Okay no but Auggie recognizing that Johnny is lonely and excitedly running to take his hand and include him, then proceed to validate him as his best friend for the rest of the day, made me almost burst into tears. The empathy kids possess is incredible.

THIS!! I have an autistic 5 year old son, I see so many similarities between him and Auggie. My son was always seen as the disruptive kid in class, but this year he got placed with a fantastic teacher. She encourages him to be his best self, and he's made astronomical progress this year. A good teacher can literally shape a child's future.

@caidalee1994
@caidalee1994 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, normally little kids are sat in chairs, given a piece of paper and a pencil to focus on, and told to stop wiggling at around this age. It’s not good for the kids at all, and many of us recognize it, but the current system is so ingrained that it’s hard to do anything else. Like this video shows, it’s not impossible, but it’s also difficult to make sure other systems teach the essentials of the society they’re growing up in as they grow, like paying taxes or cooking or math.

There’s a joke in our family that my brother and I are “free ranged kids” bc when we were toddlers in Texas we would run around everywhere naked (neglect on my moms end) and we used to go camping all the time when we grew up so being in nature is like a second home. I’m not versed in plants or anything but insects don’t bother me and I’m not afraid to jump in mud so I take that as a win. I’m that person that will put worms back in the dirt after a rainstorm and people get so confused… if bees or wasps get into the building I’ll safely bring them back outside. Love the video!

As a UK forest school practitioner this video brings me so so much joy. This type of education being recognized on this scale is so immensely important for it's growth. I have worked with children in multiple settings and I can 100% say that Forest School is the most magical and beneficial of all of them. The point in this video that FS is not accessible to everyone and can be so costly was incredible as well because it is the truth and it needs to change. Every single child (and teenager and adult I do Forest school with all ages!!) deserves an education to a standard this high.
