You might not have the key way lined up correctly on the crank and fly wheel. Saying this because I had the same problem. The problem was my coil that goes to the plug. Bought a new one from big dog toys and solved my headache.

I fixed mine by taking out the key for the flywheel and just lining up the back edge of the pick up point on the flywheel with the electronic pick up while the piston is at top dead center and locked it down right there.

bro i have an 89 with the 310 and i had a similar problem i had to change CDI, NEW COIL,STATOR, AND CARB AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM

I had that issue with my 86 and I replaced the flywheel and it fix the problem. The flywheel has little magnets in it and if one lose or out of place it will not spark/or run

Having the same issue with my 87 will start and idle all day but will not run under a load and the tdc mark is off by half an inch

i would say change your stator to a stock one you will lose the +4 timing but i beat it will run right thats what i would do first

Please help me I’m having the same issue after a complete rebuild. It kicks back so hard think i might of tore my acl trying to kick it today. I had a Ricky stator and flywheel but my builder told me stock was better so I put it back. I noticed the flywheel making a noise when I shook it in my hand like something was broken inside of it. Would the fly wheel cause this problem? Please help I’m desperate

sam rosales broke woodruff key on your fly wheel will make it brake your leg.

My 88 ate the key up so the flywheel would slip on the crank .....

I have found the cure to all of thee problems. It lies in several things. To long to explain in an email. But if any one else is having these problems contact me through this forum and I can explain. While people think the aftermarket world stuff sucks, it works just fine, actually a little better depending on the unit. Once again you need to know how to make it work and time everything

If you have aftermarket check your the wires that plug into the other connections and make sure that they are colored coded correct. Sometimes from the factory in China they switch the wires backwards. This is a huge common problem, in Ricks stators, etc..... also you'll need a degree advanced timing plate if you run aftermarket stator, CDI or coil. The aftermarket world that I've seen will cause your bike to run advanced and without a advanced timing plate you'll never get the bike to time, thus causing backfire. I just put together my long 88 250r project and I am getting no spark I've tried 2 diffrent CDI's and ran tests on my coil and my stator the tests came good ohms checked my ground in the front put new wire on and I have checked the kill switch still no fire I am guessing it is the stator not close enough to the pickup coil can you tell me how to fix that at Aaron.ronnebaum@gmail.com
