UK Defence Secretary John Healey has diplomatically described comments by Donald Trump's vice-presidential pick as "controversial".
JD Vance said last week that Britain under Labour could be the first "truly Islamist" country to have nuclear weapons.
Mr Healy also rejected the position taken by Trump's running mate on Ukraine - Mr Vance says he is not concerned about what is happening in Kyiv's war with Russia.

@darthpepe2994 WRONG - I live in a part of London that was White Working Class when I grew up there 60 years ago. It is now largely afro-carribean with some Muslim and a large Nigerian contingent. In the time since I have been back there have been 3 murders within a half mile radius of my home and one was just 20o yards away. No I'm not some posh git I am a saath london lad who has seen machette and tomahawk fights in the local boozers and recognise a lot of the characters that so populated the likes of Minder and The Sweeney.
