazed Candy Queen. You can see he's been kidnapped hundreds of times but he shrugs it off as if it were nothing, he definitely enjoys the power dynamic they have going on and enjoys being the center someone else's world, even if that made them mad. There were no heroes in this universe for whatever reason (probably due to Marceline's absence) so he made up a couple of them to maintain the status quo and make sure someone would rescue him. Fionna coming in to be the real love interest/guardian would've completed his fantasy of escapism, and also it would've perfectly mimicked the original situation Ice King had with PB and Finn, just the other way around. He understands his situation, this is why he constantly reinforce the Candy Queen *CANNOT* be saved and things must remain as they are, all the more shady. My theory was that if he could actually make up that duplicate and it wasn't a fluke, then that crown's curse would've also been casted to PB, probably doubling her burden

I disagree with you about Winter King not getting as close with Betty: I think the reason why Ice King is so obsessed with Princesses is because of the loss of Betty, Simons 'Princess'. So when Simon projected his madness on PB I believe the spell considered his love for her part of it and projected it on PB, Which is why she's obsessed with Winter King

I kind of agree. He didn’t seem to have any affection when mentioning her, suggesting to make an ice replica of her. I think when he transferred the madness he didn’t have his original personality. Simon in his right mind wouldn’t doom another to madness if it meant curing him of his own.

I always find the, “Ice King Killed Marcy,” theory’s hard to believe for the sole reason of Ice King being too out of it mentally to come up with a madness transfer spell on his own, that, and he never killed anyone in the OG series, just put them on magical ice. So Marcy wouldn’t be dead, just frozen somewhere.

More likely it was PB trying to investigate why the Ice King was so crazy and had what happened between Magic man and Betty occur between PB and Ice King. Once the new “Winter King” awoke, no way was he going to lose his lucidity after 800-900 years being already stolen from him.

@@LordDaret That makes sense for how it happened, but him being sane AND killing Marcy makes even less sense. Though I can see him continuing the crazy transfer since he’d basically been forced into a state of eternal madness for millennia on end.. No one would want to go back.. That and Winter King still seems to be a little bonkers, just with his intelligence in tact.

@@JinxeBlaqwhat I see is that together with his insanity he lost his empathy. He might be helpful to Simon, Fiona and Cake, but the way he talks abt replacing ppl with iceversions... how he understands amorality only on an intellectual level leads me to believe he also lost his empathy. Reason for that would be that if he still had his empathy he would slip back into depression/madness. If he would care abt what he did to PB, the candykingdom or betty it would eat him up.

I keep getting more and more impressed with this series the more it unfolds: the story and lore, the variety of new and old characters, the music, and especially the animation! I know David Zaslav doesn't like animation much, but he'd be pretty stupid not to greenlight a second season (if it's set up for one)

The unintentional casting of the spell makes alot of sense. I can at least think of 2 cases where ice king accidentally caused something to happen that was way more powerful then he knew he could do, or it just backfired in a weird way. The fact that ice marcy has a guitar axe means it was at least post teen marcy after her dad left it and before she started killing vampires. Maybe simon chose to make child marcy because that was before he traumatized her by going mad?

He had 500 years to adapt to and learn from his new magical environment. Remember when Betty got too Ooo, she became a very competent, tho insane, magic user in a very short period of time. The same could be said for this version of Simon.

@@dragonslayer2545I just think humans in Ooo are OP, Finn is the greatest hero of Ooo and he began the show as a normal guy, Betty and Simon are smart no doubt but they understood the most powerful magical spells that no one before them did and most likely they are not the smartest humans

@@bencekiss6060 The modern humans on the Islands had tech that outmatched Bubblegum's. So yeah, in terms of overall Iq, humans got it. Simon and Betty are a bit different given that they're from the past and aren't fully up to date with the rest of the humans. In full honesty, I'm surprised PB didn't try to sabotage the humans like she did with the Fire kingdom because she saw them as a threat.

I also realized something.... We never DID see what the other past wearers of the crown looked like when they wore it EXCEPT for OG Gunther. Considering what we know of the original wish, the crown was supposed to make the wearer BECOME evergreen. For OG Gunther his eyes ALSO changed, with darkened outline around them. So it's possible that Simon really IS more powerful than he thinks, if his eyes never changed after 1000 years of it's curse.

I like to think that Winter King is the embodiment of the crown without the madness that came with it. WK did have a Marcy but lost her when she was young. Winter King did have a relationship with Betty, but was given away to PB and left as a past memory from his mind. Winter King could have made the spell in s5 episode 48 called Betty, but he didn't had marcy and he wanted to transfer his madness to PB. But the spell didn't worked as planned and trapped Simon deep in the crown and gave his obsession of his "princess" to PB, leaving only the crown. The funny part of it is that the crown was originally a wishing crown that allows the wearer to wish for their truest desire.The crown grew in power with its wishing magic to gain new abilities such as making life grow such as the pine scented trees, gave sentient life to his snow people instead of being mindless, and give Fionnas phone battery with the ability to communicate while traveling in other realities because that how Guther, assistant of the creator of the crown ( Urgence Evergreen), saw his master: The smartest ice wizard that could do anything.

My theory is that the winter king might be the result of a wish by Betty, as the magic woman, for the Ice King to be sane. The consequence of the wish would be that it is not Simon, but a sane Ice King with the memories of Simon, and pulling the maddening effect from the crown to PB. This would lead Marcy to a paradox of who she would like to keep, and either ditching or fight WK and lose, ending with WK making an ice Marcy.

3:10 farmworld finn trapped people in ice to keep everyone together and protect them from the mushroom bomb, he also worked with the lich under the idea that he was saving the multiverse. He was still good at heart and wanted to protect people, he just went about it wrong. Similar to how simon kidnaps princess bubblegum because he called his girlfriend his princess. So it doesnt really twist who you are at heart, it just makes you enter a crazed state cause its a bunch of magic.

since most of the other worlds we've been to so far were caused by a wish, i just chose to assume that Ice King went to Prismo to help him stop being so sad (which is something we know he wanted after the horse-costume episode for example), but since there's a price for every wish like Prismo stated (the whole "if you wish to get a massage, who will give it to you? a random stranger?" speech), all his magic madness and sadness went to PB.

I'd say it was a combination of everything since there are truths to every lie I belive he didn't overcome the influence of the crown briefly however in am act of desperation he made the spell you mentioned and what not being semi crazy and sane at the same time to free himself using all the will power he could muster thus making pb the candy queen and him the winter king

The wish in the crown was to "make me like Evergreen" Evergreen was a brilliant scientific mind, as proven by the crown itself being an uncrackable mix of magic and technology. Remove the madness from the equation and you get to be a super genius, plus 100 years of being sane and Winterking could've learned quite a lot, especially if he stole any of the research documents PB would have in her lab.

I like The contrast between the places. Like candy hills and ice kingdom. Ice Marceline would symbolise the innocent little Marceline, which he misses a lot. He tries to keep her safe, that is why she may be trapped in the room.

There's also some theories floating around that say this universe is shaped by a Marceline wishing to Prismo that Simon didn't become crazy. Considering the monkey's paw trait of Prismo's wishes, it's very possible that it could be it

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Spell was an accident simply due to his track records of not having the best schemes, it was probably something like the Heart spell that he cast in Ricardio

I think it makes the most sense if he did it while de-powered by Bella Noche instead of contacting Betty, in fact that could be why he's more indifferent about Betty and calls her "The dead one" since if he never contacts Betty then she never comes to the future, dies during the Mushroom war, and Simon isn't left wondering for centuries what happened to her, wishing he could say goodbye. It would also make sense if Marcy died young because then she couldn't give Hambo to Simon to create the portal.

I actually think that something happened to that world’s Marcy that the Ice King witnessed, and “through sheer force of will” he managed to break through the labyrinth in his head and regained some of his sanity(keyword: some). He then created the spell, but still felt too out of it because of the Crown. Even when he became the Winter King, he felt more like a fusion in a way. He could’ve made Ice Marcy as a coping mechanism, keeping her in a safe place, in a Kingdom that would keep her safe from the dangers of the world. And to explain what I meant about the fusion bit and how he has some of his sanity back? Think about it, in the episode “What Have You Done?” Finn faked his death and the Ice King believed it and mourned him… only to immediately get over it. That could explain why he hasn’t though about Betty for a long time and calls her “the dead one.” Plus, his obsessive trait was partially passed down to PB when she became the Candy Queen, only worse since she tried to kill them. Even as Winter King, he asked Fiona to kiss him so that’s something to consider. So maybe instead of filling getting rid of his madness, he only managed to partially do it and ended up as the Winter King. And unlike Simon who was surprised to be free from the Crown after it was drained of its magic, Winter King has been in this partially controllable state for about 100 years, so most if not all of his memories would still be remembered unliked the ice King’s memories.

I saw a comic dub where the "Sheer force of will" was "Sheer murderous intent" where PB did something and got Marceline killed and Ice King got so mad he said "I'll kill you!" and it cuts to the winter king with Ice Marceline.

I still think that Winter King killed Marceline. It wouldn't make much sense for Ice Marceline to have the guitar axe if she died as a kid, since she didn't even have the guitar as a kid and, also, how would Winter King even get the guitar? It originally belonged to her father, because it's a family heirloom. He probably killed Marceline once she found out what Winter King was planning, and after he succeed in removing the insanity from the crown, realized what he'd done, and made an Ice Marceline to cope with killing her, but as a kid, when their relationship was at it's best, not as she was when he killed her, as that would just constantly remind him of what he'd done.

The thing that makes this theory hard to beleive is the fact that Ice King is WAAAAY too out of it to come up with this spell alone, or beat Marcy without her lacking heavily. And I doubt he’d even kill her. If anything he’d only freeze her if he thought she was trying to harm him, and she’d eternally live in ice, since she’d still be an immortal vampire.

@@JinxeBlaqthat's why I think he prolly froze her over and the curse he cast on PB wasn't something he was trying to do he was prolly trying to cast a spell that made he think she loved him or something, you know classic ice king shenanigans and it went wrong and turned everything to what we see now OOORRRR and this is a more crackpot theory. Since it's clear he didn't care for Betty much in this timeline he just didn't care about trying to find his "princess" so the ice king in this timeline is just purely evil and selfish with none of the buried need for love driving his actions like the ice king we're used to and the curse he caused on PB was purely out of evil spite. Maybe this ice kings motivations were different, perhaps it was born of jealousy due to no one liking him but everyone liking PB so he cursed her to being just as unlikable as him while he became the new center of attention. It would explain why winter king is so self absorbed

Ice King wasn't obsessed with Bonnie. He was searching for Betty, and Bonnie looked the most human. Deep down, it was Simon trying to find Betty, but Ice King is a distorted version of that as to why he kidnapped actual princesses. Betty is Simon's princess.

You know what I find interesting is that in the video at 4:44 when the winter king’s curse gets lifted and he starts aging insanely, is when he turns back into Simon with a gray piece of hair just like how the real Simon looks now so I’m curious if maybe in this timeline everything that happened in the normal adventure time happened here because Simon was able to age when Golb turned him back into himself and maybe this is showing us the future of adventure time almost as if Simon made a wish for him to still have his sanity which turned him into the winter king and just projected the insanity onto someone else. I’m not sure I definitely could be wrong but I guess we will see what happens.

I saw a really good comic where marcy died due to a mistake bubblegum made and his sadness and rage is what made him cast the spell at first.

The only issue would be the axe given that it was too her by Hunson Abadeer. I think that Marceline figured out about the Ice King's plan and tried to stop him but he fought back. Marceline wouldn't have fought has hard as Ice King due too her memories of Simon but Ice King had no nemories of him as Simon and lil Marcie. And when his plan succeeded, then he remembered what he did and recreated ice Marcie in the state he was most comfortable with. And despite the Ice King being crazy, people tend to forget how trully capable he was like when he made a invisibility spell or tried to make a love potion. I do think Ice King tried to make a bonding potion or something like that given that to make her love him. The one thing I don't understand is the reason for the Ice King's infatuation with princesses is because he lost his princess(Betty) so I don't know why he would go after Bubblegum or he did have true feelings for Betty but didn't realize it and Bubblegum just reminded him a lot about Betty.

I believe the bella noche incident occured sooner, allowing simon to be reverted. In this time line though, he is without marceline so there is no catalyst to find betty, so he used his time to construct a device to prolong his sanity, using the crown as a catalyst instead, and when the magic returned, the crown was commanded to send its madness onto princess bubblegum. if he had the time to build a time portal in our world, he probably had the time to find a dispersion spell for the crown.

Maybe the reason we see a young ice Marceline is because when the Ice King got his sanity back he only remembered Marceline when they were together. We see in the normal timeline that Simon eventually left Marceline when she was still pretty young, and if everything happend exactly the same way except for those 100 years then Simon leaving Marceline also must've happend. In 'I Remember You' we see that Ice King has a bunch of clippings with self written lyrics/songs on them in his beard, and amongst them is a picture of Marceline. So when Ice King regained his sanity and became the Winter King he probably saw that picture of Marceline and remembered his small time with her, and then made an ice version as maybe a way to make up for all the time they were seperated. "But if that's the case how can he not remember Betty then" I hear you all asking. Well first off Simon remembers Betty but Ice King does not, because Ice King never spent time with Betty, but both Simon and Ice King have spent time with Marceline, so they both would remember her. Second the Winter King isn't Simon, he is a sane Ice King, and like I said before the Ice King wouldn't remember Betty because he never spent any real time with her, and being sane wouldn't change that.

Well we know sorta. The effect playing over the crown is prismos, meaning a prismo wish was made to transfer the madness. There's a chance child marcy managed to find the time room anf made the wish, but Prismo, sometimes liking to throw monkey paw twists, gave the madness to Bubblegum, anc Simon didn't know that's what happened, as the universes are immediately madevto adjust. So marcy became Ice Marcy in that world.

I think it's likley marcy died as a child, in the next episode there's a version where Simon died before they met so it only makes sense for the reverse to be possible (or at least her dying after they met)

if all alternate universes are created by Prismos granted wishes doesn't that mean that a wish created this universe as well? someone could have wished for Simon to no longer be insane and Prismo may have made that possible by teaching ice king how to cast the spell.

When the crowns magic is nullified primos effect plays over it I think Betty or possibly even Marcy made a wish to get rid of the madness, but Prismo decided this would be a good time to throw in a monkey paw twist (he mentions he does that sometimes) with him deciding to give the madness to Bonnie

I know one theory I saw is that Bubblegum accidentally killed Marceline. Possibly in some kind of De-Vamping process like from Stakes. And that mistake is what drove Ice King to mirror the madness onto Bubblegum. The reason The Winter King might not remember Betty is because he's not a Simon Varient, he's an Ice King Varient(i know, potato potato). Ice King also didnt really remember Betty, only that he had his Princess. The biggest hole in this reading of the winter king(my comment not the video) is that Ice Marcy is little Marcy. My only explanation there is thats just how Simon/Ice King/Winter King views Marceline, as his little girl. I'd argue, like a loving and protective parent, Simon always sees Marceline as Little Marcy even as he understands and respects her independence and maturity.

Even before watching this, my theory is based on what we saw in his snow flashback. Where Simon wearing the crown and a young marcy were ambushed by the slime mutants.. Looks to be BEFORE she got sick, or in this timeless she NEVER got sick. Simon also wasn't afraid to wear the crown for some reason, maybe the mutants were more abundant. I also theorize this timeline is one caused by Magic Betty, specifically when she changed the ticket times. While not a prismo wish, I believe this DID create a new universe. Hence why WInter King didn't have a fondness for betty, she left before he could catch her. Which resulted in him thinking about things, and realized it was just a small crush that's all. Now back to the theory proper, I theorize that while trying to protect marcy during that ambush... He failed. But before she died, her FATHER managed to show up just in time to see simon trying to protect her... Deciding to give him the axe as a "Sorry I didn't arrive sooner to save her". Of course the grief caused Simon to fully turn into ice king, hence the more insane looking Ice King shown. His madness probably causing him to be careless during the ambush, and he blamed the death ON the madness itself.

I think the one key thing that distinguishes this world from the "main timeline" is the fact that the episode "Betty" (from the original AT series) never happened (AKA future Simon never opened up a portal to see Betty a thousand years in the past - because the portal opening wouldve happened when the Winter King was around, and he doesn't care about Betty). This means that Betty stayed with Simon when he first got the crown. Betty most likely died a normal human death, which allowed Simon to get closure rather than obsessing over her, which is why Winter King just calls her "the dead one". However based off what the Winter King says she would have most likely had to die before the Mushroom War. Not sure about Marceline in this timeline but I saw this theory earlier and though it was super interesting. This also means that this wish could have been Betty's or Marceline's wish: Betty: "I wish I could be with Simon forever" AKA she never would jump through the portal and she would die with him. Marceline: "I wish Simon was sane" AKA the winter king

So in the episode where ice kings crown lost its magic he briefly became simon and took the time to build a literal time machine to talk to betty once more, perhaps if he didnt have a betty, he took this time to figure out a method to stop his madness and settled on passing it to bubblegum.

If ice prince would have given her the axe then it would most likely be an ice version of it or some other icy guitar. And also why would she remake axe into guitar in the first place if there is no some part of her inside that became interested in music

Many theorize it has been a wish by Prismo. But there is another cosmic entity we are forgetting about; the Cosmic Owl. The Cosmic Owl can make dreams come true. All Ice Kings in the Multiverse dreamt they became sane at the same time, but since there is only one Cosmic Owl, it appeared in the dream of only one Ice King, giving him the idea to cast the spell that turned him sane.

Monkey's paw: controlling the crown meant being the kind of person who would project his madeness onto someone else, and that version of him didn't care what happened to Marcy or Betty.

Stupid question I know, but I was curious because I heard that the crown is a metaphor for mental illness or something, so hearing about projecting your problems onto others made me wonder how people do that in real life?

I think what might have happened with marcy was she found out what simon was gonna do to pb and trued to stop him unfortunately he killed her but missed her enough to make a ice copy however he probably didn't want to have to look at a copy of the traitor he remembered her as but instead the sweet little girl he remembered when they first met. Now the whole situation with PB is a tough one. I think at some point simon may have regained his sanity temporarily. maybe a situation where the crown lost it's magic or something interfered with the curse similar to the bel la noche ordeal. And in that moment simon tried to quickly think of a way to save himself from the crowns magic all while keeping the magic so he would stay alive hence he came up with the idea of using a spell to project his madness onto another or swapping his madness trait for PB' s intellectual prowess. Most likely the later. As i feel a trade off spell seems more achievable in this series than a spell to basically nerf the trope that makes magic users magic in the first place. But yeah, after that he proceeded to constantly up his magic and science game.

It should be noted that gunther, the original gunther dinosaur, saw evergreen as TWO main things. the first was a ranky old man who could fly off the handle at any short notice, over trivial aspects of his own flaws, just to be cruel. So that's the madness aspect, witht he crown being the crown and doubling down on all that. But is it possible that there's a SECOND underlying aspect to this? Arrogance, Narcicissm, the potential to draw out the more calculating characteristics we see evergreen exhibit. We know that Gunther still did admire Evergreen - likely for making notice of his base determination, and constant planning and scheming (of which he had explainde to him by Evergreen himself). So at the very least, the idea that Evergreen was this full of himself, constantly sure of his intelligence and smarts dude, could've translated into the crown maintaining a SECONDARY aspect of the " Ice King " persona Gunther internalized. Gunther FIRST internalized the madness, because he himself couldn't handle such a personality shift into something he percieved as so volatile and fundamnetally messed up, but BENEATH all that is a somewhat cunning, somewhat devious mentality that when combined with natural arrogance and self-assurance, results in narcicissm and what is best described as machiavellinism. SO, just maybe, basically even though the winter king REMOVED the Madness aspeczt of his crown, he DIDN'T remove the machiavellianism. So the arrogance, coupled with Simon's own intellectual mind, the overall narcicissm, could perhaps still be playing games on Simon. Though let's be real here the idea that this is a fundamentally warped version of Simon thanks to events prior to his full transformation is far more compelling.

When the spell in this episode was described, I immediately thought of Ricardio. He was born from a spell gone wrong cast by Ice King, who wanted control of Princess Bubblegum's heart. So there's precedent in the main timeline for Ice King casting spell's on Bubblegum that are intended to fundamentally change her in some way. My guess is here it was either a) something to make them think alike, or b) a 'walk a mile in each other's shoes' type deal. Either way it went wrong and resulted in PB getting all of Ice King's madness. I suppose it COULD have also given Simon her technical knowhow, but Simon is pretty technically proficient in the main timeline, and The Candy Queen still used tech as well. But regardless, Winter King Simon presumably understood how the spell went wrong but chose not to rectify it, which is what makes him a villain different from our Simon. I think Marcy did probably die in the post-apocalypse, which would have made a slightly different Ice King. Not completely different or even drastically different, but still. As for Betty, I think Ockham's Razor is applicable here. Simplest answer is she probably died in the Mushroom War. Prime Betty only survived that fate because of a spell Simon cast in the present of Ooo. Since that didn't happen in this timeline, she likely got scared away by Simon's madness, and before they could rectify things the war happened. Winter King not being sad about her death doesn't preclude the notion that their relationship was the same in this universe, I just think Winter King is delusional and repressed that part of his history.

But Simon accidentally killed Marceline. So after he created the device to transfer his madness to bubblegum. He decided to create an ice Marceline and lock her in her room so he doesn’t feel guilty

Not really sure Marce died while young as the Family Axe was not a Bass Guitar until Marceline got a hold of it and changed it. Going off that all events up until Ice King did the spell to become Winter King, aside from Betty being less important to this Simon, Simon had to leave Marceline with Hunson at that particular point. I think Winter King **did** do something to Marceline and made Ice Marce in a more innocent (and possibly less angry toward him) image.

The technical knowledge could come from the crown instead of being from Bubblegum. Remember that the original wish Gunther put into it was to be like Evergreen, a genius when it came to magic and technology. A major example being the crown itself, something that could stop the Catalyst Comet, or alter reality itself. Of course, most users wouldn't be able to use this due to the insanity the crown brought with it. As for the madness transfer, I say it could be an accidental spell by Ice King, possibly being an attempt to make Bubblegum madly in love with him like he is with her, however transfered all the love and madness by mistake, freeing him while imprisoning her.

I have a theory where each alternate universe is just the result of a wish (not really a theory but it's said in the show) anyway my theory is this universe was wished either by Marceline or Betty (not of the prime universe) maybe they wished that Simon could control the curse of the crown but not specifying how he would control it (Finn didn't specify about his wish about the Lich never existing, yes until that point the Lich didn't exist in farm world until the nuke blew up) this resulting in the transferring of the curses madness to PB

I think the idea that Simon cast the spell while the crown was temporarily out of magic is not as far fetched as one would think, I would even go as far as to say it is the most likely, considering that the last time that happend with bella noche the first thing simon did was to build an time machine based on the specifics in a book, that he himself and Betty wrote. PB built one herself a few episodes later, but jake calls her oout on it and said that simons was way better. That is not to say, that simon is a greater genius than PB, but he used magic and science in his invention, (compared to PB who actively hates magic) making it more effficient.

It is ironic when you think about the fact that Princess Bubblegum and Marcy could have actually helped betty fix the crown, if she only asked. Betty basically just tried to brute force the repairs, instead of what could have happened. Going to PB, using the VR equipment, then slowly trace the circuits. I do imagine the solution would have been as simple as having Gunther direct them to the OLDEST parts of the crown's mainframe. Since the wish would probably BE there, then just rewrite the wish in the crown once found to be similar but with the added "and keep my sanity".

Theory here, if they have the same crown from the winter king then all the madness from it was later not in it at all. This way Simon becomes the best of both worlds one where he is Ice King with the added benefits of Simon. However unlike the winter king keeps what was truly dear to him.

What makes me suspicious is that this Simon isn't just at his regular capacity. he has scientific knowledge, the same knowledge bubblegum is known for. Could it be the spell doesn't really deflect the madness but instead switches thier mental state? Think about it, Simon has immense scientific knowledge aswell the way his kingdom looks. I would like to point out its still possible the winter king WAS really close to betty, as the spell he used to regain his sanity was not completely restoring him back to simon. He merely put the MADNESS the crown gave him, meaning the weird and wacky impulses of the ice king, onto princess bubble gum. Thats why he still doesnt really identify as simon, but rather the winter king. He isnt simon in full control, he is ice king with a working mind able to fully utilize his powers rather than be a goofball. And one of those impulses we see that he redirected was the ice kings drive to kidnap princesses, as PB tried kidnapping him. To get rid of that problem he most likely cut it from the source, being the part of simon that wanted his "princess" back.

okay but imagine that Marceline *was* still alive and learned of his plans to direct the crown's madness onto Bonnie if she died trying to stop him, wouldn't he want to remember her in a more fond state, such as her child self, instead of the version of her he had to kill?
