A better idea would be to set the custom recipe button to down Dpad button. Click to enter and click the same button to select. This video suggest 2 separate button which takes longer time and more finicky.

I want to do this but for some reason my white balance never saved for every recipe and I always have to edit it

There is a way to save your white balance in the recipe. It was a little bit of pain to do from what I remember but it is possible. I think you have start with your WB set to what you want before you go into customizing your presets.
