We had a governor named Gray Davis... He was highly qualified, held many public offices prior to being governor, probably the most qualified politician in California at the time... He was recalled because he withheld from the citizens that the deficit was bigger than anyone knew! As a result we ended up with Arnold Swartzenegger as governor in what amounted to a soft coup!!! Most disastrous period in California state politics!!! One which we no longer speak of........
