Former US president Donald Trump's reported phone call with Saudi Arabia's Crown prince Mohammed bin Salman has triggered speculation. While the content of the conversation is yet to be disclosed, Trump and MBS shared extremely close relations during the last US administration. The Trump family has multiple business dealings with the Saudi royal family, including a $2 billion investment by the kingdom's sovereign fund in Jared Kushner's firm. Trump's golf courses had also hosted multiple LIV golf tournaments backed by Riyadh. That's odd: queen Elizabeth seemed delighted by his first visit, and if she were not at rest would perhaps be looking forward to another Trump visit in 2025. Merkel may have been a bit cold, but other than that, European leaders seemed to like him - after they got over the shock of actually paying their fair share of the nato bill for the first time ever.
