The main benefit of a face mask is that it stops you passing on your germs, to other people. It doesn't take much of a mask to do that quite effectively, but it works better if everyone you meet is wearing one, so they don't pass their germs to you. People do start spreading the virus before they even know they're ill, so we should all be wearing one, every time we go outdoors. Shop workers are in contact with hundreds of people a day - so they need to be wearing proper PPE masks, like nurses need to wear, to stop them getting infected by customers who don't wear one, then spreading it to a lot more people. People in the Czech republic are just making their own, and handing out more to others. They are maybe the only country in Europe that actually has the virus under control. Presumably, Trump plans to meet with all leaders of foreign powers, and wipe them all out with his breath. I could see how that might work. #masks4all

I'm an RN and I remember reading of all the women who mobilized during the 1918 flu and were so proud to be helping by sewing ties onto 4x4 gauze to help "protect" doctors and nurses - only problem is that it had holes big enough to drive steam engines through! Some of the things people are wearing now are reminiscent of those! I cringed when I saw the most darling little knit animal masks for children for sale the other night which would give 0% protection to the children! So sad!

Let me try. Trump is always tired of winning. He claimed the stock market is his great work,the chosen one. Lockdown or being concerned about the virus would course economic collapse(depression). economic collapse would mean that trump cant be tired of winning anymore or be voted as next president. What's trump's choice? Save lives and lock down the whole country, this may cause disruption in the market. the alternative is to ignore the virus and downplay it's severity and hope nobody notices which in turn would make the stock market skyrocket. A good stock market would mean re-election for trump. Lives or re-election? life is tough sometime ....but you are right, i can't explain his incompetence but i least i tried.

Vincent Sumner yes there are red states that don’t cooperate but the title alone tells you the job. The president’s job is to preside over the daily operations of the states but the responsibility of governing the daily operations is the governor. Cuomo was told when the last health scare occurred that of a pandemic occurs in the future, NY will not be prepared. As usual, money went elsewhere & now where in the position were in. The governor has sole authority on the number of beds & medical devices hospitals receive within their state. The president cannot possibly govern every state to the point on running daily operations. That’s why he’s not a king. He has limits to his power. Not ever federal official can automatically veto a state’s laws. I realize that Cuomo could not possibly foresee a pandemic of this magnitude however for him to snap his fingers & expect everything from the federal government shows his inadequacy as a governor. I personally go to Costco & by personal items all the time for emergencies. Fortunately right before the shutdown was announced, I had coincidentally visited Costco & purchased toilet paper. I wait til my supply is down to about 50% & then buy the next package. I don’t wait u til I’m down to my last roll & then cry foul. People should be doing this with all essentials-flashlights, batteries, canned foods, etc. Cuomo literally did the equivalent of this & is now crying foul. Sorry doesn’t work that way.
