LETS GET IT!!! So in this video we find out whether Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer is actually a good additive to quiet down your engine. In this particular video I use my 2004 Ford F150 with a 5.4 engine with 130K miles. Something to note is that I as well did a regular oil change with the Stabilizer, so you be the judge on whether this is a good product for you. Hope you all enjoy, and find this video helpful. My 2018 f150 5.0 straight off the dealer lot had the infamous coyote tick. Which Ford says is normal by the way. I started using this synthetic Lucas stabilizer from day 1 and it 100% removed every bit of the tick. My engine sounds perfect now. Believe the hype! It works very well. Its truly remarkable. I laughed when I started my engine after putting this stuff in. Zero ticking. ZERO!!

Do you use 1 quart of Lucas and 8 quarts oil? Or do you use 2 quarts for that capacity. Thinking of adding this as my 18 5.0 is starting to make noise during cold startup. Almost like a dry start for the first 5 seconds
@thegamehud8214
@thegamehud8214 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanbrown1141 exactly, i personally use only 1 qt of the lucas. obviously it thickens the oil too so you dont want to thicken it too much. ive found using it for over 50k now that its the perfect ratio. the thicker the oil the less gas mileage you get. a little bit of advice also, use 5w30. 5w20 is too thin for the coyote engine.

My f250 5.4l likes thicker oil. No head leak. No rattle. I go 10w40 with 1/4 bottle. Just to add some film to dip stick. Back up truck gets started monthly with 6 mo to 12 mo oil and filter change. It’s recommended to switch to 5w-30 because of the undersized oil pump in the 5.4. I do a flush every other oil change, I always use full synthetic, preferably amsoil, and an additive like Lucas or Restore. Also wix filters. I’m coming up on 300k miles on my 05 with the 5.4.

They were designed with 5w-30 in mind, then right before they began entering production CAFE came in and made them update their specs to 5w-20 back to 1996, got a 96 mustang that says 5w-30 on the oil cap, and 5w-20 on the factory spec sheet.

Old 'Geezer Gear Head' here. I own and drive an '02' E250, 3/4 ton extended van. It now had 335,000 miles on the original, untouched engine. It has a 5.4,,,,,,2 valve engine. This engine does have a factory remote engine oil cooler/factory tow package! It had 153,000 when I bought it. And, it was a feet vehicle. I t was only 6 yrs.old with all those miles. But, it was taken care of. Oh, at almost 80, I still do the oil changes and grease jobs. I use Mobil1 10/30 full synthetic. I do add the Lucas full synthetic additive. 7 qts. of oil is normal in this engine. And I do use the prescribed amount of MotorKote additive. My truck has NO ticks/bangs/knocks/timing chain noise/ or any other unusual sounds. Oh, its been across the country 4 times. BTW, the door tag called for 5/20 oil. That was the first thing that I changed, when it became my truck. Right to 10/30, full synthetic. That was Jan. 2008. Been drivin it ever since. Sorry for the long post. Happy Holidays. Ole Geezer Gear Head out.

Fun fact, the oil cap may say 5w-20, but these engines were initially designed for 5w-30, then the EPA had them update the specs to 5w-20 right before this engine was released. The later coyote was designed to be able to run anything from 5w-20 to 5w-50, with the thicker oils being meant for those who beat on their motor, the meaner you are the thicker the oil you should use on a coyote.

You should take your camera and when the truck is cool film the exhaust bolts and look at the video afterwards to check to see if there is any broken exhaust bolts or exhaust leaks. Plus check the exhaust flanges. Usually engines don't sound as noisy unless the is an exhaust leak.

This will help pump oil up into the top end helps pump up the lifters as well in like 4.7L engines or the 4.8L 5.3L this helps with them noisy lifters that are failing... personal experience.

I'll tell you the reason why your engine has a knocking noise and a dry start and if you don't get it fixed likely be what will be the death of your engine. It's the factory oil pump the 5.4 3 valve engine with the phasers and variable valve timing demands a certain volume of continuous oil pressure the factory oil pump after a hundred thousand miles just will not deliver. Continuing to run the truck as it is will cause premature wear to the camshaft timing chains and phasers as well as the roller followers. My 2006 F150 with the same engine currently has a 191000 miles and the reason why it has survived that long is because I replaced the factory 40 PSI oil pump with a melling 80 psi high performance oil pump. And switched my oil from 5W20 to 5W30 doing this alone while running quality motor oil can very well make your engine last up to 300,000 miles.

I've got the same result. 230k on a V6 engine designed for 5W30 oil. Has a slight knock up to 30 seconds after a cold start. I used the same synthetic oil stabilizer, thinking the same thing: not too thick. 5W30 oil is pretty thin as it is and good oil flow helps cool the engine too. At the first cold start afterwards, I feel it barely made a difference, maybe just slightly. I'll know more soon.

This stuff is just an oil thickener with no further additives. It might decrease the noise because of the higher viscosity, but no further additivation means that wear over time is increased. Just use a thicker already formulated oil like an xw50 or xw60, this decreases the noise but also decreases wear because of the addtives.

1 quart of Lucas oil stabilizer is not enough for 6 quarts of engine oil. At bare minimum the ratio should be 20% Lucas stabilizer to 5 quarts of engine oil. For maximum benefits you should use more than 20% Lucas on an older vehicle. My question is: if a truck takes a "light weight" oil like 5w30 or 5w20 won't this Lucas Oil Stabilizer create a thicker oil beyond the specs of the truck ?

My grand Marquis ticked a little bit as well nothing to worry about and FYI, you did your oil change wrong buddy. You’re supposed to start the motor and let it run for a few minutes to make sure the oil filter collects oil then you shut it down and you check your level of oil, most oil filters hold up to 1 quart of oil just my two cents you do what you want

I have run seafoam in the crankcase to get the deposits broken up and I have changed the pcv valve but it still consumes more than I would like. No blue smoke out the tail. Smooth starts still, no ticking. Just oil gets consumed for whatever reason. My new mechanic told me to try lucas oil stabilizer. Just looking for insight on my nissan versa 1.8

These motors were designed for 5w-30 and then cafe came in and made them use a thinner oil right before they were about to introduce the 3vs, made them backtrack everything back to 96 too, my 96 mustang oil cap says 5w-30 and factory spec sheet says 5w-20. You run 5w-30 synthetic in the 3v triton motors and they quiet up real fast and don't develop half the issues they're famous for if you stick to good brands and the factory interval (not factory oil though, it's kinda crap, just good enough that it won't wear it out before warranty expires.

@@Prestiged_peck You can run 5w-20 or 5w-30 20 in the winter and 30 in the summer in-between oil changes not much of a difference in oil weight
@Prestiged_peck
@Prestiged_peck 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wright10301973 there's no reason to switch h between those two weights based on temperature, ru hey both have the same cold weight, the engine should still always be able to get to operating temperature, which is the only place the hot weight (20 or 30) matters, and 30 is always going to be better at preventing wear than a 20. But when the oil is cold in the winter both of those should be the exact same viscosity, now if you're talking about going from 5w-30 in the winter to 10w-30 in the summer, that makes more sense, but is still not a good move since the 10w-30 can actually end up thinner above normal operating temperature, and will always take longer than 5w-30 in the same conditions to build proper oil pressure. And yes we're talking tenths of a second, but youd be very suprised how much wear can occur in a tenth of a second, and if each startup takes a tenth of a second, then 100 startups is 10 seconds, 1000 startups is 100 seconds, or a minute 40 without oil. Would you want to run your engine for almost 2 minutes with no oil? No? Exactly. Btw a 33% change in weight is actually quite a lot, that's more than enough to be the difference between a 50k mile failure and a 300k mile failure. (Have a close friend with an 06 5.4 3v, got it new, started putting 5w-30 in at 10k miles, and is now on 300k miles with ZERO engine work beyond basic maintenance (plugs, coils, fluids, and belts) runs 5-7000 miles every change, mobil 5w-30, and for the 2 initial oil changes it was mobil 5w-20.

However, if you use Lucas additives, or whatever your preferred brand is, as soon as the vehicle warranty expires, then you will undoubtedly enjoy more reliability than you would without the additional benefits of an additive like this one.
