After selling his sick mother's house, her son took her to a shack belonging to an ex-convict. And when the worthless son decided to check on her, he froze with horror.
#storiesfromthebox #cautionarytale #liveyourbestlife #sadstory #familystory #kindstory #sadlovestory #audiostory #amazingstory #lifestory
Mrs.Reilly was sitting in a chair, gazing out the window at the passing clouds. She was a short woman with deeply wrinkled skin that spoke of her long and full life. Her brown, clear eyes still sparkled with life. Mrs.Reilly's gray hair was neatly styled in curls.
"Why isn't Simon calling?" she said quietly, reaching out for the phone. Her movements were slow and careful, as if she feared breaking it. It was her birthday today, but her only son hadn't rushed to congratulate her!
"Maybe later?" Mrs.Reilly sighed, accustomed to the fact that her son was too busy with his own lives to pay attention to her.
"Well, that's enough! I am not going to mope anymore" she exclaimed. This day was truly special - she was turning 80 years old! On such an anniversary, it was literally a crime to give in to despondency and sadness.
Despite her advanced age and recent illness, Mrs.Reilly got up from her chair decisively and made her way to the kitchen, holding on to the wall for support. Walking was difficult due to the stiffness in her joints, but fueled by the anticipation of the feast, Mrs.Reilly briefly felt a surge of vigor and energy.
She decided to cook an apple pie, which was one of her son's favorite desserts. Soon, the appetizing aromas filled the house and then Mrs.Reilly began to set the table. The beautiful tablecloth took its place, and the silverware emerged from a hidden drawer.
Outside the window, the weather was gray, but the rooms of the almost empty house were filled with comfort and warmth. Most of the treats were for her son, Simon, who lived not far away in the same town. However, he didn't often find the time to visit his elderly mother.
Suddenly, there was the sound of the front door opening.
"Hello, are you home? "Of course, where would you go?" Simon called out and breathed in the aroma of the freshly cooked food with pleasure. Memories of his childhood in this house flooded back, making him slightly ashamed of his neglect. But only slightly.
"Hello, sonny," Mrs.Reilly said as she stepped out of the kitchen into the hallway. She tossed aside the towel she was using to wipe her hands and embraced her son. He awkwardly patted her on the back and then disentangled himself from the embrace, handing his mother a bouquet of flowers.
"How are you doing?" Simon muttered, taking off his jacket.
"Oh, I'm getting along," his mother replied, relieved that her closest person had not forgotten about her special day after all. Mrs.Reilly had so much to tell him and listen to stories about his life, but Simon hurried to the kitchen, not paying much attention to her.
"That's right, you must be tired from the journey and hungry," Mrs.Reilly said, unable to look at her only child objectively.
And Simon grew accustomed to his mother's nurturing and pampering. She paid for his expensive education, bought him cars, and provided him with money whenever he asked. Perhaps she hoped to receive his love in return, but eventually, she raised a narcissistic and idle individual. He never accomplished anything in life, although he was already 40 years old.
Simon was a real disappointment, but not to his mother.
"Come in, dear! The food is hot and fresh, just the way you like it!" Mrs.Reilly cooed, following behind her son.
"Oh, a whole feast," the man skeptically shook his head as he sat down at the table.
He had no idea how much effort it took for the 80-year-old woman to prepare the simple appetizers.
Despite everything, Mrs.Reilly felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for her son's visit. She was certain that Simon was simply hiding his feelings, as is typical of boys, and deep down she hoped that he appreciated her life experience and wisdom.
"Sonny, taste your favorite pie!" she smiled, putting her arm around her long-awaited guest's shoulders.
"Sure, I'll try it," Simon grumbled.
Mrs.Reilly ignored his displeasure and sat down on a chair next to him, mesmerized as she watched her son handle the fork. It had been a long time since she had seen someone eat her cooking with such enthusiasm.
"So is it good?" she asked.
"Uh-huh."
Every moment he spent with her felt precious to her. "How are you doing? Is everything alright?" she asked.

OMG, I am sobbing. When the good Doctor took Brian back home and Mrs. Reilly had died; the letter just had me heartbroken. Two beautiful souls who needed each other were just meant to have found each other, all because of a scum bag son and a totally useless ex- fiancé. Simon, the most inhumane piece of garbage got his Karma in spades. AND finally beautiful Anna and Brian, whose life finally turned out near perfect. God Bless you, the narrator. You are the only one I really enjoy listening too.

Well written and excellently narrated as usual but, for me, the sadness and injustice is almost overwhelming. Mrs. Reilly deserved much better in her old age and thanks to Brian she received a modicum of happiness in her final days. As for Simon, it would have been nice to learn that he paid a hefty price for his mistreatment of his mother.

The best of families could end up with a Simon and the worst of families could end up with a Brian, because as you said, they all have a choice. I saw one short story (true or not) 2 brothers who grew up with an alcoholic Dad. The one son grew up to be a successful businessman who doesn't drink and the other son grew up to be an alcoholic like his Dad. When both were asked why do you think you are where you are in life, they both responded "I watched Dad". However, one watched and just followed that path, the easy one, the other watched and decided he didn't want to be anything like dad. It's a choice.

I moved to Greece about 20 years ago, one of the first stories I heard that I've never forgotten is about an elderly woman, whose son lived in the US for many years. I guess it's when her husband died or shortly after he came and she was told the intention was for him to take her back to the US with him. He sold her house, land anything she had, packed belongings and when all was done they went to airport. Only thing is he took off and left her at airport. I have no idea how many hours passed before she realized and spoke to a security guard. She ended up living with a neighbor. The son was a real scumbag. Honestly, I think it's wise not to give your children a POA too soon and they don't need to know all your belongings, have it written down but not easy access
@charlestilley2576
@charlestilley2576 6 ай бұрын
@@Surftouka Best not to give kids one's POA nor list of important belongings. Instead, wear a medical bracelet with condition(s), if any and attorney's contact info & have a security order for no one to have access until will is read, all keys turned, & that ALL named beneficiaries (minimum) are there, or postpone until all shows. This way, if there's an upset, where a non-family member who has cared for the person (usually for years) gets all, the situation can be controlled easily. This person may be also living in the home like married, and both are taking care of one another, or a dear friend. Anyone whom desired (when not married), unless a prenup is in place. Kind of like this story, when a close neighbor of mine died, her caretaker of around a dozen years got the property, home, cars & all contents thereof. Her children received $1 each & no more, not allowed to access family photos, artwork, nor clothes left in former bedrooms. Goodwill picked up everything she didn't want, including lots of clothing not of her size, the 4-5 pieces of art sold for near $12,000 at an auction & she hid all family photos, except her entrusted friend. That's what happens when one's only friend is their caretaker, when the kids only comes by when they need this or that. Her husband warned her of this years in advance & was told not to sign for anything, like a car or school loan (kids can get college loans). Nor even a hospital stay, for anyone, to say she was asked to drop off, not be responsible for their bill, paid or not. Although those of any age can be scammed, for the elderly, often seen as a burden or ATM machine, the rate is much higher. Please be prepared by creating a POA & will, and keep it updated when anything important changes (especially if gaining a lump sum of cash/property or remarrying). Beware of small "trusts" to grandchildren & don't place their parents name on it. So many children gets robbed of this money. In fact, it's best to give it to them at 100% value in a will & don't mention to parents. Finally, when grown kids visits, when they often initiate "what are you going to do with your assets when passing", don't answer. Other than this will be with everyone by my attorney when the time comes. That's all they need to know!😂😂😂😂😂

Beautiful story, family is more than blood and you never know when your family won’t be there for you. I’m lucky, my daughter and son are my life, they have their only families and lives but help me when they can and never forget me. ❤❤

How can that jerk of a son sell his mother's home? It's her home and not his. Shame on him and the doctor who purchased a house. Simon wasn't the legal owner.

You’re right, I know; but he probably tricked her into signing the documents - OR - the sleaze forged her signature. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” can be applied to bad scenarios too, unfortunately. EDIT: The doctor wasn’t guilty because he didn’t know anything about Brian’s deceptive scheme.

Simon told the doctor, his mom was dead. How was he suppose to know her son was a social path?

Well she asked for it. Grow a little backbone and tell the son to grow up. If she was so successful in her job she did have a backbone.

In the context of this story, the greedy son would have made sure that any will not benefitting him would disappear!
