@@donoi2k22 I don't think it's a mistake. It was meant to reflect her mental state at that time. She had to always be cheerful and steer Truman back to "the script", where he avoids anything spontaneous that might prompt him to leave. I think what's crazier than Truman being lied to his whole life is the fact that the rest of them agreed to throw their whole lives away being confined to an elaborate tv show set just to convince one guy that the set is the entire world (which is crazy enough all by itself). I mean, realistically the world would never advanced if we all just lived like robots. Like the cultures sacrificing virgins for the gods, one dude has to go "wait a minute, this just seems wrong. Who are we sacrificing them too?". No but really, I like to think that he didn't notice all of this until it clicked that some actors were worse than others and some things just didn't feel natural. Presumably he would watch movies and TV shows (all made for him or at least designed for him) and maybe the similarities from them and his own life is what gets him thinking.

Honestly that's probably my one issue with the movie. Realistically, Truman shouldn't think what they're doing is weird because he's been around it all of his life. To him, it should've been normal. Still one of my all time favorite movies but that part always kinda bugged me.
@nyongtory4e

Yeah but the Truman show probably wasnt as huge when it began and Truman was just a baby. Years and years went by, started to get more popularity, they expanded the studio without him noticing and started to make the actors make more and more product placements, because the show was becoming so popular, they xouldnt just show them, they had to get the actors involved. I imagine it also gave the audience watching more of a thrill went they decided to buy. A marketing technique. So he probably started to find it a little weird how people around him started to try so hard to "hype up" stuff, but he didnt even consider he was living in a fake world so he ignored it UNTIL he started having suspicions, and then everything was not falling into place in his eyes, amd started noticing all the nuances and weirdness around him, paying attention to them. We have a saying in spanish that goes "No hay mas ciego que el que no quiere ver" which means "There's no one blinder than the one whom does not wishes to see" Thats who Truman was until he started wishing to know the truth.

The reason the Truman Show is such a huge hit is because Truman acts genuinely like a human, so it'd be weird to make him grow up thinking talking like that is the norm, it'd put the audience off. So it makes sense that he'd be weirded out by it.
@SaneGhoul
@SaneGhoul 2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if it would be similar to how things are now. Advertising increasingly getting into things, not just commercial breaks between shows, but within shows themselves. KZfaqrs are putting ads and taking sponsors more and more. Give a company enough time, it'll probably grow to a point where it feels the need to increase advertising to satisfy investors or whatever. Maybe the ads frequency was lower when Truman was still growing up. Maybe advertising culture and other shows and channels didn't do much advertising until recently in their world.

I think it's because it feels like you're being talked down to, you're being told about something with all the possible disadvantages being withheld, so it's as if you're stupid for not already owning said product. In real life when we recommend things to each other we're very casual, but ads always have to be upfront and in your face so they can be easily noticeable, and that kind of exaggeration just comes across as needy. People would probably be more okay with ads if they were more upfront and honest, but honesty doesn't get you anywhere in business.

It's a small town. Her being in advertising would mean travel. How is she working on advertising campaigns for far off products when they want Truman to stay in that small town? Her being a local nurse allows her to stay situated in one spot. It could just be one of her weird quirks; she likes buying new things and showing it to Truman. If they developed that side of her personality, he just learns to accept it especially if everyone kinda does it. The show literally controls the lives of everyone in that town, they can easily alter what Truman view as normal over years.

Imagine if this film was a mystery. Imagine if you got to witness the movie through Trumans perspective. Every time people acted strange it would just fill your mind with questions. Every time some one tried advertising it would compel you even more wanting so bad to know whats going on. The ending would be so good and such a great reveal. This movie was good but it could have been perfect imo.

You've missed the first part of the basement scene when she comes down the stair. It's all about product placememt. Remember, they're selling what the actors are wearing as well, so you get a close-up of her shoes as she goes down the stairs, and then she gets into this "model position" to demonstrate her dress, her watch, etc. etc. It's a neat detail.

For me it's these exact moments that push Truman show from a tragic comedy into borderline psychological horror. The idea that your every moment and the people around you all exist for the sake of selling product and making profit, that you, your closest friends, and family are all essentially commercials and props and nothing more. That your freedom is just an illusion people maintain so long as its profitable.
