Sanders plan literally did not make any sense. When it comes to energy policy Sanders is just as clueless as trump.... Why? 1. He would give PMAs control over all solar, wind and geothermal assets in this country, despite the fact that PMAs have only ever owned federal hydroelectric power and that’s all they are legally able to control from a generative position. 2. His policy had PMAs generating $4 trillion in profit with the sale of electricty, even though the federal charter which created PMA legally requires them to sell electricity at the lowest market price possible. 3. He wanted to install a new PMA in the Eastern interconnection to create new wholesale markets. Problem is these markets already exist and they are managed by ISOs, TSOs and RTOs which legally outrank PMAs. Furthermore these markets exist in both the USA and Canada, and PMAs do not have international authority, so it would be entirely impractical to remove the existing markets and give PMAs control of them. 4. His energy plan doesn’t even recognize the existence of the primary federal agencies in charge of the energy industry such as FERC - Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and ERCOT - Electricity Reliability Commission of Texas. These two agencies manage the entire US Electrical grid, which he is planning to make major changes to - there is NO SCENARIO where any plan would ever get implemented without the sign offs by these agencies.... 5. His plans would give unilateral ownership of all energy assets to PMAs, Bureau of Reclamation and TVA. This doesn’t make any sense. First of all PMAs nor BC have ever in their history managed solar, wind or geothermal assets, and these assets make up less than 3% of TVAs portfolio. So why on earth would you remove ownership of assets from public and private utilities that currently manage 98% of the industry? It’s unbelievable to me that a politician with 40+ years of experience is completely clueless of the Federal Management Framework for the Energy Industry.
