Every trumpet player I have played this with has fracked at least one note in this solo, its a super hard solo. Its nice to see professionals frack this also.

Look up the Boston pops Covid version of this! Thomas Rolfs is the trumpet player playing it and it looks like he’s not even trying. He was my mom’s trumpet teacher at college before he went to play for John Williams

It's in the description. Tim Morrison with Boston Pops, whom the piece was originally commissioned to. If you've heard their recording you recognise his solo sound as well

So he's playing a part that says trumpet in b flat but he's fingering the notes as written on a c trumpet. So, on a b flat trumpet the highest note would be written as a d.

I've always wondered if this way played at the end of a long concert, since the player here seems to struggle a bit and some of the notes aren't that clean, which is very untypical for professional trumpet players of his caliber.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess you are not a trumpet player, or at least not a pro. There was most likely a lot of very physical, difficult playing that day before Tim even got to this solo. He still sounds very, very good.

I think he played the solo great and what's more important - with expression that moves your heart. The first and most important job of the musician. Once Reinhold Friedrich told me that he doesn't like perfect playing if it can not move him. He would prefer less accurate player but who can express more. It doesn't matter if you play without mistakes if there is no music in your playing. Computers play without mistakes but no one would go and listen to a computer playing perfectly trumpet. And for Tim he plays that solo so great. His timbre is astonishing and brings out the right character for the solo.

Its a very hard solo to begin with. The sustained in the high tessatura tires even professionals out. He sounds good, but yeah

not a perfect performance, but it creates the right emotion... a bit sharp in some notes, and some missed notes... the pressure to play this with the legendary composer conducting must be incredible...
